      The other thing. How big of a leap does Purdy need to have? Seriously? He was the most effective QB last season. The guy lit it up all season. Only a few bad games is all. The dude went nuts last season. Statistics show he was the best QB since he started. Stats don't lie.

      @@Richard-gw2lr I am a diehard niner fan and Purdystan. I think the issue last year was the team functioned as a unit through entire games. Purdy executed Shanahans plan. Because the gameplan never had to switch to Purdy just throw us to victory, at least on prime time games, people didn't view him as an it factor. Not knowing the whole thing including the run game works because of him. So next year, he would have to just take over games to be viewed that way even if its statistically less effective.

    I feel confident I can speak for most of us Niners fans when I say we have been absolutely wowed by Purdy and have not been this happy with our QB since the days of Steve Young. Any improvements that there is for this young man to make would have be small relative to the other QBs on the list, as he already has been putting up historical numbers. What we wish is for him to be able to keep up this level of production for years to come. Consistency, if you will.

  • @yeffisjeff
    @yeffisjeff หลายเดือนก่อน +61

    The point that Rich and TJ make is valid. Even now, if you asked people (fans, media, etc) "Who would you take: Love, Stroud, or Purdy?" Purdy would finish last in that poll. So there is a jump for him to make. Perhaps in terms of getting better as a player, but definitely in terms of being respected as a top quarterback (not just a strong QB who "got lucky"). Which, alas, isn't really under his control?

      I think Purdy lacks charisma and isn’t a born leader. He’s too quiet and un engaging. I don’t think he can drag a team up from a bad score. I think other team members have to do for him that in the 49ers. Contrast with Mahomes. He has passion and fire. His team would follow him anywhere. I think Stroud has that connection with his team mates. I think that’s a vital trait for a great QB.

To go from last pick in the draft, to coming in at the end of a season to save things. Come back from a throwing arm injury to get to the SB and come close to winning. • @RDSports5
    @RDSports5 28 วันที่ผ่านมา +10

    As a Niners fan, I was extremely impressed with Stroud, and also impressed with Love last season. That said, Brock Purdy had not only the rehab on a torn ligament in his throwing arm to deal with, but also the full weight of the franchise and league's expectation that the 49ers had to AT LEAST make it to the SB, if not outright win the thing. That was by FAR the most impressive job of the three in terms of just expectations, but if you're asking who will take the biggest 'leap' in their 2nd full year as starter, it's gotta be Stroud doesnt it... Kid was phenomenal as a rookie on a roster that was hoping to just be competitive. He and Demeco Ryans both took a franchise that was bottom 10 in the league and made them top 10 in essentially ONE SEASON. So as much as I love Brock Purdy, the leap won't be as large because statistically speaking he already threw for more yards than anyone in franchise history, and he was on the precipice of a SB title. Stroud winning a playoff game or two next year would be a huge leap forward

      49ers win in spite of Purdy, not because of Purdy, Purdy has the no1 RB, one of thee best wr cores and a top 3 defence.

      All thats required is he plays clean, i wanna see what happens when he gets paid high money and he loses som3 weapons since the team wouldnt be able to afford them, a lot of his stats are similar to JimmyG except Jimmy didnt have the weapons purdy has lol

      All three are awesome, but Purdy continues to be underestimated- Purdy had an awesome roster to work with? He had about the 23rd ranked offensive line that broke down a lot in a system based on timing- and he elevated all of his weapons by putting the ball in the best spot for yards after catch most of the time. Honestly with these three it seems too close to call right now, they are all exciting players who are respectful to other players and coaches in their interviews- all three seem to be great young leaders. But it's so annoying how people cherry pick things against Purdy all the time- if they build a strong o-line for him this year his game will elevate a lot no doubt.

      Packers are amping their team up in a different way: completely revamping their defense with a new scheme and a new aggressively minded defensive coordinator, and a staff to hopefully coach up the talent in a way Joe Barry never did, adding a high impact safety to that defense and switching out an aging running back who has missed a lot of games for a younger, more durable star running back, and then of course, there is this young team having a full year of experience now entering this next season, which could lead to fewer rookie mistakes on offense. That means more confidence in the players and the scheme. I could see them taking a leap simply on growth from year one to year two and new leadership.

  • @danyhENDRIX
    @danyhENDRIX หลายเดือนก่อน +2

    What on earth are these people talking about? Brock Purdy, up until the game against Baltimore, was a front runner for MVP. Every pundit on television believed that at the moment, and I bet even Rich had the same opinion until the Baltimore game! There is a video from October 3rd where Rich tries to 'make the case for 49ers QB Brock Purdy to get more consideration in NFL MVP conversations.' In another video, Rich described Purdy as 'Beyond Impressive'! After the Super Bowl, Rich called Purdy 'Terrific'! To now say that he was the weakest link of the 49ers is absurd and fucking stupid! 49ers got to the SB with Purdy QB, they didn't lose the SB because Purdy was the weak link, they lost because they ran into Mahomes! There is no bigger leap to take than playing in the Super Bowl, finishing the season with a 12-5 record, and being a part of MVP conversations for most of the season. And to understand how this discussion I think is ridiculous and stupid, it's important to note that I am a Ravens fan, so I have no love for the 49ers or Purdy! 🤣🤣🤣

    It was 100% fair for Brockman to question everything Rich was saying lol. It made no sense based on the title of the video and the question Rich asked. He should've just said "Who's gonna have a better year" like he said towards the end of the video lol. These guys don't play good football or bad football based off of the opinions of football fans, that's just not how it works lol. Brockman said it... Top 5 in MVP voting, went to the SB, favored to win it, lost in OT... a leap to what?? I suppose winning both the MVP and SB would count as "a Bigger leap" for sure. I think Stroud is going to have a better year. He was awesome last season.

