I don't think the parents were ever really a problem. I agree with whoever said that this seems like a metaphore for depression where Embry literally feeds their own psychosis and it makes them feel better because they think it's helping them as they have made that a comfy space for themself almost like self medicating. They literally feed the other version of themself but eventually the emotions take over and whatever sanity they had left gets destroyed.
That was probably mine. I didn't think about what the ending meant until I read yours. Saying something like "it's time to end this" and ending on going to the basement, despite being killed in her dream when she did so, could point to a bad result of Embry killing themselves to get away from the pain.
if im not wrong crowscare is a game that is connected to embry you can actually see her parents in the town i think they were staying there because the car broke down and thats it.
If you like things like this, these under the radar games, I recommend checking out ManlyBadassHero. He doesn't have as much energy as Jay, but he does play the game and provide great feedback and commentary throughout.
I have a strong theory for this game. Embry is suffering with depression. I’m assuming it’s due to whatever happened with their parents. The basement is Embry’s mind, and in order to keep the mind calm, Embry has to feed their “mind” so they don’t corrupt Embry with more memories of the past and cause more hallucinations. I think the doctor was the antidepressant for Embry. However, Embry is afraid to reach out because with all of Embry’s experiences of letting people help them, they “fall down” into this hole that shows the truth behind Embry and what really happened in all. My theory is basically explaining how everything is representing Embry’s mindset. In order for someone to genuinely cope with something, they have to keep the situation satisfied, right? That is why Embry reassures themselves so much, in order to stay sane. Embry doesn’t want to be remembered as the monster during whatever incident occurred for their parents to be taken away. However, the mind becomes aggressive, and Embry gives up. Embry, at the end of the game, goes into the basement. Embry allows the mind to consume them, or, “eat” them, which is what Embry feared this entire time. Sorry for such a long theory, lol. If you read it all, I appreciate you!
Not even to mention that the fruit woman noticed Embry was wearing the same clothes multiple weeks in a row, perhaps deeming that they no longer feel like caring for themselves

The developers of this game (and others in the same universe) have such a distinct style that's both cute yet creepy. Highly recommend that Jay play other games in this series.

i think the purpose of this game is like many other short rpgs and the creator wants the players to make their own ending in their mind, we cant be certain what the monster that embry was dealing with, or if they were even dealing with a monster in the first place. but its a very well written game

Okay so here’s my theory I think that Embry was most likely involve with what happened to her parents and now she feels guilty about it and had fallen into a depressive state. That’s why she locked it, so she doesn’t have to deal with her thoughts in her mind and the doctor was most likely trying to help her with her depression so he wanted her to open up to him. She most likely calls herself a monster because of what happened to her parents and what happened to the doctor as well.

I belive Embry threw their parents down the stairs because they didn't want help because they state they heard screaming. Since the light is in the bottom of the stairs they probably never seen them fall to their death. This idea come from the nice doctor who act like their parents and the happiness lost when their parents died. So their dad died just like the doctor. This also explain the odd name and clothes the doctor wear. Especially Embry description of the doctor looking like a "clown". The father probably fall first and the mom run after him or the other way around. Embry feel like their parents death is their fault because of this.

(Theory) If you keep checking in with the toy box as you play through the game will it change the ending somehow? (Because embry found the key to the basement in the toy box and she even said that she had never put it in there before and that she had no memory of the event, plus the fact that you could see what I can only identify as “the monster” in the toy box when embry checked under her (proper pronoun being theyre) bed. Therefore I came to a conclusion/theory that if you keep checking in with the toy box you might find something new or even a secret ending of some sorts), (but again this is just a theory I came up with when watching the vid)
I'm curious about this also. There were options to check the drawing, but I also wonder if throughout the game you can also enter the bathroom or the parents room.

