    Great tips on bring back an old garage sale find. Thanks. As for your question - If I had anything that runs reliably, then that is my tool of choice. I've been stymied by both gas and electric tools in the past.

    I've got one just like that except yellow and labelled as made by Partner with a mention of Husqvarna on the sticker, it's from the mid 90's, only difference has no return fuel pipe and no primer. It stopped running and was in the shed for 5 years, I got it running but it had a mind of it's own day by day. I got so frustrated I took the whole thing to bits to stop me going back to it, and used the coil on a strimmer. It was the most annoying thing I've ever worked on...LOL

    The advantage of the electric hedge trimmer is you get to cut the extension cord and buy a new plug for the end. I prefer the gas trimmer myself or even a battery operated one. Thanks for sharing.

    This was a very interesting project, I worked on one of these this past summer. I would prefer this 100% over electric, I hate having extension cords follow me around and I find they just get in the way. However, this brand would not be my first choice as a hedge trimmer as they tend to get really heated during any prolonged use,just my personal opinion and I've used them in the past,so I speak from experience. Great vid as usual, love to see them!!

    I have this same MTD model mine is version 1. Version 2 has a redesigned fuel tank that is the only difference. The original designed tank were known to leak. Mine is leaking. I found an used replacement tank on Ebay from the model with the non priming carburetor. It fits with miy model. I just had to use a smaller purge line; With a really small tank splice to make it work. I also reversed the order of the lines coming of the carburetor, so the primer would work properly. I do use mine for my home use and commercial use. It still works great.

    I've got one of these but as an older model I wonder where you find the carb rebuild kits for these? Mine seems to not want to deliver the fuel although I might be able to get away with replacing the lines as they haven't been replaced and I noticed a slight leak coming from the general area.

    I am trying to revive the same exact trimmer but having trouble. I cleaned out the carb, and changed the plug, fuel filter and air filter. I replaced the fuel lines, although I used the same sized lines since I did not have the smaller sized line for the intake. I did add a reducer/coupler to the line to deduce the flow before it gets to the carb. Is that OK? I pulled the muffler which was not clogged. I ended up ordering a new carb for $15 and am awaiting it. I would appreciate you thoughts.

    This thing has the worlds worst design for fuel line routing. I might have cut a short piece of plastic wire loom to wrap the fuel lines in for a bit of protection and to zip tie them to something to fasten them and keep from just swinging in the breeze. It would be easy for them to get tangled up in debris when using this tool. Probably would have hurt to put a shot of WD-40 onto the cutters either. They have a tendency to get some rust and then "drag" a bit. The drag could also be a point that puts an undue load on the engine requiring you to re-tune after the drag condition gets cleared out. It's a neat little unit for homeowner use and as a homeowner gas is always better than electric. Keep up the yardsale finds. No yardsales in my area have power equipment.

    • @HomeGaragechannel
      @HomeGaragechannel  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I hate these things, tiny fuel tanks and only single action blades so they don't cut very well. Have done a few of them now but they were yellow with McCulloch branding. I only get a maximum of $60 AUD selling them, not really worth the time spent.
    I don't even know why anyone bought them, a battery hedge trimmer with dual action blades is far superior. If given the choice between this and a battery trimmer of the same price, I'd personally take the battery one without a doubt.
