Im frome Sweden and when i hear Jussi sing this song my eyes tears up becuse its so butiful and this reminds me of my childhood christmas here in Sweden. This is the most butiful Christmas song ever

Jussi's last performance was in Skansen in August 1960 and I was there with my friends! He unfortunately passed away three weeks later, only 49 years old. What a loss. RIP.
Lovely to hear this with this beautiful Lady reacting to it. Jussi was and is still one of the most beloved singers here in Sweden. A real legend. Merry Christmas!
I cry when i hear Jussi sing O helga natt. It is as if he pull at the emotional strings of my tear ducts. And the steel in his voice cuts through my soul. But i find other kinds of beauty in other voices. Like Peter Mattei. And the young Håkan Hagegård. (Listen to him in Bergman's The Magic Flute!) I mean...
Dear beautiful you. I am a 68 year old man from Sweden, and has always loved listening to Jussi. He was quite short, but sounds like a very large man. What was special here was watching you, listen to his pipe. So this was my best Jussi experience. Thanks for that. 😀😀🥰🥰
So happy that Jussi get recognised as the superb tenor he was. For me he has always been the greatest and this piece still gets played in my home for Christmas.
Also remember that the recording is so old that microphones an recorders was jsut taking a small part of the the sencitivy an frequency band as today recordings...!! He was already at his time preforming globally, and one of the biggest in history before the world become conected....
All singers in Sweden that release their own covers of this song, will always bump up against this version. It's so universally loved. Let's just say that there are not that many versions of other Swedish singers recording this song.
Among singers, Jussi is the greatest ever from Sweden. To many he is the greatest off all time. No matter what, although you don't understand the language, you recognize a master at work. That is good and... enjoyable to watch.
I remember my father singing ”O Helga Natt” every Christmas, sometimes performing in church. My father was a big fan of Jussi and used to play his records when practicing, Their voices were very alike and now I miss my father so much! We tend to take things for granted….., I never thought much of growing up in a home with music and art (my mother was an art-expert), and never really appreciated the talent my father had and developed as a hobby. Now it is all gone, and failed to pass on the traditional Swedish culture to my sons.
As a Swede, I'm proud beyond words over my Countryman and I remember reading somewhere that Pavarotti said that he would start by listening to how Jussi did it when faced with a new piece :-D
This is played on Norwegian radio each christmas. It was intended to be recorded in stereo but the three track Ampex imported from USA didn't work properly, so it became in mono instead.
A mention should be made of Adolphe Adam, the Fremch composer of this music. He also wrote the music for the very famous ballets Giselle and Le Corsaire.
It is "insane" this unearthly recording in which Jussi performs, not far from when he were to leave for glory. I don´t find words to describe what I hear in this recording. I can´t wait to meet Jussi.
It's honestly kind of difficult to wrap your head around how truly astonishing of a voice he had. I can only imagine what it would feel like to witness this in real life
People who have heard him have said that the recordings did not do him justice. I can understand that. The recording techniques have improved massively since 1960. But I believe we can all imagine the power of it all. Standing in front of that would almost literally blow you away.

I never liked Pavarotti. Also Italian language is good for opera but not for this originally French song. I would even say that Swedish language sounds here better than original French.
1:15. Fascinating she screams as he sings the swedish word “smärta” i.e. pain. Listening closely Jussi must have had the meaning in mind. So, transcending language in the phrase “för oss han dödens smärta led” ca: for us he the pain of death suffered.
This is a LIVE RECORDING. NOT studio. No retakes, no editing. Björling hits every note PERFECTLY, not a glissando to be heard. I consider him the greatest tenor of all time. I put him in front of Pavarotti, Caruso, Kauffman, Florez and Polenzani. There have been many beautiful voices throughout the times, but only one, close to perfect. Jussi Björling.
This is a song by the French composer Adolphe Adam. It's known in French as Minuit, chrétiens. Fun fact about Jussi Björling: he could sing beautiful German songs but did not understand German.

Since I listened to Jussy Bjoerling for the first time I have loved his voice, I would say he is the greatest tenor of all !!!😊😊😊
The greatest tenor ever.

Bästa tenoren någonsin.
As a Swede i am very happy with Jussi's contribution to our cultire. He left far too early. ❤

Jussi Björling is one of those performers that really capture people, even if they don't even enjoy opera to begin with. Definitely one of the greats!

Pavarotti once said that, when he was learning a new piece, he went to Björling to see how it was done.
I have heard that he also said, when compared to Jussi Björling,
"Oh, please, I am only human."
