@@wortheffort Yep! Or do the rant first THEN do a "1 hour earlier" where you went over WHY it was such a danger/PITA. Liked the video though. Gave me a whole new respect for a pellet gun!
We’ve all tried to use a hand plane or chisel or even a crappy table saw or bandsaw with the same frustration. Thanks for teaching us to know the difference.
Well done! I think you exacted revenge on behalf of many of us. I grew up with power tools and learned the hard way that the cheaper planes were not all they're cracked up to be. Luckily for me, I had an old Stanley #8 (of all things) that worked as sort of a benchmark of how a plane should perform. It's been a few years now, and my experience and understanding has improved to the point that I have either got them working or repurposed them.
Thank you! I remember my first plane was one of these. Frustration isn't the word and yeh, I thought I was the problem! What did I know?! Yeh, it could have easily discouraged me! Thankfully there's woodworkers like you on TH-cam who help educate and I love you all for that! Thank you again! ❤❤❤
Umm, Shawn, It's good to see you again after a length of time. Speaking of length, Man, your hair sure has gotten longer. In the comments you said something about dayquill & coming off the crud. Was that all it was? It seemed like you might have been 1/2 way into a bottle of Long Branch. LOL. I hope you're feeling better now man. Looking forward to more videos from you again. By the way, Good shootin' Tex. 🤠🤠🤣🤣
Just a quick question. You don’t reckon you turned your sister away from a fulfilling career of woodworking by giving her a crappy plane she couldn’t use?
Awesome! That looked like a Great Neck plane. Junk! I had, for fun, bought a Kobalt No.4 plane. I NEVER got it working. I could restore a 120yr old Stanley any day. Ive repaired so many planes, it isn't even worth mentioning, but that Kobalt REFUSED to work. I even tried hacks that others have tried and nothing would ever make that plane take shavings. I held onto it for 2 years before I finally destroyed it
Maybe I missed it Shawn but where did you say what "it" was (besides the obvious) or why you depised it so? I'm all for blasting junk tools but let us know more next time please. 👍🏾
If you can buy a new plane for $19.99 I can pretty much guarantee it qualifies as a "Tool Like Object". Lots of companies sell that particular one with their company stickers on it but there are things other than planes that qualify.
I suppose I got lucky with my cheapo no4 knockoff, it was actually easier than the new made Stanley no3 (baily) to get in working order (new made Stanleys are NOT worth the money nor the effort).
I bet you never went down a hill in a little red wagon as a kid. The whole front rant outlined what was wrong with this particular item. Sometimes a little moronic is fun.
@@wortheffort That plane was good enough to give to your sister years ago, what changed? Or did you just like giving her your garbage? Ranting "this is shit" isn't an explanation, it's just a moron ranting.
Please edit your comment for language so I don't have to delete it. If you listened I said they needed extreme fettling, machining, tuning and the like to get to work (skills new ww'r doesn't have yet) and even then don't keep those settings. And no I did not give this to my sister. Ya gotta listen dude.
Just because you don’t know how to use it doesn’t mean you should destroy it. I was a new wood worker not than long ago. Just need a good teacher and practice.
Rex Krueger: "I adjust my hand plane with a hammer."
Shawn: "Here in Texas..."
I've never paid that much for a plane, but they are all older than I am. My favourite is still the first one that I restored 45 years ago.
I think it would have been more interesting if you'd done a PREmortem going over why it was a danger to new woodworkers and THEN gone to town on it!
The opening rant?
@@wortheffortYeah

All of these years, I thought it was my fault. My Dad, however, used it like it was no problem.
I fell for one of those 6 months ago. Just needed a #4 for one job. Ended up using a belt sander.
Cheap planes aren't worth the "steel" they are made of! Lesson learned long ago.

A wood working video with a hilarious twist. I needed a laugh today.
this just gets better and better after the intro
lollies! All these new kids commenting on your video like you're not O.G. That's what ya GIT for not posting for so long, dude.
Please tell us how you really feel about that plane.😅
Great to see you back. Keep strong and looking forward for another video.
Lot of passion in this post.
So, should I be looking for it on Marketplace?

Something seems different about you today.
I’m blaming the generic DayQuill.
it's just the filters man, he turned them off
@@wortheffortI've heard the high you get from riding a Valkyrie is much better
I have one and could never make heads or tails out of it. Thought it was me.
Have one like that, a Stanley. Still use it. So, I have questions that were not answered.
That was not a Stanley, that was a knockoff object that appeared like a Stanley without the design or build quality.
Cathartic!
I would call the video extremely focused based on experience and results.

I DID NOT GIVE HER THAT PLANE!!!! !!!! !!!!!! !!!!!!! !!!!!!! !!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!

Restoration video coming soon?
Uh, no.
Was that a full tin? Arm sore from pumping / break cocking? Or did you go through a box of co2 capsules? Whatever, it was fun to watch.
PCP
😮the beginning of a torintino movie
Pretty sure that will get some engagement.
And of course a woodworker would choose diablo pellets, even though they are not red.
JSB makes em for FX and having used both I do feel there's a quality difference. I use the FX for field target matches.
Great! 😂
So, Harbor Freight?
That should buff out.
Hopefully u got all that out of your system
A waste of good lead!

Uh, no.

Why?
Well that was wierd
So ......... What did your sister do to you to deserve such an object being palmed off on her?
I DID NOT GIVE THAT TO HER !!!!!!!!!!!!
@@wortheffort That's your story .... and you're sticking to it? ;o)
Good message. Terrible delivery.
The enshittification of TH-cam continues. Why bother saying WTF is wrong with it when you can do something moronic instead?

Just a little fun while recovering from the crud.

Ask someone who knows what plane to buy. But I can assure you if they are $19.99 new they aren't worth it.
I don't see the point of doing this.
Sorry……not funny. Hand planes DO work.
That was not a hand plane. It was a hand plane like object. Whole point of video.
