100% spot on! I would add dried lavender, small vases here and there with fresh garden flowers or dried wild flowers and aromatic herbs in the kitchen if you don't have a garden. Portraits, oriental style carpets and lace is also very common. That huge, heavy closet and the big dinner table. Meals with the family and/or friends is sacred!
You put a ton of work in this video with well organized, detailed photos and thoughtful verbal descriptions. You should be very proud of your professional quality video. You have much to offer, and people are learning many decorating ideas from you.
Rustic Elegance. Like your great grandmother lived in a chateau which ended up out of the family for financial reasons, but you inherited some of her furniture and decor.
Oh my gosh! Farmhouse but more elegant! I could never articulate why Farmhouse never appealed to me, but your example of the industrial light fixture and swapping it for a chandelier is perfect!
❤Oooo summer interior idea: the was Italian mob wife in the fall/winter and now I'm hearing Italian villa babe! Think Sofia Loren. baskets, head handkerchiefs, peasant blouses, with also touches of glam and luxury. We had Mediterranean/tuscan kitchens and what not that got over done there for a moment but it isnt quite that. Its more earthy with alot of like 1950s over lap think classy dressed men like Frank Sinatra and Dean Martin on vacation.❤ Loved the video. Very well done
I loved this! I, like millions ‘of others bought into “Farmhouse”. Unlike others, I pulled it down once I realized I had word signs attached everywhere, it had gone beyond kitchy. The ideas you have borough in today are basic to farmhouse but in an elevated, classic way.
Awesome ideas! I love French decor and came here for more ideas…I already have the majority of items you mentioned, so I guess I’m doing better then I thought. Love how you’ve presented this.
I have gone through different design themes like American Farmhouse, Old-World Mediterranean, and Victorian but I have stuck with French Country design and don't think I will ever change. I love the French blue and other muted colors or how forgiving this theme is. I have a collection of ceramic chickens and roosters in my yard (bc I don't want to clutter my kitchen). I would further add lacy or crocheted tablecloths/centerpieces, lemons, poppies, and Fleur de Lis to the list. Thank you for making this video.
I enjoyed the video very much! I would like to see ideas for fall going into the holidays and decor for by the front door. French country is my favorite!
I would love your take on how to have a spooky/cozy/inviting room but make it summer. I know this isn't a thing but I love Halloween and dark Gothic stuff, but also love spring, gardening and books, but I'm not sure what to do with my decor between spring and fall. Summer is too hot and I just want a clean cozy home with some spooky elements. Maybe I'm the only one?
I didn't know what it was called until now, but I'm obsessed with French Country! It's been my interior design style this whole time without realizing it; I purchased a ton of wedding decor in this theme before we ended up eloping, and then I repurposed it as home decor. I love me some ornate gold, rattan, wood tones, and all things toile. I also think Matisse art, white or jadeite milk glass, Turkish accent rugs, and sunflowers add that lil' bit of je nais se quois; I have faux sunflowers in a milk bottle-shaped decanter vase currently. 😊🌻
I became a new subscriber after watching your video. I loved your elegant, timeless, and beautiful ideas on styling Country French decor. You gave me many ideas on how to style my bedroom to complement my oak with a fruitwood finish American Drew Country French bedroom set which is 45 years old. An additional comment that I have is the style of clothing you are wearing suits you well as does the background in your video. If you have a strong interest in fashion, I hope you consider doing videos on fashion.
Hi - I loved this video! I’m purchasing (thrifting) items for a new home in the Arizona desert and I’m loving the French vibe! Your suggestions and idea are just perfect! Thank you!
You definitely want to listen to Delius to get in the mood for this. Start with Brigg Fair. The composer was a pastoralist with a French flavor. Of course Brigg Fair is a Roma horse fair that takes place annually in England! There is an associated going-to-the-fair song (like Scarborough, for example!). The Delius piece is a theme and variations on that.
So much fun... !!! The items I woukd add would be little aprons - or baker aprons, fake or real Le Cruset wrought iron pots maybe in cream or red or bkue and ... perfume bottles...if you could do a video on Beach ... Nautical seaside Nantucket / New England kind of Gossip Girl Summer / Revenge with saikboat - Raloh Lauren vibes I woukd personally be over the moon... Thank you!❤🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉YOU Rock!!!
I JUST LOVE 💕 YOUR VIDEOS, FRENCH THINGS JUST RESONATE WITH ME, I GET SO EXCITED ABOUT EVERYTHING FRENCH, THANK YOU FOR YOUR BEAUTIFUL TAKE ON FRENCH THINGS!!!!!!
Your chair looks sooo cozy and beautiful. May I ask where you purchased it from? It looks so perfect for a cottagecore themed living room...and I am searching for the perfect fireplace sitter!
Important to note A larger longer table cloth looks more French/English/classic. If the hang of the table cloth is too short it will look decidedly American. Layering the too short table cloth over another table cloth that is larger also helps with keeping French/English/classic look.
