I'm growing a chayote on a zone 9a. Your videos are super helpful. I'm surprised you take the seed out for cooking though. That was my favorite part to eat of a chayote when I was child.

I think I'm going to try and grow some of these this year. I got one to sprout last year but never planted it in the garden. I just need another trellis.

How many days does it take for zone 7? That may be the determining factor whether I try it this year or next because I haven't even gotten one sprouted yet by today (April 2nd).

It takes 5 months before you see flowers and fruits..you need to start sprouting in January and transfer them in containers for initial growing phase to establish roots. Then you can transfer in the ground when it's safe to do after the last frost

@@wellnessandcountrylife okay thanks. I'll have to wait until next year then unless I can find a couple of already sprouted plants.

carrot is the hardest vegetable and should require more cooking time but you put it in much later and your curry dish - you should watch some curry recipes from Malaysia and Indonesia.

I prefer my veggies not over-cooked or very soft. These are just suggestions on what you can do with chayotes. One can cook/prepare veggies however they want their veggies to be.. extra soft, medium, or crunchy.
