Coming from Seattle, Tacoma never lived up to its name for me. Everyone gave it a name of being ghetto, scary, dirty... But when I actually went there it was beautiful. It has this strange feeling like its not trying to be anything spectacular, but its mine. Its home.

+LakeCaldera Go south of the dome. THAT'S the shady part of town. I have an uncle who lives on the south side (i don't actually live in Tacoma, i just stayed with him a couple times on visits). It was worse than some of the places in Spokane where i live. Boarded up houses, smelled horrible, shady characters, etc. Downtown is great, south side is bad, and that's just coming from a tourist of four visits.

Im born and raised in South Tacoma. I've been robbed, my block has been shot up twice, my brother has been jumped, and I've had my car stolen. I'd bet if nothing happened to you or someone you know then you lived it up in Stadium District or North Tacoma.

Thank you so much for a very beautiful montage of my hometown. Born at Tacoma General, I've never strayed far. My sadness, though, is that except for the downtown scenes and the western waterfront, it appears that Tacoma stops at 6th Avenue. No Lincoln District, no historic Fern Hill, Larchmont, Manitou, South Tacoma.

Thank you for making me cry. I have watched this twenty times today. I saw my kids school Stadium, where my daughter works Jazzbones, where my other daughter had her wedding reception the Museum of Glass, MSM we lived just down the street .......I could go on and on. I am so home sick But thank you it felt good to be home sick.

I never understood why there's so many differences between Spokane and Tacoma, which are pretty much twin cities in a lot of ways.
    1. Tacoma has SUCH a complex highway system. Interchanges, overpasses, everything. In Spokane, we have 1-90 with on-ramps all in a row going east-west. That's it. I get Tacoma is pretty busy, what with all the thru-fare of Seattle and all, but good lord you can get lost so easily.
    2. Why are parts of the city so run down? I have an uncle who lives on the southern side of town, and it was bad. Boarded up houses, it smelled, shady characters, etc. It scared me. In Spokane, the closest thing we have to that is Hillyard, but even it's not that bad.
    3. Why is downtown Tacoma SO MUCH BIGGER than downtown Spokane? It just doesn't make sense to me because Spokane is such an important economic and cultural center for a gigantic region. Seattle's only what, 25 miles north? I just don't get it.

    • @Rudenbehr
      @Rudenbehr 7 ปีที่แล้ว

Jordan Wolfson Tacoma is an industrial trading port. If you know about industrialization, people will want to live very close to the jobs and factories which Tacoma is historically known for. The city also has some history in the railroad industry, being the destination of the transcontinental railroad, so density therefore was focused around that system of transportation back then when cars were few. I don't really know much about Spokane except that it's a Republican, mid western type, Anglo Saxon majority town, and that those kinds of communities don't desire dense places (can't park your lifted pickup truck on a small road beside a large apartment building .)

Tacoma used to be a great little city. But it has become too infested with crime it never had before. Criminals hide out here because they had to get away from the past of crime they left behind in California or Oregon. They want a new start. But they can not seem to change their criminal minds. And they either cannot stand the weather up here in the northwest. And so they go back to the sunny banana belt were they were running from hoping things about them have cooled down. Nice video. I understand why it was made. To attract business to come set up camp here. Because 33% have jobs. And the other 67% are on welfare or assistance. So they need this video to bring business here so they pay to keep the city going. I lived there 22 years. Left and came 4 times. But I cannot deal with the crime and poverty anymore. Too many times having my car broke into. Like 7 times in 22 years. Too many times I have had crimes committed against my property and belongings. I gave up. I realised it had changed from what it once was. To a den of thieves. It has become known as TA-COMPTON. Much like the name Sea-Tac. Seattle-Tacoma. TA-COMPTON Tacoma- Compton California. Always having to watch your back. I have never been happier or wealthier until I moved away. Housing is always cheaper in Tacoma. But it is much like the ghetto. Rents and mortgages are cheaper in the ghetto. But the scum you have to live around makes it just not worth it.