My theroy for this game is that Embry is in a mental hospital. Here me out right? They goes to the market to get things, which means exiting the hospital. Sometimes they let people out for fresh air in a safe place near the facility. What if they have schizaphrena and the "basement" is actually a trash can where Embry throws their food away. Docter D. light may be a theropist for Embry and Embry trying to get out of this situation, pushes the doctor away, thinking if they do this, Embry can finally be alone

I’m so happy you played this game! I watched Gloom play it a long time ago and I absolutely loved it. I actually played it a couple months ago and it was even better playing it than watching someone play it! I had hoped you would play this game so when I saw the notification I was so excited!
this game is amazing! But my theory is that they has schizophrenia, and the cause of there parents being gone has made it worst. The main reason i think this is cause she was hearing voices from her parents that weren’t actually them. And the doctor was there trying to help them with there schizophrenia by going into the basement and proving them its in there mind, but he ended up falling and the blood was probably from the impact of the stairs. But in there mind they thought the monster took ate him. thats just my theory
I think Embry has Multiple Personality Disorder and/or dissociative personality disorder which is why they have memory problems. I think You’re is the second personality, the killer side of them and when Embry pushed the doctor it was You’re switching places with Embry which is why there is a dark screen and blood. Embry can’t recall anything that You’re does. I think the doctor cutscene is Embry struggling to figure out which personality they are so that’s why they lock themselves in the basement at the end. For visualization, think Toko Fukawa and Genocider(if that helps clarify)

I saw a comment saying that maybe this game is a metaphor of Embry going through depression and it got me thinking. I think the part where Embry was suprised to find the key on a toy box was a metaphor of how she didn't realise that her depression rooted/started from her childhood. My mind was translating "the key to the door was in a toy box" into "the key to her depression was in her childhood". Ehhh sorry if I'm wrong, I just thought of it😅

Jay will fr always be that dude that I'll remember suddenly once we I'm all grown and he stops posting. Just start binge watching his videos some random night for nostalgia and comfort when the world feels too much as an escape. He is and will always be my comfort youtuber.
My theory/understanding is that Embry killed their parents and didn't want to face that fact. They kept pretending that it was monsters, but it was the side of themself that was the monster for killing them. The other characters don't have faces (even the doctor wears a mask), making Embry feel like someone completely different from the others. The sounds were their conscience or induced psychosis from the guilt. Also the reason why they couldn't actually seek help, because deep down they knew they were the killer and would get in trouble for it. The key not being where they had initially put it might lend to missing memories as a way of protecting themselves, or a split personality, or something similar to Heavy Rain where the character has patches of memory loss (due to grief). Well... that's my theory anyway.
a game i would recommend you playing on the channel is called “omori”. its a type of game that looks friendly and cute but its gets darker throughout the game. its a long game but its worth the time

What I think happened is that Embry parents did die and they either got pushed down the stairs by Embry or they accidentally fell down. And the doctor never existed and the blood seen from under the door is the blood of the parents and what you said at the end about Embry feeding the monster so they feels normal, I think they do it because they blames themselves and that why they have weird dreams and encounters with her parents, and when the monster becomes Embry, they becomes really upset, so towards the end when you have the option to go back to bed or go to the basement, and when you go to the basement and Embry see themselves that is what they thinks of themselves as a monster, because the monster blames Embry through out the game and trys to get them to open the door and finally towards the end when they says "this has gone on for long enough," and then they enters the basement I'm think they ends there life because they have gone through to much pain and just wants it to stop. That is what I think anyway.
So I have 2 conspiaries. 1. After emberys parents died, they didnt die from monsters, but screaming as they fell down those stairs and it banging down the stairs. All of emberys hobbies revolved around her parents. So, she created a false-reality for herself. The real her was in the basement, continuously restarting the cycle, as though finding out the truth that it wasent JUST her messed with the false reality so she would reset it. Her hobbies were now feeding herself in the basement, So that she 1. Had a hobby, 2. Kept alive herself. and 3. Countined the cycle. 2. Her real self, which was in the basement was the real her. She felt the blame for her parent death. so she decided. since a child couldnt go to prison, she would fix the problem herself. and torture herself. when her parents die it was really just herself eating them over and over to make herself suffer day by day being terrifed. and sooner or later she enjoyed the feeling of being scared. so she needed more food so that the other embery would be mortified.
I would like to see Jay play OMORI I feel that the game is right up his alley and that he will enjoy it. And I'm sure he's going to love the characters. Having a good laugh and enjoying the moments in it. He did say he likes games that "doesn't look what it seems".

