Pat Travers is one of the most under-rated guitar players in history. If anyone hasn't heard him before you really need to check him out. Great performance Paul (as always!).
Everyone who is familiar with Paul’s guitar work knows he’s one of the best players ever, but that bass player was rippin hard and the drummer is a beast. What a talented trio.
Pat Travers is still touring and always awesome. You can see what guitar greats would be like if they had lived longer by seeing Travers live now. Great cover version
I love Paul Gilbert, he just jams his heart out with zero shame and always is very respectful towards anyone he covers. Just a phenomenal player and person as well, great sense of humor.
He has to be one of the cleanest pickers in the game. Each note is so pronounced, even when he's flying up and down the fretboard. And don't even get me started on his phrasing...impeccable.
Paul Gilbert is amazing. One of the best guitarists on the planet, and yet so down to Earth, and humble. He seems like he would be totally cool to meet in real life. Maybe someday at a clinic...
Paul does have a trebly tone but it's great on the leads. I am a drummer but he is one of my fave guitarists. His phrasing is absolutely perfect and so completely musical. He has the ability to be incredibly flashy without taking away from or stepping on the song. amazing.
Such a great guitarist. I was at MI same year he was. One day, a bunch of us was passing these small practice rooms there and gosh darn, we heard some unbelievable ripping. It was light years ahead of all of us. We peeked in the door window and there he was, sitting there in his farmer overalls and just wailing on that guitar. We all knew then that we weren’t ever going to be that fast and ripping (lol) and that he was going to make it. Kudos Paul!
A humble man needs no introduction he inspires others to become better then himself, and can stand toe to toe with the very best ,and one day will be considered one of the great master class guitar players of all times who will leave memories and his seed of wisdom around the world! (xlr8) lead singer/song writer
Pat Travers music Rocks! Paul picked a good one to do! You young guitar player out there need to listen to Pat Travers and grab some goodies on how to rock cause the PT band kicks ass! Putting is straight and Heat in the street are excellent starts!
You're right about that younger players should pay attention I open for Pat Travers in Rothbury Michigan in 2010 and he kicked ass then I've seen him in Denver several times also Great Bend and great remake way to go Paul
Hot playing all around. Paul is always incendiary. Craig Martini and Jeff Bowders form one of the best rhythm teams in the biz - why else would Paul work with them? Besides being incredible players, all three are super-nice in person, which IMO is the most important quality of all.
Paul Gilbert is really one of the best rock guitar player nowadays ! You can recognize him as soon as you hear one single note of him. He doesn't play like all those shredders, he has his own identity. That is how you recognize a great guitar player.
My brother and I play guitar and bass in a band and he asks me what makes Gilbert so good. Economy of motion in his right hand and probably the fastest left-hand pinky in the world. And of course about ten bazillion hours of practice. One of the best players in the entire world.
What a great cover of a classic hard rock song. Paul is an incredible player as always, but the drummer is a beast, and when the lead solo started, the bass player was ripping on that bass. What an awesome trio of talented musicians.
Saw that concert in Canada. For some reason, I remember just before Ritchie would play a solo, a heckler would yell out, "Hey Ritchie, why don't you play a solo?!?!" He actually noticed him during a quiet part in Mistreated. 😀
Dude I was at the same show, 1st concert also! Got free tickets for being employee of the month at the Canyon Inn in Redwood City. Then saw him 2 years later with Aerosmith at the Oakland Coliseum.
cool to see Paul cover this Pat Travers tune which was one I cut my teeth on back in the day one rickin tune and Paul does honer to it pat would be pleased.
im learning this song but it want be played like that lol.wow paul is such a talent.ill try to steal a few parts here and there but amazing job mr.gilbert
Can't believe there are some negative comments on here. Just lighten up, open up, and listen to a great guitarist bare his soul. Have some fun in life.
I had never heard Phil X. I didn't care for his version of Snortin Whiskey, although I did like his take on Hotel California. Thanks for turning me on to him!
haha! Just saw Jeff last night at my show (although he was there to see Ray Luzier and Billy Sheehan). He's such a cool dude...said that Paul is coming out with a new album and he's on it. Looking forward to hearing it!
Great song! I once heard a story by Pat Travers regarding this song. They were in the studio and the drummer (tommy aldridge) was late and when he arrived they asked him where he'd been? and he simply replied, I've been Snortin Whiskey,.........
I have an old National that is similar in how the preamp is wired. The Marshall preamp design is very much the same, and I can easily design an amp with 2,3,4, or as many filtered overdrives as anyone wants within reason. We used to play these 100 watt Marshalls dimed out back in my day and line the walls of the garage or basement with mattresses and acoustic foam squares and we still were too loud for most of our neighbors. I used earplugs religiously, and can still hear up to 17KHz.
I appreciate any artist that gives Pat Travers props. A tribute from Paul Gilbert is HIGH PRAISE!
Pat Travers is one of the most under-rated guitar players in history. If anyone hasn't heard him before you really need to check him out. Great performance Paul (as always!).
Remember that during that period Pat Thrall was doing a lot of his guitar work.
@@pumasgoyaTravers is a great rhythm player.
Everyone who is familiar with Paul’s guitar work knows he’s one of the best players ever, but that bass player was rippin hard and the drummer is a beast. What a talented trio.
Yeah, it's kinda hard to shine when your singer is rippin it up like Paul Gilbert does.
anyone that can keep up with Paul has his Sh t together for sure....
Love Gilbert's passion for Pat. It's great!
Can't help but love Paul Gilbert. So much talent, but he always looks like the whole point is to just have fun.
what a great concept. should be this way....
Couldn't agree more.
@@ledzeppelin4195 Nah rock should be about being a drugged up entitled prick. ;)
Isn't it? The point?`
That is exactly the whole point !!! Lol
Paul Gilbert just keeps getting better and better. He can shred he can play melodic, blues and it is cool to hear his spin on these great songs.
He did an awesome job of covering a TWO guitar song.
Pat has been playing this for decades one guitar - as did I. the song can have either 1 or two guitars.
@@BluesLicks101 I’m working this one up now. Gotta have a very tight rhythm section to pull it off with a Trio, fo sho
Pat Travers is still touring and always awesome. You can see what guitar greats would be like if they had lived longer by seeing Travers live now. Great cover version
One of the most rocking songs ever recorded
I love Paul Gilbert, he just jams his heart out with zero shame and always is very respectful towards anyone he covers. Just a phenomenal player and person as well, great sense of humor.
Paul Gilbert just has to be ranked right up there with the best of all time. He is flawless!!!!!!!!!
He has to be one of the cleanest pickers in the game. Each note is so pronounced, even when he's flying up and down the fretboard. And don't even get me started on his phrasing...impeccable.
@@ronwilliams1094 and that pinky finger. No wonder he can shred those hard places
Great shit! That bass and drummer were right on point!
Very well executed by them 3 boys! Awesome!
Best Thrall travers cover ever wow
Give that drummer a little love too. Covering Tommy Aldridge is daunting. Many try, most fail. This guy nails it. Super impressed.
My dad used to jam with Pat Travers (creator of this song)
Give him my salute cause somewhere and somehow surely your dad's influence got mixed up with that of pat's and made this song.
I have one of Tommy Aldridge's drumsticks.
Man.............Every time I see this guy - he makes it look so easy. What a player!
he really is a great guitarist and nice guy.
timing is so correct amazing
paul is the wizard. learn so much by listening and watching him handle his guitar.
His phrasing is awesome.
Love it. I remember this tune blasting the airwaves as a kid, and man does Paul rip it up here.
This is absolutely KILLER!!! What a thrill to stumble on this!!!
I could listen to Paul play all day...he's ridiculously good.
Oh yeah! Pat Travers. Snorting whiskey. Drinking cocaine. Brings back great memories.....although I've forgotten most of them.
Paul Gilbert is amazing. One of the best guitarists on the planet, and yet so down to Earth, and humble. He seems like he would be totally cool to meet in real life. Maybe someday at a clinic...
That guy can sing anything and play ANYTHING!
My favourite guitar virtuoso, by a country mile!
Paul does have a trebly tone but it's great on the leads. I am a drummer but he is one of my fave guitarists. His phrasing is absolutely perfect and so completely musical. He has the ability to be incredibly flashy without taking away from or stepping on the song. amazing.
Paul is so simple and seems so friendly. Everytime I hear him talk I just want to be his friend. What an extraordinary talented musician.
Awesome - Paul is still kickin´ass! ThX a lot for this experience!
Absolutely killer of a song!!!!!!!!!!!!
The vibe of his playing is just unreal ...gilbert rules 🤟
I like how you can hear and see how he loves music so much! Hes great!

