Good man pulled these of a few times panicking when on low health while in a boss fight, now I no how I did it.. Thank you much appreciated my good man..👌🍺👌
I love how you allow us to enter the spoiler port or leave and give us time to consider. Also the frost build-up wit dodging in between is the sickest combo advice Ive heard so far! Great video!
My favorite combat mechanic I’ve discovered is on the mashing triangle, flame whiplash thing for the blades if you walk closer to the enemy and kind of aim it while spinning it around it can hit the enemies and slightly stagger them. Giving you the time to get it charged for the r1 or r2 attack without getting hit
If you do the sprinting R1 attack on the blades and continue holding the R1 button it immediately transitions to the up close blades combo you. Super high DPS potential if you catch an enemy that was recently staggered from Sonic or a runic attack.
This was the exact video I needed. Very well explained with easy to watch demonstrations. No filler or waffling on. Down the point. Thank you so much 👏🙏.
Idk if anyone else also figured this out but if you hold on the d pad when switching weapons it does your first attack, it’s very helpful for keeping combat fluid while quickly switching weapons.
THANK YOU for the spoiler warning. Even though its been a week already but its just taking me some time to get through. So many youtuber are killing me with thumbnails alone.
Woah, that end combo shortcut on the Chaos Blades (R1,R1,R2,R2 / R2,R2,R1,R1) just blew my mind, let alone the whole video. The R1 hold & dodge continuation for the Axe? WTH? Hold up… I knew I noticed some weird shortcuts mid combat but didn’t think you could actually do mixed combos like that; this game just keeps blowing my mind… Thank boss
I stopped watching once I reached the spoiler part, but now that I finished the game I’m continuing the video and I must say there are some very useful tips here!
5:57 once you got the upgrade, it's better to end that with R2 as it leads to a devastating damage, and it's also a reminiscent move of the Greek God saga, so satisfying!
Great pointers, and thank you for clearly flagging spoiler material before midpoint. I'm prob less than a quarter in, but your two videos so far have been a great help. I love the combat in the games matched with the "no mercy" difficulty, but you get your ass handed to you pretty quick until you master some of the best combat techniques and hacks. I'll come back to watch the 2nd half once I'm sure past the halfway point of the game!
If you pause your attack you get into that stance where you can throw the Axe forward with R2 or in circles with R1. You can mix those two combos together and make it longer by starting with R2 then press R1 to launch your axe forward then R2 to swirl it around R1 to go forward again and then R2 for the last spin.
150 hrs in, 3rd playthrough, 95% complete on GMGOW and left with just Remnants, the "King" and Queen and I knew almost none of this😂 Thank you. Glacial rake and Atreus' Arrow-Dodge Arrow and the Launch 3 arrows will be added to my arsenal after NG+ comes out... or the next GOW. I'm tired😂.
The utility of the Blades' held R1 string is my bread and butter when using that weapon. Similiar to what you pointed out with the Serpent Snare, it has a slow wind up when using it on its own... but holding R1, using it out of 1. A running R1 2. A running R2 3. A forward dodge R1 4. A held R1+L1 grappling shoulder check It'll always transition quickly and smoothly into the chaotic rampage blade flurry. It absolutely carves enemies up, especially when upgraded. I go for increased elemental build up. I actually prefer the implementation of this move in Raganrok over 2018's alternate stance blade combo.
Hold left right and down on d pad for swapping weapons for an auto attack. Swapping to the axe from another weapon holding d pad also sets u up for the R1 combo where he boomerangs the axe around. Make sure the axe charges while holding d pad then swing
Draupnir Spear Heavy combo is an infinite combo. The delay between the end of the third R2 attack and the start of the first R2 attack is very very short making it very good for dealing with swarms of smaller enemies. Also, if you alternate R1 > R2 >R1 >R2 >R1 > R2 you'll always get the Rising Wind finisher skill on the 6th hit.
"dramatic murder learning effect" class lol edit: that R2 R2 (hold) combo u mentioned for a quick serpents snare has been a game changer for me wow many thx
I love these tips and tricks videos, it means you guys really utilise the gaming mechanics which is awesome (and not just play games for the sake of playing to complete). Would be great to see analysis videos or more so reviews for games coz I definitely trust you guys explore games to get the most out of Em.
A cool, not really a combo, but a technique, is with a certain blades skill, after any attack, if you wait the right amount of time, it will instantly charge the full spinning triangle attack, but you don't just have to use a blades attack, it can be a shield bash. Combo: L1 + L1 (quickly), wait until you feel a vibration, Triangle, either R1 or R2
The combat in this game feels so much more fun than the first. Maybe it’s the enemy variety and how they compliment your abilities, but it just works so. Damn. Well.
Making me wanna beat the game again. Thank goodness I have the mod for new game + and I keep all of my moves, weapons and gear from the beginning of the game!
One thing you helped me realize but forgot to mention is the fast track to plume of chaos. The slow mo finisher that does big damage and burn. R2 r2 r1 r2
After watch this video I went and tried some stuff. Blades of Chaos. Doe Chaotic Rampage(R1) then dash either sideways or back(forward too if you have the forward dash move disabled, I guess) and press either R1 or R2 to get the light or heavy combo ender. TL;DR Hold R1 dash R1 or R2 for the combo ender.
5:29 also for anyone seeing this. I just found out you can shoot even faster while standing still by shooting, block, then shot again. It takes a while to get the timing right but once your good at it (and have r1 on cooldown) you can shoot your bow much faster without jumping all over the place. Also when it comes to this the talon bow and jötnar bow shot at the same pace, while the Aesir bow needs a quick pause before firing. Just a warning if doing this with aesir.
Something I found on my own: If you have a weapon equipped & press R2 2x, R1, & R2 (or whatever buttons you have for light & heavy attacks), you can immediately hit the Pride of the Frost/Plume of Chaos/Rising Wind combo without the long windup.
My personal favorite move is when you recall the axe and press L1 and R2 right at you catch it kraits will jump in the air and strikes the ground with high element effect
You can serpents snare a stunned enemy, press r3 while they're airborne and have kratos stun grab them when they touch ground. You can also do the flame whiplash (spam triangle) moves while aiming though i don't think that actually does anything different.
After playing DMC3, DMC5, Doom Eternal, and other buttery smooth combat systems; playing Ragnarock is hard. Even after playing it for 6 or so hours now I can't help but feel it's stunted. I get that it was probably done to make it feel more approachable for new players but for me personally it's not something I enjoy. I hope that after learning more of the intricacies of combat I can somewhat obtain a bit of that smooth gameplay that I love more combo focused games for
absolutely agree with you. specially coming from Doom Eternal, the combat feels slugish and not as flashy compared to GoW18. Yes there are more enemies and more finishers blablabla but the animations are not as smooth or flashy, they kind of glitch out sometimes or just feel unpolished. The problem is that, precisely, that is the main event in this slugish combat system. Its meant to be easy to dominate because the main event is the eye candy. But god damn the amount of stun the enemys do to kratos is just ridiculous, the bosses just tank everything and you get interrupted even in the middle of the runic attacks. Hell, even in the middle of the dodge roll you can get interrupted. How is that even a thing IT A DODGE ROLL how can they interrupt my dodge with their attack? that defies the purpose of the dodge! and they removed the hand combat, which reeeeally sucks IMO. Also, Atreyus' rage transformation (wolf specifically) is a mess that glitches out everytime you try to attack anything that isnt a draugr. I loved the story but hated te combat. Not even that flashy-epic this time around :/
What a great video! Saw this kinda late after putting in about 40 hrs but still got a good amount of the game left(a lot of the hours were spent on side quests😅) so can’t wait to try it!
3:53 I definitely think he will get a true melee weapon in the future. I’m thinking either a sword or Mjolnir. Or both ? He’s extremely agile. Moves faster than Kratos. But he doesn’t have a designated 🔼 mechanics except the ability that lets you grapple toward an enemy. That’s “free real estate” in the minds of a combat designer and I definitely feel like he will get his own. They’ve already designed the hammer. How it looks, moves, sounds, the power, the element. The atreus game will need to introduce the players to a weapon like that just as they did with Kratos so i definitely think they should do it.
I was able to do a slow mo action with Loki in my first interaction, when I performed a Dive shot ( Die Hard slow mode shoot). Hw I did it, I don’t know. 😅

