This is NOT boring content. My husband is deployed and I’ve been binge watching your channel from the moment you first showed us your epic tree. Much like Madeline, I’ve found myself smiling at the good and frowning at the bad in your vlogs. Being separated from my better half, across the country from my friends and family, I am so thankful to have the ability to sit back a feel as if I have a friend in the room during this season. Like you, my soul is happy in the repetitive tasks and watching it unfold provides me with a sense of peace. After watching much of your content, I am so proud to say that I found my “sparkle” again (8 months postpartum plus a 4-nager) and began making what you call quiet moments for myself. Amercing myself in a novel, or finally finishing a crochet project (there are many 1/2 finished)…thank you for sharing your triumphs and failures, and thank you for virtually holding my hand whist I find myself again listening to all that powerful talkin! ❤

🌺I reuse my single use plastic markers for my plants year after year… I collect them in the fall from the garden, swish them in a jar of isopropyl alcohol, and the permanent marker slides right off… Maybe takes an extra second to clean off, but totally worth it! My greenhouse collapsed this winter under the weight of a crazy snowfall… so Thank you for letting us spend some time in your greenhouse🥰♥️♥️

Oooh thanks for the tip! I've been using the pencil that comes with them (I get them from Dollar Tree) but that inevitably washes off some of them and ends in confusion. I was just wondering if a grease pencil would work but your way sounds even easier.

I was going to mention the isopropyl alcohol also, but i would have done soak a cotton ball and wipe method. this would take a while though, your idea of swishing them in a jar is brilliant. Also hope your greenhouse can be saved in time for gardening season.

    • @growingrealart
      @growingrealart ปีที่แล้ว +7

Speaking from experience, if you don’t have isopropyl alcohol lying around, a high-proof alcohol like vodka or ever clear can remove permanent marker 😅

Seeing all those trays with their tags just makes me so excited. I can't wait to see the garden tours. I guess this is how some people feel when they see the new seasons clothing get put out. I feel that way about seed starting lol.
Edited: I grew the Blue Butterfly Peas last year. I used a fingernail clipper to crack the seed coating and that helped them germinate. They also love heat like peppers and germinate a lot faster when temps outside are constantly 75°F and above. If someone starting them lives in a cooler climate, they might try starting these indoors on a heat mat or using a humidity dome to trap the heat in to get them to germinate faster.

Your content is wonderful! It’s because of you that I started buying seeds. I’ve failed in the garden so many times and been disheartened, but your motto of the garden being a classroom rings out to me. I bought a small, starter greenhouse last year and put it up a couple of weeks ago. I got grow lights and seed cell trays. I bought seeds galore! I’m branching out and TRYING, and that’s what your videos inspire me to do. Don’t worry about the end result. Just enjoy each teachable moment as it comes. ❤️ I grew melons last year for the first time and had a prolific harvest. I’m a preacher’s wife and brought melons to our summer socials. It was so rewarding!

This video gave me a different perspective on your table top. It's more beautiful than I remember it being. The lighting was perfect! And you, Jess, even on your worst of days, we're never and are not now ever boring. I've suffered for over 30 years with autoimmune disease. I found my body can tolerate sourdough (my favorite) bread but not much else in the grain family. After doctors telling me I was fine and it was all in my head I started researching on my own, in my late 60's and now almost through my 70's. Made some mistakes and some right decisions. I now buy mostly organic fruits n veggies n meats. I rent so no in ground planting, plus our soil is terrible, rock hard and unusable. Getting planters is difficult on a fixed budget. The landlord wants it to look nice, not junky, and the ground squirrels are death on a lot of planters. If you leave a cardboard box out more than two days they will have eaten all of it. They will chew through plastic, even the heavy duty bags. Trying to find a way to container plant that fits my meager budget and that they can't destroy is a challenge. They even ate through the tires on my grandson's trike and bike!! They chewed up all the wiring in my son's jeep because now, in their infinite wisdom, the manufacturers are using corn and corn by products to make the coverings instead of rubber. It's like ringing the dinner bell to the ground squirrels! They chewed through the wiring for my master brake cylinder and hit my brother in law's truck, too, and his was on the cement driveway, not the dirt like ours. If any viewers have solutions I'm open to them all. Cant poison because my landlord has dogs, sweet ones i enjoy. I've gardened before and been successful. I'm looking forward to it again. God bless you! I've learned new things and relearned things I've long forgotten from you. And the journey has always been a beautiful one. I pray I can enjoy many more years to come.