One of the best rock and roll tunes EVER. Gilbert does Travers justice in this one ;)
Leaving it all out there, beast!! Can't play this unless I try emulate Tommy. Essential.
Pat Travers + Paul Gilbert = Guitar Heaven
Paul Gilbert is really one of the best rock guitar player nowadays ! You can recognize him as soon as you hear one single note of him. He doesn't play like all those shredders, he has his own identity. That is how you recognize a great guitar player.
Ok. That is a bad ass cover!!!! Awesome!!!!
Paul Gilbert is a musician’s musician. He loves and knows all the greats just like the fans who aren’t musicians. Amazing stuff.
First time i heard him sing, he's AWESOME AT IT! And the guitar, i
Bad ass!!! That drummer kicks ass, too.
What an incredible Guitarist... My top 5
Hell yeah!!! That was awesome.
Paul....You brought me alive once again!
Paul Gilbert was a natural progression from Pat Travers as the 70s turned into the 80s but Travers still has my ears & loyalty as does Gilbert
Great song to learn in the key of A. Love Paul's playing it too.
I fucking love the bass in this!! What a great song!! And such a fun song to play! Gilbert kicks ass!!
My brother and I play guitar and bass in a band and he asks me what makes Gilbert so good. Economy of motion in his right hand and probably the fastest left-hand pinky in the world. And of course about ten bazillion hours of practice. One of the best players in the entire world.
the first lick of the first solo sounds AMAZING
Love This! Gilbert has inspired me for literally 30 years....
Gotta love a man who knows his tone

