He not only killed 505 soviets with his rifle, but he also got 200+ kills with m/31 suomi smg. Also those are only the kills that were confirmed, so it could be even up to 800 kills in total, who knows..
That's an absolutely TERRIFYING idea, when they say some people are built for war....he DEFINITELY was 😂
@@ExploringTheSmoke there is also Lauri Törni, a finn that foyght also in german SS battalion and also in US army in vietnam. He was known as Larry Thorne in US. If you have not seen those vids about him, i recommend to react to them too :)
That could be someone to definitely brush back up on, if I remember rightly he died in a helicopter crash and is the only member of the Waffen SS to be buried in Arlington national cemetery....which just typing that out is WILD 😂
@@ExploringTheSmoke yea,so you know him =)
@@MrBanaanipommi 💪🏻💪🏻
Now that I finally have a working car that I can drive more than 100km, without fear of it breaking down, I have to pay visit his on grave and leave candle.. Maybe on his birthday next December, it's only bout 200km away from me, He deserves that. Such a Legend, And inspiration to one of my favorite songs Sabaton - White Death.
@@ReveriKeenani he was incredible
This man actually OUTLIVED the Soviet Union, if you can believed that (he died in 2002, iirc)!!! Also, when asked by a interviewer what he felt when pulling the trigger, he is said to have answered "The recoil."
That's one cold bastard 😂 and I'm here for it! Thank you James, glad you enjoyed
Simo could shot 60 times in a minute to a target 500 feet away, with that bolt action rifle so he was very fast and accurate shooter. One accurate hit per a second, 60 times in a row, that is impressive..
@@kamikazetrading394 he was absolutely TERRIFYING
He himself did not glorify or mythologize or exult in his killing enemies; he was a modest small farmer whose country was invaded by a murderous tyrant; he did as he said “what I had to do”; he nevertheless regretted what he was required to do and asked God to forgive him.Aside from his shooting ability he was a good, typical, modest Finn placed in a cruel position. He suffered, Finland suffered and now what the Soviets and Stalin did in Karelia is being done by the Russian Federation in Ukraine. I don’t think poor Simo would have been surprised.
Sometimes it's the calmest kindest people who are capable of incredible things, thank you for watching Wayne, glad you enjoyed the video
@@ExploringTheSmoke Was Simo a Hobbit? At just a scone over 5', he's a little tall, but maybe he's got some Hobbit blood in him! ;)
@@billholder1330 😂😂😂 imagining someone as small as Mrs. Smoke being that deadly is as terrifying as it is funny haha
Thats when you know there´something personal going on with you if the entire field artillery tries to take you out of the game.
@@josef9253 and he stood there, laughing at their incompetence like a beast 💪🏻
Another great story involving sniping in WW2 is the protracted duel that Soviet sniper, Vassili Zaitsev and his German counterpart, Erwin Konig fought in the frozen ruins of Stallingrad.
The concept of sniping/long range shooting is a subject near to my heart, as my father served as Squad Designated Marksman/Sniper during his years fighting in the 25th Infantry Div (WW2, Korea, and a few months into Vietnam). In between wars he taught the skills he had learned on a hundred battlefields to the guys just coming up.
He was a hell of an instructor, as he had me shooting so early in life that i don't actually remember the first time I fired a weapon. By my estmation, I had to be around 3 years old. With his training, i actually made it to the Palma Rifle competition a couple of times.
He passed just last May, and i miss my old warrior dearly.
Larson, thank you for the comment, you were very lucky to have a father that cared to show you how to hone your skills and passion, I know Zaitsev, thanks to Enemy at the gate I believe (a half decent war film haha).
I appreciate you taking the time to write to me today, I'm glad you enjoyed the video and glad you're still here 💪🏻
@@ExploringTheSmoke Another good Winter War story is that of Aimo Koivunen, a member of the Fin Ski Patrol. He od'd on Pervatin and went on a meth addled rampage for a couple of weeks, going in and out of consciousness, without any memory of how he lost and gained equipment and clothing, along with no idea how he came to be in certain areas. If it wasn't for the war, it would be comical as all hell.
@@LarsonPetty ah yes Koivunen the man who saw god and laughed 😂
Simo Häyhä😀 a Legend and Ghost
The legend himself 💪🏻
@@ExploringTheSmoke In deed. A legend in the flesh! Yes, i did not met him personally, but i was 10 years old firealarm when he died in 2002 and saw memorial the documentary on TV. + I can still remember the stories of Lapland War 1944 and the aftermath of all 3 conflicts (Winter War 1939-1940, Continuation War 1941- 44 and Lapland War 1944- 45) from my grandma. No, she did not participated into the wars itself, but was old enough to witness the after mess, being around 10 old on 1950's.
@@Make573 wow thank you for the comment and thank you for being here
Not to mension record on Standard Target Shooting: 16 TIMES DEADCENTER IN 1 MINUTE! WITH A BOLT ACTION RIFFLE!!!! Yes, the was a built-in magzine, but even that holded only 5 rounds, meaning: you had to manually feed the loading via loading strip into the mag. So, ye had to that process basically 4 times, UNDER A MINUTE!
Oh believe me as someone well rounded in firearms, I know the insane amount of skill needed from this true warrior
Sabaton history has his story explained very well and has a few more things about him that this video doesnt mention, you should check it out. "I did what i was told the as well as i could. If every finn didnt do that there would be no finland"
"Tein sen mitä käskettiin, niin hyvin kuin osasin. Jos ei jokainen suomalainen olisi niin tehnyt, niin ei olisi suomea" (something like that end part, i dont remember it word for word but you get the idea)
I've probably heard the sabaton song about about him at some point aha thank you for watching and commenting Clash, glad you enjoyed
@@ExploringTheSmoke i think he means this vid not the music vid, its like a info vid abt simo th-cam.com/video/xsRjmq5x938/w-d-xo.html

You should check out the band Sabaton their music is about heroes and war and significant events in history
The songs Night Witches and Lady Of The Dark they worked with Yarnhub and did amazing videos, enjoy the smoke 🚬 my friend
I've oddly looked after sabaton when they did a show in London a few years back, Great band with great energy
Sabaton,,, Heavy Metal and a history lesson.,,,yes please
@@petermcgill2420 what's not to love! 💪
Not only this, but he and 31 other soldiers, as platoon, had to face 4000 enemy soldiers trought out hte winter. Not only Häyhä killed 505+ (assumed all the way up to 540) soviets with his rifle, but he also got 200+ kills with M31 Suomi SMG, handgrandes and molotov-coctails. Also those are only the kills that were confirmed, so it could be even up to over 800 kills in total...

This man saw death every single day and made it his calling! Thank you for commenting and the link, I'll check it out
@@ExploringTheSmoke Well, not excatly a "calling", but rather a "real call for duty". Soviet Union was all over the place. If it wasnt for every single soldier and supporter personel, All for one and one for all, independent Finland would not exist.
@@Make573 true the collective effort was the grand scale objective, but for a singular man to hold off the enemy and ACTUALLY strike fear for a short while is what's remarkable
@@ExploringTheSmoke True
i think that first CCCP sniper chose his position pretty well.. but but.
Haha pretty close 💪
Thank's.
@@MsElias64 thank you too
The commentator is not finnish, he doesnt say his name quite correctly. Häyhä, both Äs pronounced like yankees say the A in the word cat.
