Why monitor is tilted? These cabinets back in the days used monitor positioned vertically. Best example is Space Invader arcade in NinCade style bartop.
If the Plexi-Glass (perspex) was angled instead of the monitor in would look better in my opinion, that's what i did many years ago, then add some dark stick on foam around the monitor, and push it up against the glass.
This model is based off the Nintendo cabinet not Ms. Pacman is the reason for this design. Think of Donkey Kong, Fix it Felix, Popeye, etc Example goo.gl/1H9igz Will definitely keep this feedback in mind if we do a Ms. Pacman style vertical cabinet.

That machine looks great but I think it should have at least 4 buttons on top that way you could have a shoot button and a bomb button plus the one and two player buttons also all on top not counting the bottom buttons but it looks great for sure.
I really like how this is laid out, but I can not seem to find the img file or Hurst vertical theme. Could you add some links for them, if they still exist. Thanks.
Looks Great! I'm a huge fan of all of the old arcade vertical flying/shooting games and I would love to do an all vertical setup using a Raspberry PI, unfortunately, the screen tearing it has when it is placed into vertical rotation is too distracting so I'm stuck having to use a more expensive SFF PC. Hopefully the Retro-Pie developers will get that fixed in the near future.
Jon Kapus I was wondering the same ... is motion blue doing something different cuz every Pi vertical I have done yielded crappy video but I noticed his pac man mouth moved properly while mine would skip frames and the mouth would just stay open.. I wish he would explain his Pi vertical setup more than changing the screen rotation setting there has to be more...
I think it started out as a horizontal theme with a vertical scrolling menu and then changed to a full screen vertical menu, but everything still relies on "display_rotate=1(or 3)" in the config.txt file. From what I gather, if someone is using rotate=3 (180 deg), they'll see a bigger performance impact versus using rotate=1 (90 deg). I'm not sure what rotation option you have setup but if it is set to 3, then that might explain why you're seeing worse screen tearing then what is shown in the video
Jon Kapus for fun I took my wolfanoz image and made it vertical with a “1” in the config and its usable. My old test was a different image and was set to “3” so there maybe truth to that. Im playing donkey kong, pacman , frogger, dig dug in vertical and its acceptable other games like 1943 will show tearing or slight frame lag but its playable . I think wolfanoz bumped the gpu mem allocation up in his config I’ll have to compare his to others I have. The wolfanoz 32gb 80’s image is my favorite image I think he tweaked the hell out of it ... I also prefer scanlines in the games to give it a true retro crt look so there’s probably a hit on performance there too , I hope on future releases they address vertical performance issues.
Can you import your own games from game paradise and if you can import your own games, are there lots of portrait games on game paradise? And are the gliches common with emulating games( like when you went into the game at 6:35 that glitch where it shows all random colors would bug me)

I'm looking at classics like Pinball Dreams for the Snes and others like it. Do you know if I can set them up vertically so they don't need to scroll. Or! Are there many good pinball games you've come across in that set up?
Still hoping you'll do a video on 15khz RGB on CRT. I don't care if it's Pi or PC or Android or whatever, I just need a lil hand-holding with that glorious RGB. :)

I'm surprised Namco isn't on their ass for the artwork. Back when i was restoring Ms Pacman cocktail machines they pulled my auctions from eBay for not having licensed artwork
I am not a fan of the control panel button layout. It looks like the player 1/2 buttons could be set vertically more to the right with the single button sitting on it's own. Then, you could probably go to 2 or even 3 buttons if you wanted.
Just a random idea, with the loss of EMU Paradise, there has been a conversation about preserving video game history and how some games could end up being lost. You seem to take a lot of pride in sharing these old games with your kids. What if you had some sort of reaction channel where you have your kids play obscure games? With all the controllers and cabinets you have, you are in a rare position where your kids can play these games the way they were originally published (vertical orientation, original controllers, etc). It might end being a valuable asset to the preservation of the art form. Just my two cents.
ETA PRIME should have options for number of buttons. I could never figure it out lol when trying to weed out my roms for my cocktail cab. But I was trying to do after long nights of work when insomnia was kicking my but that prolly didnt help me any lol
Man, ETA... I really like your videos and content. A couple things always get though. First man, you gotta fix that run command launch screen. Especially with such a nice build like this. Have it launch menu art or something vs. showing that gray ugly box. And I know you’re US and every time I see your RPi emulationstation setup, I see you never change the Mega Drive menu logo to Genesis. Its also an easy fix and aesthetically pleasing.
I’ve done video tutorials on both LOL, it’s usually not something I think of until later on down the road. Getting everything sorted out first making sure everything is setup correctly and then I’ll fine tune the interface. For me gameplay comes first and then I can make it look pretty. Personally I’d be fine with an easy to navigate text menu as long as I can play my games.

So the setup you have here is over $400 if my calculations are correct. That’s crazy expensive! Better off just building one yourself. I’ve built a similar arcade and it was very easy if you have any wood working skills. I only spent about $125 total including the pi and joystick with buttons.

I own a self build verticade arcade. There are so many great vertical shooters that use two buttons. One for fire and one for bombs.

also that way the speaker/s could go under the marquee, with a volume button/knob protruding, again that's what i did

Speaking frome experience, Samsung Syncmaster blue led's can keep people awake at night. Sharpie + alumin(i)um tape + black ducttape works wonders.
