Splendid video and dialogue. Great methods for refitting and bypassing the use of special tools apart from the one. Thank you too for the advice on fondue and aspirin utensils 👍👏👌

Using a small torch or a heat gun on the gearbox case, to expand it, before belting in the bearing helps a lot.

The reason the pawl doesn't go in a slot is because having the selector shaft '0' at 9 o'clock is a 'false neutral' position, between 2nd & 3rd if I recall correctly. My Ariel boxes are very similar.

No felt discs on mine. Seems pretty oil tight despite that

Im having trouble knowing which orientation the kickstart quadrant should be in when i'm fitting the casing?(1956 g3ls burman)I can't figure it out?

If it's the same as the Burman CP then make the teeth face the long end of the case and give it two full turns using the kickstart handle to tension. Minute 15 of the video shows the technique. Hope that helps. Let me know how you get on

Terry, these videos have been invaluable, many thanks. Question, should there be a kick start stop bushing on that pin in the lower left? Mine was all chewed up and I wasn't sure where it came from. Parts manual shows part# 320-X. Thanks

I honestly can’t remember if there was a bush there or not. Just reviewed the video and couldn’t see one. However, if the spares manual lists one then it would be wise to fit. Steve Surbey at AMC Classic Spares could probably advise

There was a hard rubber slip on bush, these were known to disintegrate over time, the kick start hitting the pin, and often breaking the corner off the inner cover. I have a box of inners with the corner missing.

    Bearing number please

Don’t know the number but dimensions for gear main shaft bearing are: ID 1 9/32, inch, OD 63mm, width 16mm. If you give Steve Siurbey a call at AMC Classic Spares he’ll make sure you get the correct bearing
