I love how they both unapologetically accepted who they've become without their hair. It's beautiful to witness them talking about alopecia and educating us about it.
My hair started falling last year. It took a while for me to come to terms with losing my hair. I remember all these women "encouraging" me to wear wigs but I just couldn't bring myself to do it. I am thankful that I have now accepted it and love the bald head (even in winter).
I am shaving my head next week by choice and for spiritual reasons. I dealt with alopecia when I was younger, but I have not for a while. I have been having a time preparing as my hair has been growing in locs for 20 years now and reaches to my hips. I have shaved the sides and back already, but any time I pull my hair back and don’t wear it wrapped as a crown on top of my head, it is challenging for me. I still have more than 3 feet of hair on the top of my hair that I style. I am grateful for this episode.
I was diagnosed with alopecia areata when I was 18. I had and still have three bald spots that refuse to grow. Besides the immune system deficiency, the doctor said it was also due to traction. I do specifically remember tying my hair up in a very tight pony - too tight that I'd develop pimples. Did this for two years. I went through a 6 month treatment - cortisol steroid injections once a month. It didnt work. I consulted a demartologist again 4 years later. He told me it may have started off as alopecia areata but that it then had developed into lichen planopilaris. The doctor didn't seem confident that my hair would ever grow back so I too lost hope. It's wonderful to see that this show covers such topics too. Outstanding variety ! Thank you sis Rele. I'd love to see an interview with someone who has Bell's Palsy. Once again thank you for such wholesome content🙏
You are not alone beautiful ladies.i have suffered from scarring alopecia since 2013 and have been told by 3 dermatologists that I will never have hair😭😭😭.not giving up though
I went to boarding school with a girl who didn't have any hair anywhere when I was 13-15yrs old, I didn't know this anything about alopecia and would feel sad when other kids teased her about the fact that she had no hair. If only we had access to information such as this back then maybe people would have been more understanding and less mean. Thanks Lebo and your guests for educating us.
These standards though that we create they make us to suffer. We as people are so so so diverse and unique. The Universe is forcing us to stop looking life in one way but know we are unique and enough the way we are. First hearing about this disease but I know someone who has alopecia and I always asked myself what the cause but I never asked. We live her the way she is. I appreciate the two ladies for open and sharing their journey which I'm sure it wasn't an easy journey. Praying for them to continue to courageous and confident with their new normal, I'm not only saying to them to myself too. I'm learning we need to be kind as humanity because you never know what the cause. The words we say rethink before saying them because comments or jokes are hurtful to so many. Let be kind and compassionate South Africans. Sending love and light to Toda guests.
What’s funny is that we all do not fit to the beauty standards we set(there’s something that we won’t have), this proves that nobody is perfect. So we have a society of people feeling insecure because we all have that one thing thats said to be “ugly”, we’re all beautiful but different, we should free ourselves from all these narratives and beauty standards which don’t even exist !!!!
Wow 😮 was so looking forward to share but I guess I didn’t meet the criteria 😢after I was approached 🤷🏾♀️. Alopecia is real and it’s one of those conditions that are overlooked
I'm raising a daughter who suffers from alopecia and it is hard, I am always consciously trying to raise her confidence and let her know its okay to walk around as she is with no hat on. Society still has a long way to go though because people always assume she's a boy and it breaks my heart when she tells me how other girls in school exclude her because of how she looks.
So sorry about what other kids are doing to your beautiful angel🤗🤗😍😍. Keep affirming your baby girl and tell her it's okay to be natural without hair and still feel beautiful. She can still be anything she wants to be with a bald head. I wish she could get a book by Miss SA 2020 Shudufhadzo "Shudu Finds Her Magic". There's a part that she read from the book about being beautiful from the inside.
I first heard of alopecia from a movie but didn't really understand it until I saw Warren Masemola talk about it..n I thought to myself for as long as I've known Warren I never really noticed he didn't even have eye brows...
I have thin hair and my edges have totally disappeared and for the past 3 years I have been shaving my head, recently I decided to grow so I can dye now after watching this I will be shaving it and won't dye, thank you for this episode
I honestly did not know about this condition. Can I start by saying these women look absolutely beautiful?. They are so articulate. I'm definitely going to do my own research about this. Thank you!
I think my mother has it though not diagnosed.,In her 20s she went to a salon to have her hair relaxed as usual her hair all fell off and they never went back to normal...they fall off and come back and be stagnant
At age 11 or 12 there was a classmate that seemed to have hair one day and none the next. I know many people now with different forms of alopecia. Scientific studies show relations to GMOs, environmental poisons in water and air as well as EMFs.
I can identify with today's stories. I started losing my hair 17 years ago. U move from pillar to post trying to salvage what u know u had not realizing it's not coming back. The way clean shave suits me now I can't believe. I only use a wig to tighten a hat or doek otherwise clean shave it is
What do you mean?? If I have a choice and still choose to shave, is it not understandable?? People should do whatever they want, given that they have the choice or not !!!
@@cheryl-janem8794 right! I cut my hair every 3 months by choice. I’ve been doing so since I was 18 and I’m currently 22. I have more confident with tapered hair (no, I’m not a lesbian) than I do with hair.

How did you regrow your hair?
Very educational. My ignorant self always thought going through chemotherapy was the only cause of hair loss. Thank you for this.