    For the record, Stroud of the 3 had the most impressive first year as a starter for one reason, it was his actual rookie year. Jordan Love, 3 years professional experience learning behind a first ballot HoF. Brock Purdy, 1 year experience, 6 regular starts /3 playoff games. CJ Stroud, rookie (no experience). If i switched up their names, teams, stats the guy who came in as a rookie will always have the most impressive year cause he's just not supposed to do it.

      @@colton5802 Yes. He has the "it" factor. He's one of the most accurate passers in the NFL, short, medium, and deep passes with receivers whose speed is "okay" at best. I love Debbo, but let's be honest, his skills as a pure receiver pale in comparison to a Jamar Chase (who burrow has), Justin Jefferson (who Kirk had), AJ Brown, etc. if Brock had Cincys receivers he'd be unstoppable. Not to mention, his ability to quickly read a defense and get the ball out quick. Accuracy, reading a defense quickly, and getting the ball out quickly are the 3 most important traits for any quarterback - PERIOD. Throw in the mix his mobility and, perhaps, the most undervalued or appreciated trait - the ability to remain calm under pressure and show up in big moments when the game is on the line. You can't coach that. That's the "it" factor and why after just one full season he's a top 5 QB. Haven't seen Dak or Lamar do that. Mahomes, Allen, Burrow - the only 3 QBs who have been able to consistently do that. Now maybe he regresses and we have different conversation after next year, but I can only go off what I've observed. These aren't feelings, just facts.

    As a Packers fan I say it's Stroud, then Love and then Purdy, but all 3 will be top QBs this upcoming season with their teams making deep playoff runs. Stroud and the Texans have more to grow into, pretty much new everything last year, QB, HC, OC etc. all these will do better with the added experience. I wish the narratives about Purdy were true, but they're not, he's my teams biggest obstacle they have to defeat, probably for years to come Love vs Purdy will be a thing in the playoffs.
    The second half of the season Packers season is where Love will be at all the time, after Lafleur took the training wheels of the offense and started trusting Love, that mid season slump won't be a thing anymore.

    I don't think Jordan will individually be making the biggest leap, because he was playing at a damn near MVP level towards the end of last year. But I think he'll take the biggest leap in numbers. His number 1 target in receiving yards this year was Jayden Reed, a rookie. Watson was out for half of the regular season and still went for 422 yards. Wicks went for almost 600 yards in his rookie season as well and despite Musgrave being out with that lacerated kidney him and Kraft still put up serviceable yards. Most of the offense will be entering year 2 and GB has a swath of picks to shore up weaknesses.
    If this offense keeps humming Jordan will make a big leap because of his weapons. If Watson is actually healthy? Forget it, dude is going for 2013 Peyton Manning numbers

    Brock has more games, but Jordan Love is a year older and has an additional couple years on a roster, so I think Brock should be in the poll anyway. It's close enough. That said Brock made a hell of a leap already year 1 to year 2.. another equivalent statistical jump is unrealistic(it doesnt get much better than 9.6 yards an attempt and leading the league in deepball compl%). Itd be tough to match that let alone exceed it. But if his TD to INT ratio improves id call it another leap. I expect Jordan Love to have a better season than last year, but I think Stroud will have the biggest improvement from last year. I think all three QBs are pretty similar in my mind, BC they all play in similar offensive systems and all are adept at throwing intermediate and deep, even if Brock doesnt have the arm strength the other two do

    Purdy didn't really have a full off season in 2023. He was recovering from *_MAJOR_* elbow surgery. Chris Brockman has been a Purdy hater from the get go. How does Brock Purdy take a step up? By winning NFL MVP, the Super Bowl and Super Bowl MVP. That's how.

  • @no2_justin
    @no2_justin 25 วันที่ผ่านมา

    I’m with Brockman here. He’s not dismissing the fact that Purdy was *perceived* as not being on that level. The problem with adding him in this question of taking a bigger step is how do you measure that? To Brockman’s point, he was close to winning a SB and was an MVP finalist. Public perception isn’t very measurable because he’s always going to have doubters. Every player does. Fans aren’t objective and they say outrageous things a lot of the time. He can have an even better statistical season this year and there’s still going to be people that discredit him. So how do you measure his “step up?” Because statistically, like Brockman points out, there’s not much room to grow, aside from actually winning the SB and/or actually winning MVP. In that sense, there’s not as much room for him to grow as there is for Love & Stroud, who weren’t nearly as close to either of those things. Stroud was a little closer to the MVP discussion, so I guess I would say Love has more room to grow. Although I’m not sure yet whether I’m willing to say he’ll take that next step. Stroud is the one I have the most confidence in. My money would be on Stroud to have a bigger leap in year 2.

He’s a perfect fit for the Niners who need someone to distribute and remain poised and let the roster cook, and occasionally make an athletic play or two, all of which he does very well. Take away the Niners roster and we’re all calling him an average/above average game manager.
