    You know we're big fans of driving fence posts! I've been wanting to compare the differences between driving 16 gauge, 20 weight (LG-20), and 40 weight (LG-40) pipe to see how each one performs and how badly each pipe mushrooms.

    Will this work in hard pan, which is sorta like natural concrete, but not concrete?

    What weight do you recommend for residential wood fencing?

    I am in the understanding that it's better to set wood or metal post in concrete what are the reasons behind concrete or not

    • @SWiFence
      @SWiFence  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Soil conditions and speed on the job. There's nothing wrong with concrete (although it does accelerate rot on wood posts). But if you have the right soil for it and you have a lot of posts to set, driving can save a ton of time: th-cam.com/video/15zL8bOXU1E/w-d-xo.html

    Dan, what are you building? Those posts are way too close for a dog pen. Even if you were caging a chihuahua, there is barely enough room for it to fit in and still have room for its food and water dish.
    And a dachshund? If you put one in facing clockwise it won’t have near enough room to turn around. As temperamental as they are, it’ll get dizzy from spinning the same direction all day!
    Chickens perhaps? Well sir the spacing seems about right to put a nesting box between two of them. But, you’d have to hire a preschooler to fit through the gate, hung between the other two, to feed and water.
    “Cats”, you say? Come on man, even I know that cats climb chain link like it’s an escalator.
    Pigmy goats? Nope… not enough room for manure. They’d be hoof deep in an hour.
    A Miniature horse arena? Again, the quarters are too cramped. You’d scrape your boots on the fence just trying to get them in the stirrups.
    I have to admit Dan, you have put the total perplex onto me, with this build. If it’s not a big trade secret… please divulge the nature of this super cool project. I’m going nuts here, racking my dementia inspired mind, while trying to find a fit for this teaser project preview… and that won’t be a good danged day!

      It's my man-cave where I can go and chill out when stressed from making too many videos. They wouldn't give me very much ground to build it on. 😆

    Can I drive an irrigation pipe the same size with that driver!?

    • @SWiFence
      @SWiFence  ปีที่แล้ว

      Will it fit in the driver? Probably. Can you successfully drive a thin-wall pipe that's not intended to be used as a post? I would doubt it.

    Would 17 gauge be good post for my backyard fence? Will be 7 feet high.

    • @SWiFence
      @SWiFence  ปีที่แล้ว

      I would think you would want to upgrade to an SS20 post, at minimum.

    Is there a way to prevent the tops from getting deformed?

    • @SWiFence
      @SWiFence  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      This doesn't always happen but can in hard or rocky ground. If you leave a bit extra sticking out you can lop it off with a deep-cut bandsaw afterward.

    Uhhhhh, 🧐 Wouldn’t you actually need a little bit longer Pole for a Std. 8 foot fence??.
    What I mean by that is you would at least need a 10 foot pole in order to show an 8 foot revealed for an 8 foot fence line, ammmmmmeeerrrright?.

    • @SWiFence
      @SWiFence  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Well, you're right... you can't build an 8' fence with an 8' post. This demo was for something like 5' chain link. 3 feet in, 5 feet out.

    Can't afford a Rhino Driver.....do they make a Pit Bull Driver, maybe just an Angry Chihuahua Driver that costs a lot less and takes a bit more time? Retired, have not so much money, but a lot of time.