In case you don't already know, you should be aware that the Tacoma area has a terrible public disturbance noise problem. I am mainly referring to the following: 1) Loud subwoofer thumping noises that are blasted through walls and into homes by vehicles and can be heard for several blocks. 2) Loud exhaust noises from vehicles with mufflers removed or with loud "sport" mufflers. 3) Loud sound systems playing inside homes that can be heard inside homes that are many houses away. 4) Fireworks exploded any random time, day or night, 365 days a year, even when no holiday is near. The people doing this are intentionally trying to harass and menace everybody in the community! This is criminal behavior and there is a serious lack of enforcement of the Pierce County Code Chapter 8.72. Loud subwoofers heard from 50+ feet away are illegal. Unmuffled or loud vehicle exhausts, are misdemeanor crimes. The law is very clear and explicit here. The residents of Pierce County do not have to accept this criminality! Please read the law and contact government officials, including law enforcement, and demand that the law be enforced! Loud low-frequency thumping in particular causes violent and explosive emotions in people. There have been many violent incidents and even killings, occurring here and around the nation, that were touched off by loud music being forced into people's homes. No wonder decent people do not want to move here, crime is high, property values are low, and criminals figure if they can get away with public disturbance, they can get away with any other crime. We do not have to accept this constant disturbance of the peace. It is illegal! The quality of life will remain low here until the residents do something about this.
Clips from the current version (2016/2017) of the Pierce County Code Chapter 8.72:
Chapter 8.72 MOTOR VEHICLE, PUBLIC DISTURBANCE, AND PUBLIC NUISANCE NOISE
8.72.040 Mufflers. It is unlawful for any person to operate, or for any owner to permit any person to operate, any motor vehicle or motorcycle upon the public highways which is not equipped with a muffler in good working order and in constant operation.
8.72.070 Exhaust System. It shall be unlawful for any person to operate any motor vehicle upon any public highway if the vehicle exhaust system exceeds the maximum permissible sound levels set forth below for the category of vehicle, as measured at a distance of twenty inches (0.5 meter) from the exhaust outlet under procedures established by the State of Washington in Washington Administrative Code Chapter 173-58-080, "Close Proximity Exhaust System Sound Level Measurement Procedure." Motorcycles 99 dB(A)/Automobiles, light trucks, and all other motor vehicles 10,000 pounds or less 95 dB(A).
8.72.090 Public Disturbance Noises. It is unlawful for any person to cause, or for any person in possession of property to allow to originate from the property, a public disturbance noise. The following sounds are public disturbance noises:...
    C. Frequent, repetitive, or continuous sounds from starting, operating, repairing, rebuilding, or testing of any motor vehicle, motorcycle, dirt bike, or other off-highway vehicle, or any internal combustion engine, within a rural or residential district, including vacant property adjacent thereto, so as to unreasonably disturb or interfere with the peace, comfort, and repose of owners or possessors of real property...
    F. Any loud and raucous sound made by use of a musical instrument, whistle, sound amplifier, or other device capable of producing or reproducing sound which emanates frequently, repetitively, or continuously from any building, structure or property, such as sound originating from a band session, tavern operation, or social gathering and which unreasonably disturb or interfere with the peace, comfort, and repose of owners or possessors of real property in the area affected by such noise...
    H. Public disturbance noise from portable or motor vehicle audio equipment: While in park areas, residential or commercial zones, or any area where residences, schools, human service facilities, or commercial establishments are in obvious proximity to the source of the sound, it is unlawful for any person to negligently cause, make, or allow to be made from audio equipment under such person's control or ownership the following:

I know. I am hoping to move at the end of the month. These creeps do burnouts with donk cars and motorcycles in a residential neighborhood with kids walking around. They are intentionally menacing and trying to drive people away, but how can Parkland and south Tacoma exist economically if everybody leaves except the criminals? The war drum pounding (subwoofers and gangster rap) is to remind anyone normal or decent that they consider there to be a constant state of war, as to say "leave or we will kill you".

I already moved out of Parkland. But what is your point? I've been to Gig Harbor many times and it seems like an okay area.
