    The wildest thing about this place is that there are several other Grasshopper locations in the area (all owned by the same family) that are still successful and yet this one couldn't make it.

      It boile from the top. From ordering, to meeting at least half the profic margin and dude i could go on and on. Like some people shouldnt have kids? Same with restaurants dude. Natural selection knows no boundaries, as it shouldnt.@@luciagianquitto4010

      @@luciagianquitto4010 My assumption is that this particular location was so unsuccessful and creating such a negative margin that they had to cut it off. It could also have something to do with Mitch getting part ownership and being run like a separate location trying to profit off of the name. I've seen major national brands close down locations due to unprofitability, so I doubt a small local chain would be any different.

      I actually know someone with a pronounced developmental disability who “runs” a food truck that is really a family business, but Mike has wanted to own his own restaurant his whole life, so his folks made it happen, along with some complicated funding benefits from SSA. But Mike works his tushie off, is great with customers, & uses his talents 110%! Mom and dad may do the books, inventory, & supervise/help cook, but Mike is a very successful Front of House kinda guy and while he is not a traditional entrepreneur, he makes it work.

    I know restaurants come and go such is the nature of the industry, but anyone else find it comical the next few establishments that succeeded The Grasshopper were increasingly terrible until the location's most recent incarnation as Segovia Meson?

  • @robertlee4172
    @robertlee4172 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +6

    Here's the thing about restaurants...THEY'RE HARD TO KEEP PROFITABLE.
    So many elements working against restaurant owner/operators. Poor kitchen staff skills, poor wait staff skills, poor accounting skills, poor menu, poor cleaning staff, customers stealing, staff stealing, management stealing, etc, etc, etc...One thing I've learned, watching episodes of Kitchen Nightmares, the ones who don't change with the times, fail. About 80% of the show's featured businesses have shuttered their doors.
    In this case, The Grasshopper was huge and unwieldly for the inexperienced staff. That head chef shouldn't have been hired in the first place. Alowing garbage to be served to their customers. Mitch needed some business skills. A refresher course at a local college would have given him some inspiration. The father daughter team too. I mean, $3 million dollars, in 2009 goes a loooong way. They dove into a business too large too soon.

    Gordon Gordon Gordon… enough bitching about Shepherds Pie. A) maybe they are shepherds who love their sheep so they eat beef ;) B) it’s legit here, if authentic UK-Gaelic food is on offer, but for the most part, Americans no longer enjoy lamb & it is crazy expensive; I live in sheep ranch country and even we eat cottage pie (we have even more cows) and call it shepherds. Maybe in Idaho they care, but they’re basque shepherds, they eat really really good food. Seriously stop harassing American restaurants over this, if it clearly says beef on the menu, it’s fine - shepherd’s pie is clearly the common term in the US, and I don’t think I’ve ever heard another British person mention cottage pie. I bet I can find ten British or Irish recipes for “beef shepherds pie” right now.

Not saying there aren't ones that buck the trend, but more often than not, if you're looking for quality food at a Sports bar, you're missing the point. They're really just there to sell drinks and show the games. Food is usually an afterthought. Gordon Ramsay being nitpicky about Shepherd's pie kind of annoyings me. First Cottage/Shepherd's pie being different is mostly a UK distinction and not really a historical one either. Famous authors like Jane Grigson, Martha Steward and Mark Hix have used Shepherd's pie to mean beef. The The Practice of Cookery and Pastry from 1849 says it is sliced meat of any kind topped with potatoes and baked.