Just found your channel! Great video! Would love to see you do a video in this format for a Greek inspired style. Blue and white, tile, geometric patterns, seashells, mythology references, etc.
So Im sure youve heard of this but if your looking to colorize like natural wood, whatever, furniture, etc., may I suggest historical milk paint. Ive used it, Ive known several people that have used it and its relatively easy to make from what I hear (Ive not done it). You can buy it commercially from what Ive heard but it may ne a little more expensive? Idk. I just like the look it gives and I think it would be great for your cottage and French farmhouse looks. That is all. Thanks for the vid.
how about -Morrocan style !! - great for hot climes... Natural textures , earthy textiles, indoor /outdoor living - easy-care gardens - warmer hues - different from southwestern /Mexican styles - coloured glass, embellished golds or bronze and silver accents - has a slightly Indian feel to it...
I would like to see an answer. I have no design or art background, and yes, visuals of what Style X looks like are helpful, but so are some verbal descriptions with pictures of Yes, This/No, Not That. I've watched a handful of other French Country videos, but this one really spelled out specifics and gave me the greatest understanding. Keep up the good work, Lanchen!
French features more gold, more shabby antique, all this makes it rustic. Also the fabric patterns are different and no wallpaper, mostly white walls or the bare stone. I don't think horses are very French, actually they are more in the English hunting traditions, French have more playfulness.
English country has more cottage elements and patterns like roses. Wood and colors are more saturated in medium tones. French country is more faded. Walls are more natural or worn almost like Tuscany styles. English is more Wallpapers, brick, wattle and daub. French is more ornate furniture while English is more homey and boxy at times. Plants and gardens are different. English has the constructed wildflowers while French is more symmetrical. Overall they both have some overlap with country, rustic, and cottage elements but cultural differences show through in furniture, fabrics, building materials, dishes, and decorative features. 😊
Um, I haven't finished yet BUT I think herein was more like the Cottage core people got lazy and didn't want to go ALL IN and so started just using "Light" Academia elements? Like how I feel that if you went to an ACTUAL French country home, instead of chandeliers brought from Paris antique stores, what you'd find instead is lots of modern appliance stuff sort of jury-rigged into original rustic structures in tight spaces and other odd room configurations where the stuff doesn't really look Old-Timey or thematically cohesive, etc. That here there might be something cohesive somewhere in there that I'm missing or ignoring BUT in the cooler months I think I'd prefer Bavarian mountain instead and since it's already pretty hot now here I'm feeling more like South Asia vibe but, as I've mentioned, too much hodgepodge here to fix entirely now in one fell swoop... Or like when the whole country thing was first taking off and they were showing eggs on display in bowls on counters and such and I can only imagine how that would smell here if not refrigerated, etc. And I never want one of those straw brooms in a corner, so at least here there would be none of that, but the colors a little more beige than Coastal Cottage even if you are adding some sage or blue or whatever pastels. The captions were no help, so TOILE is the word she is saying about those busy patterns.
Yes, I am less interested in the beat-up white paint than I would be for clean white paint and that stark contrast they make against colors like seafoam or slate grey, etc.
I would think floral lampshades or something would go more with the gingham and such whereas Toile would go more with the upscale aspects of the aesthetic but none of the aged wood stuff. I think much more planning would be required to make those things work whereas the other country aspects could just be more spontaneous. Nobody's going to care if the gingham totally works with aged furniture, whereas the pattern won't go so well with gold frames while the Toile won't work pretty much AT ALL with wood painty frames, etc.
I don't know if those standy mirrors are hard to find or just hard to situate in a typical room now? Kind of like those room separator things. I mean, let's not get into the space limitations of apartments, but the construction of the new American homes is like a giant master bedroom where it can maybe go, but then small other rooms with mirrored closets and such. All fairly tacky and boxy and without much character to fit "odd" furniture items or classic vintage show pieces of said like such. Floor space is precious with giant beds and most bedrooms have a TV area now that takes up some space and can usually only go on one wall for the plugs and wires.
The pictures are very americans to me. Bringing in some statement items does not introduce to the deep cultural references that stages the vibes and essence of regional France
What are your thoughts on this interior design? And remember if you enjoyed the video, don't forget to hit that thumbs up 🫶
i NEED this in my life
@@fairyfarms Ditto 🙂
Love your video and French country style, I am decorating my home using you ideas and recommendations! Thank you!
❤ thank you so much. Also I think that carved wood window decor outside the home automatically screams French provincial.

