Went over Vincent Thomas bridge numerous times when I was stationed at the US Naval Station on the USS Hollister (DD-788). Now the naval station and adjacent shipyard are a huge container yard. Only the Navy mole still reminds me of the area in the late 1970s. PS - only the Titan, better known by nickname Herman the German (US Navy designation YD-171), a large floating crane currently serving in the Panama Canal performing heavy lifts for lock maintenance survives from the US Naval Shipyard PS2 - looking forward to going to the new Ports of Call.
Remember it well! Used to have to service a couple of emergency water pumps & gensets in San Pedro area, then hit up Busy Bee Market @ 24th & Walker for one of the best hot sandwiches in Los Angeles area! Never had to go over to Terminal Island for any reason but the bridge is part of the area skyline. Interesting stuff, thanks for a great video, Robert!
Thank you for this video. I love traveling over the bridge.
Glad you enjoyed it, it was a fun journey learning about its history and construction

Thank you for sharing and your service in the U.S. Navy. I recall photographs of Herman the German, glad it is still in service in the Canal zone.
I love the mix of history and current events. The details added to the whole story
Why thank you, I was wondering if I should have reversed the order so not to confuse viewers with modern events in the beginning
