→ Check out this video showing you a comparison between GTA V vs GTA IV on PC. This one is shorter than the other ones I have made before. The way I'm comparing both of these games on this video is very different because I'm using the RockStar and Director Mode at it best to make a completely different video. I hope you like it and enjoy the video.
0:00 Vehicles:
GTA 5 has its improvements on the vehicles graphics, but GTA 4 is an old game to have high details on the vehicles.
1:51 Rain:
If I am not mistaken my PC runs GTA 5 perfectly therefore, GTA 4 runs perfectly too, but I counl't see any rain drops. ON GTA 5 you can see the rains drop however, even if you slow the time down it still drop at the same speed.
2:27 Water:
GTA 5, no doubt about it. GTA 5 water graphics has improved drasticly. Also, letting us swim down makes it more realistic.
3:23 Explosion:
Even though GTA 4 has some minor details when an explosion happens, we can't denied how realistic and amazing the explosions look on GTA 5. Some many small details that makes it more realistic.
3:59 Weapons Shots:
Not a lot have changed apart from the sounds of the shots and most importantly you can see the bullets coming out of the guns on GTA 5.
5:03 Vehicle Physics:
Same as the explosions. You can see so many details when crashing a vehicle anywhere. You can see the small pieces of windows being trown away. You can actually see some details on GTA 4, but they don't see as great as in GTA 5.
6:05 The Ambient:
You can see that in GTA 4 there are more traffic, making it look more realistic (without using mods). However, there is more sounds you can hear on GTA 5, the nature which makes you feel like if you are outside in real world.
6:55 The City:
For an old game the city in GTA 4 looks great, the atmosphere that makes it looks like the real New York. On the other side, GTA 5 has better graphics and a bigger world making it more realistic.

2004: GTA SanAndreas sucks, the story is just all about ghetto and the effects are so much worst than GTA Vicecity
2008: GTA 4 sucks, SanAndreas had so much more stuff like Jetpacks and airplanes.

This was a great comparison. It makes me realize the amount of detail put into both games, and GTA IV still looks great after nearly 8 years.

+Zack Wares Both games use the same physics engine. The physics in gta v are more refined then gta iv's physics.
Yeah the cars in GTA IV handle like the tires are made of butter and the suspension is made of sponge. And the pedestrians have so much ragdoll resistance they could flip over a bus.
2008 vs 2016,8 years later GTA IV still kicks ass.
I have the feeling that you're running GTA IV on low settings,I run GTA IV all on Ultra and it looks way better.

Keep in mind that GTA IV is horribly optimized for PC.
Can compare graphics all day, but in the end physics and gameplay in 4 were still and always will be better.

Gta sa had huge customisation options while gta 4 had zero except changing clothes no hairstyle change or vehicle modifications whatsoever .The only thing i did in gta 4 was doing missions after missions and it got repetitive quick. I just couldn't enjoy the free roam which plays a huge part in open world games.
Like I said, its all a matter of opinion, and what you personally like in a game.

+Rare Glue Correct. Note the San Andreas licence plate on the Infernus. GTA V is set in San Andreas, while GTA IV is set in Liberty City, otherwise known as Liberty City State or Liberty State.
+MrSupercar55 It wasnt the license plates. it was actually the logos on the top left and right corners. but i didnt know the little fact about liberty city being in liberty state. well, it makes sense as how new york city is in new york state.
abdullah benson Well, Rockstar were originally intending to call the location in which GTA IV is set Liberty State, but they didn't get time to create 3D models for everything outside Liberty City, so they just created the city and called it Liberty City. The fact that Liberty is a state is made apparent by Upstate Liberty. An area of Liberty City usually referred to simply as Upstate that is somewhat prominent in the old Liberty City north of Shoreside Vale (GTA III to GTA Liberty City Stories).

Most small things are done better on GTAIV also. Such as fist fighting, mini games, interactions with NPCs, etc. But GTAV has a lot more to do. Both excellent games

+Rosquillas 32 i driven multiple cars, so unless your car has some of the shittiest suspension in the world, its not quite as close to realistic as you think it would be, gta 5 is significantly closer to that.
***** in real life cars have some down force, especially supercars and sports cars, they would do a better job at sticking at the ground, and the handling in general is a lot better than gta 4.

Alright, Here's my take on the whole ordeal:
Vehicles: V (Higher res textures and smoother models with more polygons)
Rain: V (I love the fact that small puddles appear on the land when It's been raining)
Water: IV (I personally think the water in V is way too blue)
Explosion: IV (Shared wreckage)
Weapon Shots: V (Working parts)
Vehicle Physics: IV (V Cars feel arcade-y and take little to no damage when crashed when compared to IV)
The Ambient: V (A lot more people in movement, wildlife and random world events such as police pursuits)
The City: IV (In my opinion Los Santos became dull and boring quite quickly even though It's size)
This is coming from someone who's had plenty of experience with both games. And personally, I prefer IV.
But hey, Everyone's entitled to their own opinions, Feel free to respond with your thoughts :)

Berkay Yilmaz Yeah, one reason only. One reason that describes a lot of contents. Think about atmosphere, it doesn't only mean one thing. When I use the word atmosphere in the game I am describing the pedestrians, sound, traffics, etc.

