This game had realistic graphics, they took Street fighters idea added more blood and made it more serious , it also had a good stories inspired by Enter the dragon and Chinese movies. Gameplay wise they took 6 months cos every character had the same kick and punch apart from their projectiles and special moves where as in Street fighter 2 each character had a variety of different punches and kicks apart from special moves.
Excellent vid Andy. I get very nostalgic when I see footage of arcades during the early nineties. I was a little bit older than you at the time so I was the prime demographic during the first games release. I remember the hype vividly and the arguments in the playground over which series was better, street fighter or MK lol good times.
Hey Rob. Hope you're good. Yeah it was such a great time for games wasn't it. Must have spent half my youth hanging about in various arcades. I remember Mortal Kombat first appearing so well. Cheers for watching mate
Great video Andy, brought back memories of seeing it for first time and thinking it was cool. I Never got to play the arcade version..always to many ppl round it everytime I went, lol
Cheers Danny. Yeah I remember MK and Street Fighter always being busy on a Saturday morning. Always had to queue to play and then get your arse kicked by an older kid. Such a great time in arcades, I miss those days!
Great video Andy, I remember seeing Mortal Kombat at the American Adventure Theme Park (which had great arcades and was pretty local to me). Such a great game, along with the sequel. Anything after that (with maybe the exception of number 3) I kind of lost interest. Would certainly love an original cab now though. Your video reminded me how good the game was!
Cheers Tom. Yeah I quite fancy one. Massive cab though. I'm the same mate, lost interst around MK 3 or 4. I did buy 3 but I think it peaked with 2 for me. Thanks for watching mate
I might have seen the same machine in Lyme Regis on a holiday :) Didn't get to play on it as I was a bit young, but I certainly remember seeing one. Mortal Kombat was my second Mega Drive game and the infamous DULLARD code from a SEGA Magazine's "The Official Tips Bible" proved to be very popular with my friends
Ha! No way man that's awesome. I was actually in that arcade last weekend. It's not what it used to be! All gambling machines and penny pushers. Such a shame. I can remember the blood code (ABACABB) being let out of the bag on Gamesmaster. Great times!
Yeah, pretty much the same experience I had in Minehead a few years ago and more recently in Blackpool (though did find an OutRun 2 machine). Dawlish & Dawlish Warren were my two holiday arcade haunts as we went back there many times. I recall seeing Mortal Kombat there too along with (what I now know to be a Lordsvale NEO-GEO MVS) a Metal Slug machine.
I'd actually argue that MK's gameplay though not as nuanced as SF's, is extremely important to fighting games through it's balance and accessibility(done right).
Really enjoyed that video mate, great stuff! Luckily the game industry fell short of the full heavy handed approach that the authorities took to vhs nasties , imagine having your house raided and having mortal kombat seized ! The MP that was trying to force through the prosecution bill at the time is stated on film as saying not only does watching videos nasties affect kids it also affects dogs aswell !! 😄
Thanks Minks! Good to see you back buddy. I did have a quick gander at your new vid the other day. Haha I hadn't heard that about the dogs, hilarious times. I remember so much hysteria back then about all sorts of media

That's it mate, these sort of videos take so bloody long to produce.
