Red Wing Classic Moc Toe 877 Review - The most iconic and popular moc toe boots are by far the red wing moc toe boots. I have reviewed them in the past and compared them to the other popular moc toe boots like thorogood, whites, thursday, danner and a few more. So today we cut a red wing moc toe in half to see what's inside and if they are still worth it after 1000 miles.

Got a pair of these still going strong after 20 years, and 4 resoles. Thanks for the cut in half, now I know what’s in them. They are heavier than 875 due that double layered upper, it’s worth it though. Now I use an insole as it’s become bigger over time…

About three-four months ago, I purchased a pair of the 10877s the "Oro-iginal" leather version of the 877 moc-toes. My true shoe size is 11.5 EE, but in the 10877s I'm a 9.5 EE which kinda blew my mind haha. When I first got them they were almost painful to wear for more than an hour or two, now? They're the most comfortable boots I own. My journey with these boots has just begun, and I'm glad I decided to invest in them. Wearing anything else honestly feels so damn odd now.

Funny. First time in a Red Wing store, 5 guys came in to replace their boots. They painted the Ben Franklin Bridge in Philadelphia. An unforgiving, perilous job. I figured, if it is good enough for those guys, they are good enough for me. That was 18 years ago. (I do not paint bridges.)

My 877's are about 7 years old now! Similar patina has developed. They have had one resole but I changed the wedge outsole for a black Vibram with some tread and a heel block. The heel blocks have been changed a couple of times and it's cheaper the a full resole. Replaced the upper eyelets with speed hooks for ease of access. Had the cobbler stitch on some small leather patches to the tongue where the laces had cut through over the years. The moc toe stitches even held up over a couple years of shifting gears on a motorcycle. These are still my go to boot for farm/garden work or general labor. It would be hard to separate with these since the insole and the whole boot has really formed to my specific foot print. Great dissection! Thanks.

Flat sole boots don't need shanks. I've been wearing my 875s for a year now. I also have the Thorogoods. I never noticed any difference shank vs no shank with flat sole. I also dig with a shovel quite a bit and use ladders. The RWs are just more robust boots. And if you're that concerned about a shank, just have one added when its time for a resole.

To be noted that the 8" 877 have a different upper's construction than the 6", I mean the top portion come upon the vamp and is triple stitched. So I guess it makes them tougher than the 6".

I just got a fresh pair of mock toe boots by a new brand called QLTY objective. Definitely aiming at the budget market of "work boots." To me, they seem like they are trying to compete with timberlands as a nubuck work boot, with more style than long term function. They do have a leather welt and claim to be easy to resole. Would love to see your take on them and if the cost saving measures they use are worth it.

I was able to snag an almost new pair of these from an estate sale for like 80 bucks but they were 11's and I wear 10 1/2 or 11 depending on the brand so they're a bit big lol, I couldn't let them go though but I'll definitely have to get a proper pair in my size in the future. Adding in a removable sole helped but I know I'm just making it work instead of getting a good fit

The Red Wing 606 would be a very interesting boot to cut in half! I want to see the guts of the "Supersole 2.0.". It's a dual density non-slip work sole with an interesting synthetic "welt" that is resoleable & incredibly durable. I wear them for kitchen work but Red Wing markets them to people in "oil & gas" etc. The leather is super nice & they retail for $250

The soles fall apart if put away and not used enough... hydrolysis. Both my counters broke also. Due to the counters and the fact that cobblers don't seem to like to mess with resoling these things I trashed them. They were several years old though and gave a decent 5 yrs of factory work use.

Something to point out. I have had several pair of more modern Redwings with rubber welts. It lasts. Theirs lasts longer than a leather welt. I have not had one crack inside of three years. That pair went through two sets of soles before it finally began to get hard and started cracking. That was on a pair of Supersoles. Still salty I lost the boots, but the new Supersole 2.0s are just about as good. They just don't look as good.

Im a welder got a pair of 8830 and absolutely love them i also have a pair of there 3534 cause there stitched with kevlar so you don't burn the stitching and I keep going back to the 8830s there a lighter boot cause there is no steel toe and shank and the 3534 are puncture resistant so that adds weight if I get on a job the requires steel toe I'll we're those cause I think there a great boot just i like the 8830s more and the only thing I'm worried about is the stitching for the moc toe burning up so far I've gotten lucky and nothing that would concern me happened yet but I have burnt a little bit of the stitching but nothing to write home about only thing I don't like is there way to big will definitely get a pair of 10877 here shortly to replace those and those will be in the right size to

Does anyone here know if the 10877 is constructed the same way as the 877? There’s a $20 price difference between them. I’ve heard the 10877 comes with a thin leather removable insole as well, but I’m curious if they have the same internals otherwise. I’ve got a pair of 8138’s I’ve used hard for work, I prefer an 8” boot so I’m thinking the 10877 or 877 is going to be next if I don’t get the whites Perry boots.

As an ironworker I prefer 877s over any boot they have ankle support unlike thorogoods that flop around on your foot redwing are tight to the foot besides the rough break-in period they will feel more comfortable than any boot and they breath very well I work in Florida and only boot that has never given me athletes foot they're about 340 before taxes now and that's the only problem they're getting to damn expensive.. can u do a review on the Danner bull run moc I recently bought a pair they're 260 but the stitching leaks I've had them for about e months now

I actually own both the 877 and the Perry's. Comparing the two I'd say the only advantage the Perry's have is that they do have a shank the downside to them is the newer counter material they use is way overkill and almost downright painful to have on your heel all day if you don't get them laced up just right. As for the 877 they're a fantastic boot and that tiny heel counter is perfect.
Also if anyone's wondering if took close to 100hrs to get the Perry's to start to break in vs about 40hrs for the 877s. That's not full break in just till my foot started to make a dent in the leather insoles

Quick q about that lil' baby counter - it's leather like the other mocs right?
