I own the tc electric flashback 4x and now I’m using the boss dd-500 2 reasons why let’s go the tc electric, 1- on some roooms it won’t cut and the boss will cut 2 - you can set up looper on live situations on dd-500 just holding press the firts Chanel and with the tap holding you can get back to the regular delay settings.
My personal favourite is the TC Flashback 2x4. If you can be bothered to get your laptop out for some toneprint editing, and dig into the Shimmer feature, it adds some really beautiful after-effects to the already awesome dual delay ambient sounds. A little delayed shimmery tingle on the end takes you into another world! Unfortunately, as it was the first pedal on display here, I thought it got skipped over a bit.
They do all sound so good, Bill. However, to my ears the Specular Tempus sounded, well...spectacular! I could hear what sounded like a high-pass filter and gentle modulation on the repeats, which sounded gorgeous and really opened up the stereo space. I have a DIG, and I just love the hi-fi quality of the repeats and its simple UI. My favourite delay types are analogue and analogue style dark repeats, but despite that, if I were to choose a "desert island" delay pedal, I think it would be the DIG. I would never tire of its sound and signature vibe.
just as I noticed after buying a DD-500, the Boss pedals you demo produce repeats with the least coloration (not sure I completely enjoy that) and with the greatest clarity - they cut through the mix like scapels, dang all others impart their own very musical and pleasant character on the repeats
I think you've just about got me talked into getting a Dig. I was headed that way but had to get the Deco V2 first. Now I think it's time to get that lovely, pink beast.
I know you've featured the Mooer Ocean Machine on your channel before but I think it would have been perfect here. Although even Mooer seems to have forgotten about it so I can't blame you. I personally love that pedal and it's on my board.
So many great delays. I’ve been wanting to upgrade my Boss DD-20 for a long time but it’s hard to decide which to get. I don’t think this video solved my issue but it adds to the debate. DD-500 seems like the deal for the most functions but also comes with a complicated menu that can be a burden. Time line is amazing but pricey and really old at this point. The hunt goes on.
Hello 😁 ..whats wrong with your dd-20? What do you dislike? I am just asking because i am actualy searching for a delay (my first one...i want to get away of the multieffect pedals) i dont want to spend too much money because i only play at my bedroom so the dd-20 looks like a good option for me on the used marked. I want a delay where i can SEE the exact delay time because i think it will makes it easier to dial in for certain songs like some david stuff of pinkfloyd. 🤔
@@marquisdecarabas1312 The DD-20 is really fantastic actually. I would like expanded sound options and more presets to help at gigs. It has only four. The looper is also not great but usable. It is a great delay that has served me well for 15 years and never left my board. If you would like to hear me use it check out my MAJIK BAND album MYCELIUM on TH-cam or any streaming service like apple or Spotify. The title song has a long looping analog delay part that is really cool. I guess I just want to get more functionality and some new flavors after all these years. Happy delay hunting.
I can understand why the Mooer was left out as the original blue one is now discontinued. I can not find a release date for the black V2 and really hope that they have sorted the "frying chip" problem; (A better heat sink?). Strings and Things are the suppliers in the UK. My musical partner has just had his Ocean Machine lock up completely so I am praying mine still keeps going. As always a great set of demos and wonderful playing Bill. (No pointless shredding). Have you tried the Boss SDE-3000 yet?
I'm planning on buying a Timeline. Today, I use a DD-8 and DM-2W. I tried the DD-500 and DD-200, and I didn't like them. I tend to gravitate to the Timeline because it's more immersive.
Nice comparison video - so MANY great choices. I need to explore my Source Audio Collider dual delay options 9along with TC Alter Ego x 4, and my newest HX Stomp. Does the new Wampler Metaverse have dual delay?
I'm looking for simple Brian May Brighton Rock dual delay in a small package. I can get there with the Flashback X4 (and thanks Bill for recommending!) Can I do the same with something more compact like the Dig v1? Delay 1 = 800ms Delay 2 = 1600 ms - simple! thanks very much
They all sound great Bill, especially the Amplitude, seemed a bit different to the rest.....have you ever tried the Walrus Audio D1, can't see it in your reviews and I'd love to hear your thoughts on it? Full of wonderful delays, dual, stereo, and small enough to fit on any board, and the V2 has some even better stereo options!
The Amplitube pedals each have a musical sound that stands out from the rest. Not as hi-fi sounding as top-end Strymons and Boss pedals, but they are well worth it nevertheless, in my opinion. Love mine to bits.
@@chordsoforion. It is weird, crazy and amazing..probably one of the most inspirational reverb pedals in the market along with strymon nightsky...IMO. check it out.
Good timing play. Are you using a click tracking device. If not you are doing great with timing play to the delay. Well done. we are on the same planet. Ive been a delay head since 1984.
I use a Pedaltrain Nano which may be one of the smaller pedal boards out there. The power pack & real estate can only accommodate six pedals. I love my Keeley Eccos but it needed repair ( they fixed it with no hassle). I use the Eccos for the looper as much as the delay, both are great. But in the Eccos absence I stumbled on a used Strymon Dig at my local music store. It took me a couple of days of turning knobs to appreciate the pedal but man what a great pedal! I have no experience with the other delays so I can’t comment there. The Boss DD-200 is interesting because of the looper & delay built in the unit like the Keeley Eccos. I got the Eccos back but I’m keeping the Dig on the board. I’m running a Ditto 2 off the board as my dedicated looper now.
Does the DL4 mk2 include the sounds from the Echo Park? I loved the three different modulation sounds from that pedal, but the whole series was so unreliable.
Maestro! Do check out the jam pedals Delay Llama Extreme: Its an amazing analog pedal with Pitchshifting and Random mode. Analog microcosm. Wonder what you would get out of it.
@@chordsoforion I have watched numerous videos of yours and found several very interesting, particularly the earlier ones, but talking about the variations of NINE stereo delay pedals? You’d have to be single, suffer from OCD and be bored stupid to sit through the whole thing.

