I was young, just 4years old. but remember the 1975 Armageddon. a cousin of mine, told me recently how he and his father came to visit one day, and a thunderstorm came thru he said that me and my siblings ran for cover under a picnic table yelling that Armageddon was here. it's funny when you think about it. but sad also. I wish my parents had seen the real truth back then. instead of staying in. my siblings and I could have had a better childhood, we could all now have a close relationship with our parents. but they still choose the religion over their own flesh and blood.

I suppose that no one will question being a JW until they have their own "crisis of conscience" to borrow a phrase. Showing why you had a COC, doesnt translate to an active witness if they havent ever had cause to seriously consider.........what is going on here? The path of logical action always gets diverted by fear of loss, which is very powerful, until finding the actual truth of a doctrine or a personal matter overpowers the fear. In the meantime many witnesses have built psychological guard rails, to keep the scales on their eyes from falling off, which cause them to have peculiar personality disorders. Its not just witnesses who do this, but all exjws recognize many of these peculiarities dry up when they leave.
What's wrong is when new members don't questions what they are being taught and blindsightedly shun and disrespectful of family and engage in bringing others to a false religion. You have allot to feel guilty about and need to repent.

So all religions are cults but all religions are not destructive cults like JW's .Destructive cults like JW's are high mind control groups with destructive influence.They have practices and behaviors inherent in their theology and policies which harm people,violate human rights and free will and hence destroy many peoples lives and families in the process.
Oh and decent people get involved in this cult because the organisation engages in deceptive recruiting and presents itself as outwardly benign to the world. They also pray on peoples natural weaknesses and have a sales pitch about living forever in paradise where you never have to grow old or die and will be reunited with loved ones
a cult has a controlling leader. Jesus did and does not control anyone. He sowed the seed (gospel) and left it to sprout or wither on different types of ground, as he illustrated in the parable of the sower.
How to differ a real spiritual community really connected with spiritual realities (well, a socially organized valid religion - real jewish, christians, buddhists, muslims) from a group of actually social control and seclusion revested of such spiritualities, as it the JW seems to be.

I remember 1974 and he is 100% correct. I also left the organization shortly after that. The myth lost its drive and the dream was gone.
