Another option and my preference for shading, you can use a green and red. Much easier than using burnt sienna and yellow. And for darker skin never use black, use a VERY dark blue/purple. Overall, good use of color and shading.
I have seen hundrends of videos about skin tone in pastel. All had 30 more colors just for skin. You prooved me that the material is less important than the color blending. Happy, I will start testing your method as soon as possible. Thank you!
This was a great video! Been learning Dave Porter's method of mixing and you each have your own method. I like your method as well and will do some practicing today! I'm a colored pencil artist trying to switch over to pastels. Thx.
Got to say I’ve been drawing on and off for years, watched countless videos on skin tone and yours is the best so far. So simple to follow your tips, well explained and at a decent speed to learn some tips. Thank u 💕
Hi Gemma! I’m not sure if you will see this but I wanted to thank you. I’m a first year art student who has never worked with this material before, and I do not get along with my professor’s teaching style. He refuses to do demos and gives advice that is often far too vague to properly utilize. This video helped me SO much with understanding how to use pastels. Thank you very much.
What an awesome comment, I'm so glad I could help you - that's what this channel is all about 😃 I've been through the same thing and always found visual & practical easier to grasp than theory
@@GemmaChambersArt Without pencil numbers, this tutorial is absolutely meaningless. as if any red pencil, any yellow pencil will give the same result. Although it is asked as a question, you do not answer stubbornly. I feel like cursing.
In trying to follow along I’m finding by the time I get to adding the highlight and the brown shadow it is difficult to get the color down. I can’t continue to darken as if I can’t put anymore pastel down
Hi! I recently bought these pencils, nice tutorial ,but it would be nice that you give or show the numbers on the pencil has these d'ont have name colors and with the light of the videos, not clear to see which brown you took just happend to quickly see in the middle of the video that it was 283 I think! Thank you so much!
Hi! Thanks for the feedback. This video is a little older now, I'm (hopefully) making my videos better all the time as I upgrade cameras and lighting along the way 😊

Can I do this on white paper? I don't have tanned paper
What if we have a different brand what colors should we use then?
Madam if u upload the face sketching of old people...it would be helpful, with regards
