I saw Anderson, with Andy Cohen, in an appearance in the Saenger Theater in New Orleans several years ago ... they just sat on the stage, fascinated all of us with their stories, and (both) proceeded to get QUITE drunk. They had brought a bottle (can't remember exactly what, but it was definitely "hard" liquor, as we say in the South) .. and they were hilarious. He DOES tend to slur a little after a while. (It was fascinating.) They were drinking what they had brought on stage (got a new bottle at intermission), and some party in the front row kept bringing them both glasses of champagne all through the talk. A good time was had by all. (After a few belts, Anderson CANNOT pronounce "Mississippi.")
I stopped drinking over 20 years ago when I graduated college. And unlike any other skills that I've learned, drinking is not something that comes back easily. I allowed myself a "toast" drink to celebrate a friend's wedding anniversary, and my reaction to whatever it was they served me was pretty much like Anderson's here.