Like, at first GTAIV is on the right side and GTAV is on the left, then after 10 seconds they switch between each other. Totally unconvenient.
+Crowmaster Is is not. That's only to show you the other side of the view. For example, if I want to show you the front of a crashed vehicle, I also want to show you the back to see their differences.
It seems to me we are speaking about kind of different things.
I think it would be more comfortable to percept this video if, say, GTA4 graphics was always on the left side of the screen, and GTA5 was always on the right side of the screen. It has nothing to do with wat part of crashed vehicle you want to display.
Because otherwise each time the frame changes i have to check what kind of gta I am looking at.

2:10 Yes but look at the rain from normally view. In normally view is rain in gta IV more realistic than in gta V. Vehicle physics and explosion in gta IV is better, too. But in grafics is gta V the best of course. And the cities are both beautiful.

+Jimmy Carter It's true, the driving mechanics in GTA 4 is harder which makes it more realistic. For example, when you try to turn a corner in GTA 4, it's heavier to turn that corner than in GTA 5.
Yeah, Gta IV rain was easier on the computer hardware as well... My Gta V lags hard when it rains despite a beastly PC
+Jimmy Carter +Jimmy Carter yeah I think V's rain looks too unrealistic with how big the drops are ( But they are sexy af, especially how every droplet mirrors it's surrounding! ) But still, the drops seem just a little too big in V and the puddles are way WAYYY too big and unrealistic, it looks like they did a half assed job when it came to puddles lol, When I first played on PS4 and saw the puddles from a helicopter I was like" wtffff is that? are those Oil spills all over the road?" Lmao, then the reflection is TOO perfect in V, Droplets in puddles aren't varied at all and looks way too fake. The only thing 4's rain needed was somewhat better reflection and maybe better rain splashes on the ground but that's it, a game like GTA that's done Rain, Rain Puddles, and Rain Reflection on roads REALLY WELL... is Watch Dogs whether I like to admit it or not.

The GTA V arcade playstyle is meant for GTA Online. Imagine how it would suck in GTA IV. Btw.. driving physics in GTA IV are extremely unrealistic. If you can drive a car in real life, compare it to GTA IV. The cars just slide away like there's ice everywhere.
+Jay Anam Nah, I guess you had never race a car in real life before. Try it once in the racing close circuit in your city. You just can't turn at high speeds and it's easy enough to lose control of the car . In GTA IV I use mods to improve all the cars' handling and speed + manual transmission mod. It's lovely. Realism ftw \o/
JesusAmaTeMenino I haven't said that GTA V is more realistic but even at low speed most of the cars in gta IV need HOURS to brake. Of course the destruction in GTA IV is more realistic but as you can see the game is much older, and you can truly say that the Rockstar developers knew what they were (and are) doing. If you want a realistic car simulation you shouldnt play any GTA, thats the point. Developers realised it and made it more like an arcade racer.
PS: Nobody is interested in a modded GTA IV comparison. The comparison is about vanilla GTA IV and V.

gta v graphics actually look like a cartoon compared to gta iv. I remember seeing an image from gta iv gameplay on one of my school textbooks, i thought it was a real life image until i looked closely and recognized the cars off gta.

The graphics on GTA V are far far far far better than that of GTA 4, not sure if you are drunk or something. And GTA V is soooo much more detailed.

Physics, interactions, building interiors, melee combos, and the mini health bars cops had were better in gta4. As far as graphics and some effects, gta5 has it, since its recent. Many of my thoughts for a better gtaV. The vehicle damage and the character flying off could've been the same as IV, but as you customize the armor and handling, it'll drive smoother and no longer fly you off. Speaking of which, better car customization. When you point a gun to a driver it could be any outcome from both games, the driver could drive off, try to run you over or actually get out and surrender. City services jobs need to return, cop, taxi, etc. All RPG elements from San Andreas as well as anything that has yet to return like the jetpack, flamethrower and vehicles. All content that has only been available for Online, needs to make its way to SP, clothes, Benny's, cars, interaction menu action, not all of us are rank 400 and has money to spend, and not everyone is cooperative. This could be great.

gta 4 map fells empty if the car physics just suck for the one who say gta 4 has realistic try drive a car like in gta 4 and the cars i bet they are not faster more than 150-170kmh but a great story
gta san andreas was the shit for it time it really had everything it needed good story good vehicles a lot of gangs cool map cool characters it is my second favorite gta
gta 5 in other words rockstar were like lets make the best game ever and they did it it has everything we ever wanted from a gta game
