    Sick playing on those 70s style low frets, I can't do that. No wonder Yngwie scalloped his necks coming from that era 😂

    As a young guitar player in my early teens, I used to think shredding solos were the coolest thing ever. Now, in my mid 40's, I hate it, but I do appreciate a smooth, articulate, and musical player though. Nice playing and thanks for the comparison.

    Have/had the stock....have guitar with 3 HS-3's and it kills, really piano like cleans and the gain sounds are minus the hum with no unwanted noise, really cuts through the mix. Very versatile, you can get many useful sounds for different styles

    If using stock pups for metal, you REALLY need that Noise Gate pedal.

  • @jeffallan3761

    The stock pickups really have more punch and highs, just a fuller sound, too bad the noise. On the high gain, it sounds great, till you stop. I just roll down the volume to kill that noise. The HS3 are just flat/dull and not nearly as much punch and dynamic field but no noise. It's give and take like everything.

    you sound like a computer, but thats cool, each to their own, but this is why when malmsteen plays this sort of thing it sounds full of heart, can not be replicated, after 11 years of aging this video shows it even clearer.

    For a comparison it was all over the place switching pickups stomping pedals no specs on the pickups

  • @OliverLukacs-XXL
    @OliverLukacs-XXL  11 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    Yes, that was exactly my impression as well. You just have to ask yourself if hum is worth 70 quid to you. It sure was to me as the amount of hum was killing me :)

  • @OliverLukacs-XXL
    @OliverLukacs-XXL  11 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Yeah, sorry, the first minute is more like an intro to the whole thing and the neck pickup was used, which is a DiMarzio YJM (now called HS-4 I think)

  • @CalinRo1981
    @CalinRo1981 9 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Hi Oliver ! I saw in this vid that the HS3 is a very good sounding pickup and less noise versus the Fender vintage pickup in the bridge position . But what can you tell us about the neck position , i mean if between the DiMarzio YJM (HS4) and tfe Fender vintage stock pickup is same difference in tone , or the difference is not so obvious like in the bridge position .

    • @iplayloud2
      @iplayloud2 8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I own both and HS-3 are definitely darker sounding (less treble). For distortion they are cool cause they cancel hum but the spanking clean strat tone is not like real single coils. You should check the Areas from Dimarzio. Much more modern design. Real strat tone and noise cancellation..

  • @jeffallan3761
    @jeffallan3761 11 ปีที่แล้ว

    Well this is better because yo want to hear the difference with SAME guitars. Try to limit all variables. This was a good comparison.

    I don't know but somehow HS-3 lacks some low end, mids and trebles are much tighter in HS-3

    @MaikiStarwood 11 ปีที่แล้ว

    Nice Malmsteen style runs, however it would be better if U had them in 2 separate guitars so U can compare them in the same positions. Neck vs neck, middle vs middle, bridge vs bridge, etc. (Had no idea there were so many Yngwie Malmsteen clones.)

    • @OliverLukacs-XXL
      @OliverLukacs-XXL  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The first 45 seconds is neck pickup (also replaced to HS-4, formerly known as YJM. Should have made that more clear, sorry). Bridge pickup (HS-3) follows after that.

I like YM a lot although I'm more into Ritchie .. but in this particulat guitar I'm improving I'd like to sound like you do from 0.04 to 0.43 .. that sounds awesome and with engl amp .. that's fantastic .. cheers

    • @christianboddum8783
      @christianboddum8783 10 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi, I'll just jump in and recommend the HS-2 for neck and mid. DiMarzio made the HS-3 to calibrate with the HS-2s.
      I love HS-2s but in the bridge they are sharp, which can be fine with hi-gain, the cut is incredible (think Rory gallagher), but the HS-3 is probably more pleasing overall. I tried other virtual vintages but I keep coming back to the HS-2 even if they are quite low in output. FWIW

    Just a question, when using stock pickups with a noise gate, will the additional noise from non noiseless single coils affect the performance of the gate in any kind of way?

    • @OliverLukacs-XXL
      @OliverLukacs-XXL  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Jojo, the more noise, the less effective the noise gate in my experience. I would always aim for a tone that requires the least amount of noise gate because if the noise gate has to work hard, it will inevitably 'suck' out some of the essential parts of the tone itself as well if that makes sense. Simply put, the higher you turn up the noise gate, the shittier your tone becomes. Let me know if that answers your question.

    • @hobo_jojo
      @hobo_jojo 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@OliverLukacs-XXL Thanks a lot! Don't currently have a noise gate, nor noiseless single coils which I hope I can fix this year haha

  • @WScustomshop
    @WScustomshop 10 ปีที่แล้ว

    The conclusion here is that DiMarzio has pickups that sounds almost like 70's Fender's but with no hum and on top of that, with the HS-3s harmonics come out easier and cleaner. In your case mate, you have to check your wiring as HS-3 don't have that much noise even with the overdrive up to 11. (OK they have just a little, but not that much).

    • @OliverLukacs-XXL
      @OliverLukacs-XXL  10 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Put the DOD Yjm in the chain and no matter how good your wiring is, they will be that noisy lol

    • @WScustomshop
      @WScustomshop 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Oliver Lukacs Hahaha, yep this is true. DOD YJM has a lot of noise, nothing to do with the old DODs. The YJM uses the 4558 IC where for me is one of the worst ICs for ODs no matter what TS' fans say 'bout it. LM741 Rules!!!!!

  • @kennyken7278
    @kennyken7278 9 ปีที่แล้ว

    Amp sims like TH2 or Amplitube 3 (if you use them) actually negates any advantage the DiMarzio has....I have 2 DiMarzio guitars (Crunch Lab and Super Distortion) and 2 guitars that has pure stock humbuckers in them, honestly If someone blind tests me, I can never the difference! I hated stock pickups in the past, but since the difference is so minimal to negligible, why bother spending an extra $70-$100 ? Oh times are a changing

    from the body and pickguard shape - i´d say that is not an original fender body

    • @OliverLukacs-XXL
      @OliverLukacs-XXL  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      It’s original Fender, but a 70’s reissue. So not an original 70’s, but still Fender.

    • @modestoney1577
      @modestoney1577 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      did you buy it new? The body - at least in this video - really looks different to every other 70´s reissue by Fender i´ve ever seen.There´s almost no contour to the Body around the edges, which is absolutely unusual. It looks as if the top at the horns has no roundings, almost like a flat top with sharp edges.

    • @OliverLukacs-XXL

    • @rustyshackleford4743
      @rustyshackleford4743 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I use 250k pots for the HS-3's in my Strat. There are differing opinions, but most people prefer 250k for strats even with HS-3's. Using a 500k adds more noise when using overdrive.