I'm only in vanaheim and so far kavasir is the best armor ive found althou the one that poisons enemys does amazing damage ive been using that for a few hours now
Also tell people to explore and do side quests in alfheim as soon as they can
As really really early on you can get kavasirs armor (witch time from bayonetta)
And not too much after you can get best light runic in gow 2018 and ragnarok
Which was is will be hels touch
but bgb/bame breaker god and smvr might have found this
Good man pulled these of a few times panicking when on low health while in a boss fight, now I no how I did it..
Thank you much appreciated my good man..👌🍺👌
One of the most satisfying things in the game is throwing the axe running at the enemy and then pressing l1 and r2 to recall and and slam down
agreed. I use that alot

Wait... Really? Commenting so I can find this later.
Yeah I just discovered it yesterday on accident.
Whaaat?
Also if you press down on D pad while blocking, instant turn. No need to map it
Nice
love your choice in spoiler transition. just good direction.
OFFICIALLY the only GoW combat guide I watched that was WORTH watching, thank you!
THANK YOU for the spoiler warning. Even though its been a week already but its just taking me some time to get through. So many youtuber are killing me with thumbnails alone.
I wish I saw this before I dumped 30 hours into the game flailing around
This method is also acceptable. Do not fret!

Awesome tips man! Atreus was super fun to play already, but that time stop madness takes his combat to another level. Keep up the good work!

My boy Boomstick with the great video. Kudos to you man. I was hoping you could make a video on what mod tokens are the best for each skills.
This video is sick, thanks for the tips man
I stopped watching once I reached the spoiler part, but now that I finished the game I’m continuing the video and I must say there are some very useful tips here!

Great stuff! New sub🍻. The music is fitting
Most of the combat tip videos I've found for this game are trash. This is actually useful.

You interchanged R1 and R2 in your second sentence. Lol. But yeah, I didn't this. I thought you can only do 3 attacks even if you mix R1 and R2

Good job, I literally gagged at the Loki pun. As Mimir would say "Truly terrible wordplay there little brother."

how do you make your chaos blade ignited like at 3:02
You can serpents snare a stunned enemy, press r3 while they're airborne and have kratos stun grab them when they touch ground.
You can also do the flame whiplash (spam triangle) moves while aiming though i don't think that actually does anything different.
The holding buttons and dodge canceling is a game changer