My theroy for this game is that Embry is in a mental hospital. Here me out right? They goes to the market to get things, which means exiting the hospital. Sometimes they let people out for fresh air in a safe place near the facility. What if they have schizaphrena and the "basement" is actually a trash can where Embry throws their food away. Docter D. light may be a theropist for Embry and Embry trying to get out of this situation, pushes the doctor away, thinking if they do this, Embry can finally be alone

this game is amazing! But my theory is that they has schizophrenia, and the cause of there parents being gone has made it worst. The main reason i think this is cause she was hearing voices from her parents that weren’t actually them. And the doctor was there trying to help them with there schizophrenia by going into the basement and proving them its in there mind, but he ended up falling and the blood was probably from the impact of the stairs. But in there mind they thought the monster took ate him. thats just my theory

I think Embry has Multiple Personality Disorder and/or dissociative personality disorder which is why they have memory problems. I think You’re is the second personality, the killer side of them and when Embry pushed the doctor it was You’re switching places with Embry which is why there is a dark screen and blood. Embry can’t recall anything that You’re does. I think the doctor cutscene is Embry struggling to figure out which personality they are so that’s why they lock themselves in the basement at the end.
For visualization, think Toko Fukawa and Genocider(if that helps clarify)
While I haven't heard of this game myself, seeing RPG Maker stuff reminds me of the good old days.

I saw a comment saying that maybe this game is a metaphor of Embry going through depression and it got me thinking. I think the part where Embry was suprised to find the key on a toy box was a metaphor of how she didn't realise that her depression rooted/started from her childhood. My mind was translating "the key to the door was in a toy box" into "the key to her depression was in her childhood". Ehhh sorry if I'm wrong, I just thought of it😅

My theory/understanding is that Embry killed their parents and didn't want to face that fact. They kept pretending that it was monsters, but it was the side of themself that was the monster for killing them. The other characters don't have faces (even the doctor wears a mask), making Embry feel like someone completely different from the others. The sounds were their conscience or induced psychosis from the guilt. Also the reason why they couldn't actually seek help, because deep down they knew they were the killer and would get in trouble for it. The key not being where they had initially put it might lend to missing memories as a way of protecting themselves, or a split personality, or something similar to Heavy Rain where the character has patches of memory loss (due to grief). Well... that's my theory anyway.

What I think happened is that Embry parents did die and they either got pushed down the stairs by Embry or they accidentally fell down. And the doctor never existed and the blood seen from under the door is the blood of the parents and what you said at the end about Embry feeding the monster so they feels normal, I think they do it because they blames themselves and that why they have weird dreams and encounters with her parents, and when the monster becomes Embry, they becomes really upset, so towards the end when you have the option to go back to bed or go to the basement, and when you go to the basement and Embry see themselves that is what they thinks of themselves as a monster, because the monster blames Embry through out the game and trys to get them to open the door and finally towards the end when they says "this has gone on for long enough," and then they enters the basement I'm think they ends there life because they have gone through to much pain and just wants it to stop. That is what I think anyway.

So I have 2 conspiaries.
1. After emberys parents died, they didnt die from monsters, but screaming as they fell down those stairs and it banging down the stairs. All of emberys hobbies revolved around her parents. So, she created a false-reality for herself. The real her was in the basement, continuously restarting the cycle, as though finding out the truth that it wasent JUST her messed with the false reality so she would reset it. Her hobbies were now feeding herself in the basement, So that she 1. Had a hobby, 2. Kept alive herself. and 3. Countined the cycle.
2. Her real self, which was in the basement was the real her. She felt the blame for her parent death. so she decided. since a child couldnt go to prison, she would fix the problem herself. and torture herself. when her parents die it was really just herself eating them over and over to make herself suffer day by day being terrifed. and sooner or later she enjoyed the feeling of being scared. so she needed more food so that the other embery would be mortified.
