Yep Liana died, her dad put her consciousness into an Ai robot, and her mom keeps asking her to do all these bizarre tasks to see if the robot is nothing but artificial intelligence or their actual daughter. At first the robot was just doing whatever she told it to do, like sleeping outside on the ground...but their daughter eventually overrode the ai and the real Liana came out.
According to the ending, that's wrong. It was made explicitly clear that 'Loans' didn't exist as herself anymore, the voice said so. And the information also showed that once the robot reaches %100 contamination, it becomes entirely self aware and sentient, as noted by the dad not wanting to be a murderer. And he specifically says at the end that you are not her, and so you need a name for yourself.

I think the mention of the mother being a "mannequin" early on is what makes the game eerily charming. It keeps you from thinking that you may actually be the "mannequin" just like how the "mother" tells you later on - "I can only assume that the way I appear to you, is just as unnatural as you appear to me" and how Liana constantly questions what the player or the body is doing considering that Liana is just in the core but not the body. We only get to see the game from the body of the mannequin / robot Liana is part of, who knows what we look like to the mother from her reality.

now THIS is a good game. genuinely gets more unsettling as it progresses, especially when you and and the environment start to malfunction. needless to say, the mother was unsettling too of course. unlike the other "scary" games Jay played that are just cheap jumpscare after cheap jumpscare, this one actually has a good story that terrified me once i caught up to what's going on, and i absolutely love it. plus, Jay's humor and hilarious reactions were an entertaining addition. hopefully he plays The Enigma Machine too in the future, which is the prequel, i believe, to this game? anyways, you're always that dude, Jay!

Without knowing the girl was a robot, I thought this was a sad story about forgetting your family. The way we as the girl never saw the dad, and only saw the mother as some strange mannequin, unfamiliar. I thought this was a sad story about the mother.
this is one of those psychological horror games that don't necessarily need a lot of 'scares' to put you on the edge. The first part was just as freaky because you don't know what's going to happen, and that you're questioning whether 'Mother' is the villain of the story or not. Little by little, it started to make sense, and all our expectations were completely turned.
Dang, I never expected the story to make a twist, and now I can't help but feel sympathy for the parents. it proves that both of them wanted to 'save' what is left of their 'angel'.
But the part with sleeping in a room with someone you can't even see... that shit made my hair at the back of my neck rise up

so i think liana, their daughter died too young and the dad really wanted her back so he uploaded her conciousness or memories or whatever into this machine to try and bring her back but the machine is overriding liana’s soul or something and she can’t communicate. everytime the machine had shown no sign of liana and the father kept trying with more prototypes to try and bring her back. as for the mother i think it was her job to keep the machine in check and record any signs of liana. im not entirely sure tho

Not really wholesome when you realize that he doesn't actually accept she's gone (if he did he wouldn't have tried putting her soul into a robot to begin with) and just started projecting her onto the android/daughter mashup. Many find it unsettling/creepy to look at, hence why the mother looks unsettling. The more is looks like an actual human being but you are aware that it isn't, its called the Uncanny Valley.

Ngl, the first day, I knew something was actually up with the daughter instead because honestly, it sounded like the daughter tried to commit suicide and the mother was deathly afraid of her trying again. To me, it explained not being able to go to the downstairs bathroom (out of supervision), the tape up mirror (first thought it was a medicine cabinet and they taped it up to avoid letting Liana hurting herself again, but the tape can also be seen as a way to get her to stop looking at herself bc maybe she did a lot of damage to herself and it could lead to a self spiral), and "time skips" (damage to the brain can lead to a loss of track of time.) Also seeing mother as a mannequin is very telling. People who have damage to their brain can see emotions as very alien like and unnatural. Mother being scared and detached yet clingy makes a lot of sense in coping/grief.
So you ended up being kinda right but for the entirely wrong reasons.

This is honestly one of those games I think I’m gonna remember for a long time. This was art. It’s unsettling, uncanny, it unlocks a primal discomfort. Most of all, it had a deep story. I wasn’t expecting such a hard hitting ending from this game.
The "be with mother" part must be how my mom felt when I followed her around when I was young. (Maybe not the scared and fearing for her life part, more annoyed that her child was 2 inches away at all times) I was so anxious bc I was introduced to social media too quickly and thought the world was gonna end so I just stuck to her all the time. I forgot the point of this comment but I like this game

Low-key the character you play as (Liana) reminds me a lot of Penny from kindergarten 2 if anyone remembers her. She was the robot girl aka the principals daughter who spoiler alert was the mastermind behind the whole game. Penny's mother was also a scientist kinda like Liana's father who works with technology. When Penny got severely injured from one of her mother's sick creations she got put back together as a robot like Liana. Being able to slightly remember things from her previous lives like her dolly which is a key memory. Poor thing just wants to be a good person and to be with her mother which is Liana's main objective.

This game takes part in the "Nightmare Scenario" which is the Abscence of information. You don't know what's happening, or where you are. It is human instinct to make us feel uneasy.
This also connects to fear in general. Fear is often caused by the effect. The fear of being penalized. Jay states many times he fears that something is going to happen, but nothing doesn't. Which makes us tense up for a jumpscares or something!