if you're in the market to buy one of these delays it's great see someone go into such detail. i had no problem watching till the end as i'm looking to buy a dd500.
My fav is the Empress. Two separate algorithms at the same time. Really great sounding examples of each type. Covers all the bases and then some.
Love love love my DIG. Fave pedal ever - incredible cavernous sounds. Can't wait to dive into this vid
Boss DD-500 is a Beast for this application. Great demo Bill ( as usual ).

Specular tempus has a gorgeous sound
It does does for sure!
majorly
Sounds fantastic! My initial reaction upon hearing the first clip was, "The Edge has entered the chat." Great stuff!
beautiful sounding delays and, as always, awesome guitar playing! Thanks
love the video but have to say that the Ocean Machine is my favourite Delay pedal ever
great pedal on its own for sure.. is stereo out...not true stereo in and out... wont pass ping pong in from my triple delay.. comes out mono..

Very nice demo. All will do the trick quite nicely. GFI stood out to me.
I missed the TC triple delay… One of my all time favourites! So good 😊 So easy to get insane delay interplay.
why sell it?
Yeah, I probably should have added it into the mix, but the list was getting long... :-)

I like to use the dual delay on my DD-200 at 1% ratio to create resonances like a ring mod over the top of my playing.
Nice!
Interesting idea....I'll have to try it sometime
I bought my NUX DuoTime because of your demo...I thought it would have been in this shootout. 😉
I left out a few - seemed like 9 pedals was on the edge of being too many!

I love my Nemesis, Volante, and the delay on my H9. After watching this vid, the one that I would like to acquire next is the Empress.
Empress Echosystem!!! Wow!!!!!!!! My Favorit!
They are all winners!
pretty much
Gotta include the Keeley Halo next time
I use the TimeLine on just about everything. Sometimes I pair it with an Earthquaker Dispatch Master to add more delay… delay… delay…
It's still the Timeline in my opinion. There's just so damned much you can do with it and it sounds otherworldly at times.
I can't argue with that. Still love the Timeline.

Hey Bill I know you’re a fan of finger style playing. I was wondering if you were familiar with Mark Kozelek’s “banjo roll” technique?
No I am not. I can do a little of some of the Jerry Reed stuff though. Is there a particular song I can listen to?
@@chordsoforion I would recommend trailways by red house painters or admiral fell promises by sun kill moon (Kozelek’s two bands). Hope you enjoy!

Yes, it is indeed a great pedal. I gave it a much fuller treatment here: th-cam.com/video/rqxYjHRSEo0/w-d-xo.html
Bill prefers the TC Triple delay
it went for $150 last Black Friday in the USA, I mildly regret missing out, I already have a regular Flashback2
Hey, Dad. Which of these would you recommend for a pedal that can do both an oil can delay and pitchy stuff like perfect fifths?
O my child - Source Audio Nemesis.
The Meris LVX is by far the best dual delay out there! Ambient dream machine!