Probably saw same tour but had Krokus as the opener. Flint MI April 1981 Great show!!

Absolutely Great🤘
awesome tune performed in an awesome manner
Hey...excellent cover! 🎶🎸😎
Best tone I've heard from PG. I just bought a Marshall Vintage Modern though, so maybe I'm biased.
Pat Travers OWNS this tune... but Paul Gilbert gives it justice too! JP-USA
lauratwo16 Perfectly said lauratwo16
gilberts musical background and tech abilities blows travers away
If he hasn't heard it, Mr. Traver's would be proud. Cheers & Peace .

Paul Gilbert is a f-ing wizard!!!
Damn good performance, respectful of the original yet Paul put his mark on it.
It's Pat's song and respect!! But Paul Gilbert is God on guitar!! He brings this tune to life!!! Resurrected!!! yes!!

Mr Gilbert, showing us the importance of singing with the guitar
love this tune ...love Pauly G's playing ..over the top, just like Rock and Roll should be. :P

Incredible! Nuff said!
I would really like to hear paul cover this song today.
Yes Drummer and bassist kickin ass for sure
Rhythm section is tight!
man they slayed it!!!!!!!
I think Paul Gilbert is the most friendly and down to earth master guitarist in the music circuit.
And the funniest too. He once pulled out a rabbit from behind his guitar and called it one of his "guitar tricks" LOL
Jaw dropping awesome
I love Pat Travers, the only thing better is my favorite guitarist Paul Gilbert playing Pat Travers. Bad Ass
