- Is the new Alpina B3 the ultimate sleeper?! The 3 Series model offers M3 beating performance while sliding totally under the radar with discrete looks and styling. Up front sits the S58 that will power it to over 300km/h as I get to find out with a test drive on the German Autobahn!
The new Alpina B3 takes the basis of the latest BMW 3 Series, and in particular the M340i model, but builds in a development of the new S58 engine that's found in the new M3 and M4, with a different turbo setup that's more targeted towards comfort and effortless power. As such, the 3.0l inline-6 TwinPower Turbo now makes 462hp and 700Nm, offering acceleration times to match the M3 and a higher top speed up to 303km/h (188mph) in the Limousine and 300km/h (186mph) in the Touring,
Visually it retains the normal 3 Series front end look and grilles, with subtle additions of a new lower lip up front and around the back a decklid spoiler and quad exhaust tailpipe, while also wearing new wheels and sitting at a lower ride height. On the inside there are numerous upgrades targeting comfort, and especially the Comfort Plus mode that is on offer in place of EcoPro that very much offers a magic carpet style ride.
Unknown to many, Alpina cars are actually assembled on the BMW assembly lines themselves, as opposed to being an aftermarket tuner product. They are ordered and specified from new via BMW dealers while then receiving their own Alpina chassis number from factory. This is exactly the case for the B3 at the BMW Munich plant, and the result is a car that would sit discretely on the road or parked while attending a business meeting, but offering fantastic performance along the way.

It is, my brother in law bought an M3 cabriolet last year, I dont the style & dont know if they'll make an m3 estate but seeing the Alpina touring, dont care, I love it & just need to convince the other half to sell a kidney or one of the kids (tbh it's good value)

All B3’s are fitted with a custom Akrapovic exhaust system, they also don’t pump fake sounds through the speakers

I'd buy this over the new M3 without a doubt. The styling, packaging and the classiness is unmatched.
M3 is meant to be a much more in your face and sportier car it's packaging is totally dif
I went from M4 to Alpina...the interior was tremendous and the ride was sublime, I urge anyone who is thinking of M3 to try Alpina when demonstrator are available
My dad was the first buyer of the Alpina B4 in Australia, and we were invited to the factory back a couple years. So amazing to see the new generation!

They make fewer than 2k cars annually, worldwide. In terms of the F3x generation of B3 and B3S, Touring and saloon combined numbered somewhere fewer than 50 built for U.K. customers across 7 years. They are more rare than all but the most exotic marques or limited edition specials. It’s one of the things that attracts the small number of us who are fans of the brand.
My first car was a 1999 3 series and I thought it would be ‘cool’ for me to replace all of the bmw badges with alpina badges. One day I randomly saw another e46 that was a real alpina drive slowly past me and my jaw literally dropped. The lady driving saw my car and my reaction and laughed as she passed me. This was in Massachusetts and the only alpina I’ve ever seen in person besides newer b7’s, I never saw that car again. This was about 6-7 years ago when I first got my license.

ALPINA makes one of the best understated cars ever. I would have an ALPINA over any of its Bavarian counterpart. Big fan of these. Good behind the driver seat pov as well.

Wish these were available in the US. I owned a B6 a couple years ago and moved to an X5M when I needed more room and I loved that car. It was everything...a canyon weapon, a road trip dream and a perfect daily driver. Now I’m buying an F80M3 as a weekend toy but would love a B3 as an option.

I fell in love with Alpina when I was a 10yr old kid playing in my friends Dads E21 Alpina w/ Rear disc brakes and a factory 6 cylinder. Didn't see many of those in the states, especially in the 90's :)

Interesting that they went with the standard paddle shifters, my 2015 B6 has the button shifters which do take some getting used to compared with paddles. Love your content!

The 8 and the 3 series are the only good looking BMW's left.
In my opinion the f90 pre facelift also looks very good. The rest is disapointing.
