  • Hello! Thank you so much for taking the time to watch my video! My name is Lizzie and I own an online vintage shop called Benjamin Vintage Finds. You can find me on benjaminvintag... or on Instagram @benjaminvintagefinds www.instagram.... :)
For this video I share with you a week in my life living on Benjamin! I make lots of cups of tea, do a bit of sewing, a bit of cooking and work a lot on my website as It was Black Friday weekend. I also share some struggles of living in a narrow boat being a young woman.
But mostly I try and show how beautiful it is!
❤️🌸Ways to support me and my channel❤️🌸:
Shopping on my online vintage boutique: benjaminvintag...

Benjamin is an English narrow boat made in 1998 and was brought over to France about 10 years ago. It ended up in a little port in Burgundy France that my parents run. Sadly the owner passed away and the boat was basically abandoned. In 2019, we bought it and have been doing it up ever since!
Don't worry my vintage is not gone! I'm still trying to figure out the best way to set up my studio in a small space, however keep your eyes peeled as I will be making a video about all this and I have some new ideas to share my love for vintage with you all!
Thank you for watching! Don't forget to like and subscribe if you enjoyed the video and leave a comment down below with any advice on how to improve the boat!
    Lizzie xx

    Hi.
My name is Paul and I think you have done what so many people want to do. You live almost off grid and you have a business which you run on your own and you are completely self sufficient. No employers to make you unhappy. You have hit the jackpot as far as I am concerned and i am pleased for you because you are an inspiration to others.
I don't have a narrowboat myself but i have always dreamed of living in gorgeous surroundings while slowly drifting the inland waterways.
I find your 1950's vintage business quite unusual, and the concept of selling something unusual intrigues me very much.
I am able to sell Art which i create myself and that's OK, so like you i have something with which i can take anywhere and be self sufficient with.
I really appreciate your TH-cam videos because they show what a great lifestyle can be had if you are prepared to adapt and be flexible enough with an open mind to deal with challenges head on.
Well done. I see you are called Lizzie and although dresses are not my thing cos i'm a bloke, i find the way you have created your lifestyle is fabulous.
I can take inspiration from you and i thank you very much for that.
Please keep going as i am interested in your success. You really come across as a very pleasant person and I get disappointed when people comment about you spitefully as you say you have experienced. There's no need for that at all. Some people are just jealous though aren't they.
You have asked for comments and so I hope you don't mind mine.
I have a desire for a peaceful life and being able to share a few words of encouragement means a lot to me.
I really do wish you well Lizzie.
I have mentioned that I sell my Art but please know that I have not commented with the desire to sell anything. I don't work like that, but sometimes people take time to like some of the things I draw. If you might consider taking the time to like a piece I have been working on you would be doing me a great service and I am grateful for your time. But don't worry if you haven't the time It's OK. I have commented here because I found you encouraging and I wanted to express that and not for any ulterior motive.
But...Just in case..... you can google me with the name “Sepia Session 9 Art and imagery”. I am just a pencil artist, and if you see anything which you like then please by all means comment and give me a like. Others will see it and I can post to the communities I belong to. My sales usually come from these.
Please Lizzy accept my good wishes. I will continue to watch your videos and I have no doubt I will learn from you. Your attitude is great.
    Cheers... Paul..

With no vents in your doors, isn't that your air vent? It draws air in from there as goes out your mushroom vents. You really don't want to block it off.

    • @davidbeakhust9797
      @davidbeakhust9797 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

I agree. The portable onboard kerosene stove is especially risky. It also produces a lot of moisture. Each kilogram (about 1.4 litres) of paraffin fuel burned produces almost 1.4 kg of water, plus over 3 kilograms of CO2, and if you block up drafts with that duvet you are also stopping fresh air getting in, and that kg of fuel needs almost 3.5 kg of oxygen to burn. If oxygen becomes depleted then Carbon monoxide is produced which can kill you before you even know it. Any combustion device needs permanent unobstructed air vents - even the gas cooker. "Clerc craft" (above) was right (though I am not so sure about the "below waterline" part. Being in a closed box is what is bad). If you do have a carbon monoxide detector, test it regularly. If you don't - then PLEASE get one, ASAP. Never put the portable stove between you and an escape route, and don't deadlock an escape door.
Sorry to be terribly preachy, but you do need to stay safe, and deaths have occurred on UK canals through use of heaters poorly maintained or poorly ventilated.
My life and that of my wife was probably saved by a carbon monoxide detector in my motorhome when the gas fridge went badly wrong in the night. It woke the whole camp site, but that was a small price to pay...

Woah, is that fuel heater safe for use indoors without a flu (chimney) fitted ? I'd be very wary of using it in a confined space as it'll be pumping carbon monoxide out (odourless killer). At the very least please make sure you have a carbon monoxide sensor / alarm. I think they even combine them with smoke alarms now.

    • @BenjaminVintageFinds
      @BenjaminVintageFinds  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Thank you for your concern, this one is made for indoor heating and was given to me by a boat neighbor who use to use it, I think they must be more common in France, however I am careful and don’t use it very often as I have radiators on the boat. @@autoculto7629 Yes. If you are thinking of getting one fitted there are many options including siting stove in middle of boat to heat up and down. Also if near kitchen whether to have a range type or or a simple oven attached. Can have a back boiler too. Mine just burns anything down one end. Temperature gets to 30C/90F+ and other end which is bedroom is just lukewarm for sleeping.

@@BenjaminVintageFinds I have a similar heater and can't see any evidence of there being an integrated carbon monoxide detector, for the small cost it would be good practice to have another just to be safe. I know you where cold but the duvet you used to block out the drafts also has the knock on effect that it reduces ventilation for combustion and can cause severe condensation. Your mooring looks wonderful, what part of the world are you, I'm in Brittany and have some great waterways here too if only we could get out and about. Best Wishes and stay safe Frank

I have a stove with backboiler which heats washing wqter and a small bathroom radiator, gravity fed essential, pumps are presurised, no good for boats.
You won't need fluffy trousers, mine are in a locker, for emergencies only.
I have a Webasto with radiators and a solid fuel stove, temp is warm to hot.
Plenty of ventilation, and don't try to dry clothing inside
Condensation is unhealthy., keep vents open, and fit two or three CO monitors at nostril height.

You should try different mobile providers see what’s best use a portable wifi router to could even have a extender outside for best performance. Some mobile companies offer higher speed than landline and even business deals could try your mobile as a hotspot to connect your laptop. Would be more reliable and your in control not relying on an unsecured network.