God Bless You Sweet Jess. I've labeled myself a haphazard gardener....and love it when seeds germinate is unexpected places, I then transplant them to my garden bed. My sons and I created three beds, one is for experimenting. I'm working on a seed starting station in the hopes of creating more beds over on my neighbors yard. Seed starting then transplanting twice then in the garden is my favorite time too. Thank you soooo much for sharing your knowledge. We're just here in a small backyard....but any love our soil is shown, it hugs us back in dandelions, sheperd's purse and other wild flowers. Life comes from it. I am grateful. Take care. Never boring Jess, I always come away with something new in my gardening brain bank. For instance, your reasoning for using the regular height trays with the 32 cell pot holders. I have been using the shallow 1020 trays so the cell trays sit all the way down, but they are so easy to overfill and make a mess, especially since mine are in my living room starting rack. I may experiment with the regular trays this year.
Before transplanting to the garden, I draw a map or make one in a spreadsheet of my beds and label everything, then take that with me to the garden, marking any changes I make on the fly.
Just a shout out for Bootstrap Farmer, they have acquired many of my dollars because of you and Jill promoting them. Same with Greenstalk.

you know speaking of the memory table, I wouldn't put glass on it . If it were me I would put a thick layer of clear laquer on it that way its protected, you dont have to worry about breaking it and its cleanable. It's so precious and gorgeous. I love your whole green house and that table really makes the windows pop. It's going to be gorgeous. I cannot wait to see it. blessings y'all.

Or a heavy duty plexiglass piece on top for protection in place of glass. Then she wouldnt be concerned about it breaking. Some lacquers tend to yellow over time. There are companies that will cut to size, they can bevel the edges if you want so you can move it and not injure your hands and deliver or package and mail with say UPS. Worth checking into. .

I just received my Jess8 seeds from Wild Boar Farms. I will start peppers and eggplant next week and tomatoes the week after that. Here in Northern Oklahoma, we are due for snow tonight and rain in the AM. No greenhouse, but heat mats, lights and a non-drafty shed. I am so excited to get going. Nothing you say is boring. Blessings.

also a fun tip , chalk markers work for labeling the pots for those who do not have labels. It has lasted years on pots for me. It comes right off with a damp cloth. Ive used them to draw seasonal murals/designs on my windows, labeling leftover containers in the fridge.. canning goods. So many uses !

I've told myself for a few years now that I'd commit to a plan and start a garden. Last year we finally grew tomatoes and it was so exciting. I agree that this video is NOT boring and appreciate just seeing your process, even on a larger scale than what I might be doing. Looking forward to a bigger garden this year and am thankful for all that you share!!

I cleaned out my green stalk today . It was 65 here in Rochester NY today. I'm under no delusion the weather will still be cold with snow but oh my it felt so good to get out and piddle around in the gardens.
AND I received my tomato seeds from Wild Boar Farms today of Jess's favorites. A happy day today😊

Jess, I'm so grateful for the simplicity of your teaching and encouragement to us new gardeners 💕 thank you.
Yesterday and older woman told me to soak every single seed for the garden in black tea with a cap of bourbon and ammonia and peroxide.
Immediately I felt overwhelm and said to myself, "No way it has to be that complicated... seeds want to grow.. there's got to be an easier way"
And then your video popped up
    HalleluYah 🙌
    Thank you, Jess 💕
