I watched this about three times and just went for it tonight while my dad was grilling some pork. Didn't add the zest or parmesan and used garlic powder, sea salt, and black pepper along with 3/4 a tablespoon of lemon juice. Dad asked why I went to school for cosmetology and not culinary. felt great to see my family go in for seconds ♥
edit: erm I didn’t remember I made this comment because I never got notifications about it, so thanks to the people replying recently lolz

Even without the cheese, they are so tasty cooked this way. It’s all about the knowledge. The food did exactly what Gordon said, my pan started smoking, added the oil and the skin blistered straight away like he said. Just added some butter salt & pepper to mine.

Another step I do before I use his method is I blanch my asparagus. Boil a pot of salted water then once boiling place the asparagus in for only about 30 seconds, this gives them a much better green color than when you buy them at the store. It pulls all the chlorophyll out of them, then proceed with Gordon’s method. Best Asparagus you’ll have, easily restaurant quality

You need a non stick pan for this bc it won't work in a stainless steel pan. It will burn. I make mine in the oven w/same ingredients & it's perfect. I put them in a marinade of olive oil, garlic, lemon & anchovies & pour it over the asparagus then pop it into a 325 oven for 18mins. I put parmesan on top for the last 8 mins.Don't forget to tri m off the super hard ends.

I'm so confused about the blanching. When I read The ingredients it talked about blanching. But when I read the actual recipe the step-by-step it didn't say anything about it. Can somebody please explain it to me a little bit better. Also when I watch the video he doesn't put the oil in until after he put the asparagus in and the smoke starts rising. In the actual recipe it says to put the oil until the smoke starts and then put the asparagus in and so I am completely confused. If somebody can explain it to me a little bit better I would appreciate it because it does look delicious. Thank you!
