His name was David Hahn aka The Radioactive Boy Scout. I went to high school with him. I didn't know him. He was a freshman when I was a senior. It happened outside of Detroit Michigan. There are few docs on youtube about the whole thing.
Fantastic song full of guitar power excellent for a live gig I saw DD in March 2001 and the only thing wrong was the stupid bouncers who confiscated my camcorder until the show ended
Hard to get into this song, and palomino (from a different album) for me. But I keep listening, and whichever song it is, I end up loving them all. So everyone should listen to this entire album and all their album's. I have so many to go...
I realized not too long ago that the chord progressions here are very similar to "Dangerous Type" by The Cars. Oddly enough, John Taylor later claimed that The Cars were Duran's favorite American rock band back in the day!
Warren was sacked from the band by letter, Le Bon couldn't cope with the band being out of the limelight despite the fact that Nick and Warren were writing some of Duran's best songs ever.
However, its NOT true Warren left the band to reform Missing Persons. At this stage, Simon was tired of how things were going and did not want to carry on the band in that version. He wanted to get the original 5 back together or he was probably going to call it quits. However, as we all saw, Andy had no intention of sticking around very long and split 2 years after Astronaut was released and while working on a new album. Well, he was fired, but its semantics. He was gone, band made it official.
Bit sad Warren got frozen out when the original line up reformed. They treated him a bit shabily at the end as well? Then Andy p*ssed off again, shame they didnt bring him back. They might not have needed to have collaborated with Timberlake/Timberland on that flakey Red Carpet Massacre album, most of which sounds like Timberlake/Timberland.
Had they got John and Roger back and kept Warren they could have carried on making great stuff like this.....but nostalgia got the better of them as did the dollar signs. Astronaut was awful and then Andy got rightly upset after the appalling RCM. It was obvious he wouldn't last. Warren however always added something special on their albums. Shame they are just a nostalgia band now reminding us of better times.
Even though Medazzaland is a jewel I understand they were experiencing issues with Warren, basically he wasn't just a guitarist anymore, he took the role of musical producer/director. Nick and Simon maybe were not happy about that way of working (there was no John anymore to add balance) and after they decided to reboot the band they found an uncomfortable issue having to tell your most gifted non-original member to downsize "hey let's go backwards and you just play some guitar chords and a few solos like in the old days while we'll retake care about the rest"...so they had to get rid of him in an amicable way (which was difficult to do and in the end they couldn't). But yes, Warren had been the best guitarist Duran Duran ever had.
Astronaut the song or album is not awful. Listen to the song live, and listen to the album over and over and then give us an opinion, I bet it'll be different.

What a life Simon Le Bon has had. Just in this one video, look at how many attractive women are dancing to his voice. Wow!

.....I hear a LOT of Ronson in the progression myself - NOBODY could write - or tease out, a vamp BETTER.....

4:45 funny moment and look at Simon's eyebrows)
Actually it IS true... I remember the story before DD ever released the song.

warren was kicked out for the sake of
reunion.

Agreed, Meddazzaland, Pop trash and the B side of Big thing are by far the most solids works by them. Astronaut is not my cup of tea.

What Simon says at the start of the video that is "totally true" is actually, totally crap.
But IMO, this is one of Duran Duran's best songs.
This is a true story. I remember the news about it.
Yup, true - David Hahn 'The Nuclear Boy Scout, RIP*
*Sad, but hardly surprising ..
Google the tale ;)
