The biggest complaint I hear about using a ratchet for your Ring of Steps is the noise.
I have been using a Ratchet with my Ring of Steps for over 5 years now and have found a way to install the ratchet Nearly Silently.
It just takes a little extra time, just like every other process in mobile hunting to keep it quiet.
Having a 3rd hand would be beneficial but I have found using my mouth to hold the ratchet strap is sufficient.
Take a look and give it a listen and see what you think about the noise level.
Good Luck and Happy Hunting
I just cough real loud when it's about to click when I'm in the stand
You may want to try this instead. I feel it may be a better option. Good Luck regardless!
A crow caw or owl hoot would probably be better js
Lol just joking guys.
I was hoping lol
Like covering up a fart in school 😂
Bought them for last hunting season, worked great. Light and don’t take up much room. Can’t wait for new tree steps in February
Awesome! Any luck? I can't wait either. Alot of problems solved with these!
The noise is amplified inside that metal building too. A honey bun wrapper is way louder Lol
Holy Goodness is a honey bun wrapper loud! What a fantastic point 😆
Yes, but I'll be damned if I'm goin hunting without any honeybuns......damned I say lol
Thanks for the pointers
You bet!
I just bought some at the mobile hunters expo in Kalamazoo MI and look forward to using them this season.
Is there a way to keep your ratchet quiet when you go to take it off the tree? Mine always seems to give me that loud pop when I try to take it off the tree
I keep my fingers in the gears as you say. Slow n easy click by click. Also taking gloves off helps
100%. As quiet as anything. Mabey quieter!
@@BullmanOutdoors I see those bigger steps and thinking I need make another purchase. Mine are the smaller steps from a few yrs ago. No complaints just I could see those larger steps being a tad more comfortable
Same here! I have the older version of steps and will be looking to upgrade. @@travisethridge4062
Ive always done this with my ratchet straps while hunting. I never understood the guys that say its too loud, it aint rocket science
My question, why don't folks use the hollow braid ropes like the one that came with the old loc-on stands?
Thanks for sharing,
Steve
For this specific application it doesn't get tight enough. The Ring of Steps need a ratchet from perspective. As to the hollow braided poly... the invention of Amsteel did away with it I believe. Amsteel is also hollow braided but much stronger while being much smaller in diameter. It's amazing tbh! You should check it out.
And the deer smell the oil and poof no deer 😑
They smell everything down wind!
Deer are freaked out by human smell mainly. Think about it, you can park a 4 wheeler in the middle of a foodplot and they'll feed right next to it even though it smells like gas, oil, plastic and everything else. Like I said before it's human smell that they're wired to run from
@@mikeguy9668exactly. These dudes think deer are afraid of everything.
They aren't. They are afraid of YOU. And the smell of YOU.
Deer aren't afraid of oil.. oil doesn't kill them.
@@ryans9029 you're right for sure. But hey, they can't be too cautious I suppose
For anyone watching this, I will say this, as mentioned, you will make a little bit of noise setting up, I would rather have a tool, that only makes a small amount of noise on set up, then have an attachment method that is a little quieter on set up, but squeaks a tiny bit every time you move once you are hunting. I have been using another product, no names mentioned, that throughout the hunt it would pop or squeak occasionally and typically when you are trying to make a move for a shot, that was so aggravating to me. SO the little bit of noise on set up is minimal in my opinion versus one that makes noise through out the entire day of hunting. Thanks for doing what you do and I do agree on holding the clicky parts to lessen the noise during initial set up. Keep up the great work sir.

@HeartlandMakesAndOutdoors thank you Dale. And good luck to you !
#9 stinks VERY BAD!!! What is this guy thinking, saying to use that!!!
You can always uae something else...But, It doesn't stink much worse than bad breath, oily hair, or body odor... If a deer gets in my down wind stream it's over regardless of what oil I'm using
If it bugs you that bad just use coconut oil
Deer aren't afraid of gun oil. They are afraid of the scent of predators. Humans are predators. Our skin. Breath. Hair. Etc.
Not smoke. Not oil. Etc.
How long is that strap? For the ring of steps I hunt bigger trees sometimes
Quick question: Wouldn't the OCB STRAP BE MORE QUIETER?
Well, that would depend on how quiet you are with the ratchet. For me no. I personally just don't like the ocb. It seems it's either too tight or too loose.
