Maybe I’m a bit biased, but I prefer Ritchie Blackmore. Iommi is a riff master, but Blackmore is an incredibly versatile guitarist who can play literally anything, and he always brought his influences to the table when he was in Purple.
That’s so true, listening to their first albums those in 68,69 & 70 🔥🎸. Though Sabbath is amazing. I’ll have them like this Page, Blackmore, Iommi & ofcourse Hendrix would top them anyday & who would take that 5th ? Schenker then Gilmore.

I LOVE both these bands. But hearing you play those hallowed Purple riffs with all that added distortion and beefier pick ups in the guitar breathes new life into those Old DP Warhorses. Man, fantastic as always, really do enjoy these.

Ritchie Blackmore is another thing that only fifth chords. When I was a teenager and did not know how to play the guitar, I could only try a Black Sabbath songs. I love the music of Iommi in Black Sabbath but Ritchie in Deep Purple and Rainbow is something very superior. Blackmore is synonymous with Quality in Quantity.
Both are equally good. But to me, the moment that REALLY solidified metal wasn't Sabbaths' first album, but rather Deep Purples' In Rock. That album is epic from start to finish.
I kind of agree with Pedro Cheves... but that's a hard decision because I love them both. I guess if I had to choose or die, it would be Deep Purple in Rock
Ritchie Blackmore is one if the best all time greatest guitarist ever and light years better than Tony!! Who I love by the way! It took me a while to really play Highway Star right but once I did l got the best crowd response at our gigs with it and Comfortably Numb. This was a fun post thought!!! Thanks!!

Sabbath has wayyy more iconic riffs. Even when the last one or two Ozzy/Sabbath albums sucked, they came back with Dio and did "Heaven and Hell" and "The Mob Rules" which were both incredible.

It also came out two months before Sabbath's debut, and Purple's pre-Gillan albums were heavy psychedelic/proto-metal, which were also groundbreaking.

Well, Brian May's work has always been hard rock/heavy metal influenced. Queen's work has had an importat role in the development of metal music.
Dire Straits have some fantastic hard rock riffs too (ex. Money for nothing, Heavy fuel)