French country reminds me of light academia but with mixed with a little country vibe. Like it much better than farmhouse. ❤
Books are a MUST. Also use as risers. Great video!
12:09 Horses work, in my opinion. Although, some seem much more English. Pastorals with sheep seem more French
Oh my gosh! Farmhouse but more elegant! I could never articulate why Farmhouse never appealed to me, but your example of the industrial light fixture and swapping it for a chandelier is perfect!
I like Cottagecore and Traditional, so French Country is the perfect blend for me . 😊😊
French Country has always been my favorite style and I loved the many suggestions you had!!
Love French country out of all the designs ❤
West Indies British Colonial is a nice spring summer vibe too.
This is very much my home with a tad bit more cottagecore. Most of mine is from market place and thrifting and very nice too.
Yes love love this style! I am between this and “moody” aesthetic right now
I would love to see a video of how to Decorate Old English Cottage! 💚💚💚
You hit the spot and you were delightful! I enjoyed your take and understanding! I’m in my 80’s and you in yours 20’s. Nice generation hug.
Love the horse vibe, always!
I’m a French Country lady, ❤️❤️❤️. tfs blessings 🥰👵🏽🙏🏾

I love this interior design it’s my favorite and it’s almost pretty accurate to how I decorate my room already.
Oh no way!! Yea I feel like bits of my home are similar too

Love the long mirror idea!
French Country is my favorite design-style and I am an interior designer as well since the age of 7 and that's honest and I am now a new subscriber

Loves it! 🤍 I’m actually looking into turning my backyard French style. Can’t wait!

I love French country design. You did a wonderful job of comparing and inspiring. I love how you approached the topic.
Great group of ideas! Redoing my house with French country items.😊

Oooooh! Good ideas! 😊
Many years ago I stayed in the farmhouse home of an Aristocratic French family. The vibe was one of decaying grandeur, which is difficult to capture.
Love that I have all those items, it seems I'm doing things right! Amazing video, congrats

Bronze. Sculptures of humans or animals. Also lampfoots. Or candleholders, or doorknocks.
How about doing a beach cottage video?

What are buks?
Cabriole legs, a fire place even if it's fake
I would called them french provencale
Nice ideas......I believe it's Rattan, not ratton
The porn scarf makes an odd addition to a decorative advise. 😂😂😂

But that’s the point, we are not french
