One key reason to Simo's efficiency with his rifle was the fact it was HIS rifle. He used it to hunt, target practice, etc. He knew exactly where his sights had to be for each shot.
That makes sense then why he never used the rifle that he was awarded. It was new to him, unfamiliar. @@TheDennys21 eh, i’d disagree. *Any* weapon can perform exceptionally, old or new. And yes, you can get aquatinted with a weapon easily, but some of the weapon’s quirks can take months or years to learn about, simply due to how subtle they may be. When I was a Weblos Scout in the Cub Scouts of America, back in 2009-2010, my parents bought me a basic compound bow, a foam target (identical to the targets at summer camp), an armguard, a pair of lightweight shooting gloves, a plastic quiver, and 10 fiberglass, dullpoint (sport) arrows. In the summer, I’d set up the target in my backyard, and spend a few hours every weekend shooting. I did this for the next year or so, and then started to stop in 2011, after I crossed over into the Boy Scouts. Then, when I was a Second Class scout (roughly 3-4 years after i crossed over), I took the Archery merit badge during summer camp. The camp had compound bows, and we would shoot every day, as one of the requirements for the merit badge was to “qualify” (effectively, you had to get a certain number of points, based on where your arrows hit). Over the 5 days I spent at Summer Camp, I didn’t manage to qualify, as my arrows generally only landed in the outermost ring, or outside the target completely. A week later, my dad (the Scoutmaster of my troop) arranged for me to go back up to camp to have another shot at qualifying, this time with my equipment. I strapped the armguard and gloves on, slung my quiver on my shoulder (it was a back-worn quiver), picked up my bow, and fired the 8 arrows I’d brought (the number of arrows the requirement allowed) at the camp’s archery target. Of those 8 arrows, 1 landed in the outer ring, 5 landed in the innermost ring, and 2 were bullseyes; more than enough points to qualify. The only difference between the bows at camp and mine, was my familiarity with my bow. I still have that bow, my target, and those arrows today, but I don’t use them anymore. One of the arrows is actually mounted on my bedroom wall, next to my Eagle Scout medal.

My father's parents are from Finland. My grandfather fought in the winter Wars. Our last name is p e l t o n e n. My dad told me many stories about his father's War experience. I knew about this great sniper many many years ago. You cannot defeat a true patriot. He always put country before his own well-being. God bless him. I hope Russia doesn't try that same crap against Finland again. But they might.
I've seen many videos covered about Häyhä's story, but, this, for the first time, I was astounded by both storytellings and animations. Seeing this new video makes me think of the short story that I read two years ago entitled "Wolves of Karelia", about Häyhä's story. Amazed how long enough this man lived. I was six days old when he deceased!
he also had the most legendary and badass of sayings as a sniper when asked a single question. "What was the first thing you felt after killing your first Russian Target?" *The Recoil of my Rifle.* he also later came to invent, or rather help invent a VERY thin film layer that was added to several different types of scope to almost completely remove the glint from the scopes.

I'm tired of saying that almost every new video, but jeez, that animation is better and better!! This may be my second favourite video of yours, after the Franz Stigler story. Keep it up!👍
Being a MN born man the snow I understand. The fact that this well disaplined man uses the snow perfectly to best advantage and then iron shots his rifle. There is much respect here this I can tell you. Great work and content. What a video. So well done by narration telling the story.
He wasn’t actually given a sniper rifle with a scope by the Finnish government. Thats just an assumption in the animation. They left out the scope from his gift rifle. There is picture of him receiving the rifle. It was a more modern updated rifle on the mosin design with updated sights among other things that the regular army was using (his gift was just a custom accurized sniper version). Simo prefered to use his own older rifle he had purhased from the civil guard almost 20 years earlier as he knew the weapon and its particular idiosyncrazies inside out. Any sniper will tell you that a intimately familiar rifle is more prefered than a slightly improved rifle that you must spend a lot of trigger time to get accustomed to. Especially as you have to make do with service ammo that you are issued and he went straight back to the front lines. When Simo was injured his rifle was lost in the field. And he was evacuated immediately after being shot. He was initially evaluated as a casualty at the field hospital were he was taken to and subsequantely spotted moving in the casualty line outside the tent. There are many minor discrepancies in the video like that.
Scopes are for 'targets'. No, seriously... Having a scope in a winter landscape is asking to be detected unless you have a very very substantial shield and filter.
@@RealCadde The detection can be reduced/removed by a mesh/net. But the cold environment will likely cloud up on the scope and even cause ice crystals to form, reducing the accuracy of the scope and causing glare in scope
It's spring 1944 over the oilfields of Romania its a strategic location wich supplies 60 percent of the reichs crude oil and is vital to axis logistics. that's why the allies have it in their sights sworms of b17's are escorted by squadrons of p51 mustangs the catalac of the skies its an epic force but they are not expecting an easy ride as the cries of bandits goes out swarms of bf109's are spotted the p51 desperate tries to protect the slower b17's and a bitter dogfight ensues .a American pilot is going to score a kill on a 109 when another 109 opens up with cannon fire from just 100 yards the mustang doesn't stand a chance there is a an explosion as its last flight ends The pilot targets and trails another mustang another American plane is sent in flames to the ground. this particular pilot skill is noted by the Americans and eight mustangs team up to scream around him but the German is evading most of the fire with superb maneuvers and hard turns. but being chased in hard battle drinks fuel at an alarming rate .in the cockpit of the 109 a warning light has be going for some time now the german knows he won't make it back to base as the engine starts to splutter he bails out .one of the mustang pilot circles around on what looks like an attack run on the falling pilot but salutes and flashes past. the code of conduct among the knights of the air is not forgotten and in the receiving end of the salute is erich Hartmann the deadliest fighter ace of all time with 352 confirmed victories . He scored most of his victory against the Soviet. Well sorry for some inconsistencies
It's amazing how one man with a rifle could strike such fear into the hearts of an invading army. The animation is beautifully done, and the narration is both informative and engaging. It's a powerful reminder of the human spirit's resilience in the face of overwhelming odds.😬😬😬
Excellent work Yarnhub, and pronouncing Finnish names. I honestly expected another Simo Häyhä circlejerk, but this was done very well, a pleasure to watch. And to final words, Simo´s telegram to relatives: "Stop the funeral, deceased is missing."

I’m a Nordic ski patroller and learned all about the winter war. Finland saved the world. I met the Finnish in the UP of Michigan and admire SISU. Although I’m not Finnish but Spartan and have much in common. Thanks for the history lesson.
I grew up in the UP of Michigan. More people of Finnish decent, outside of Finland, than any place in the world. There is a Finnish Consultant office there. Ties are still maintained. The ones I knew were reserved, friendly in their own way, farmers/ loggers/ laborers. They loved their saunas & beer!! Good memories.
And what are the results? Did the Finns win? Despite the initial losses, the Red Army fulfilled the task set by the front completely. The impregnable "Mannerheim Line" combined in the west was taken, the border was moved beyond the Vyborg Bay.Resigned to the fact that the USSR promised and did so. On March 7, 1940, a Finnish delegation arrived in Moscow to ask for peace. On March 15, since all the conditions were met, the USSR agreed to sign it. In 1941, with the attack of Germany and the entire German coalition, everyone was there, from the Spaniards to the Norwegians, and even Japan. And the Finns decided to continue the war basely. Well, the results of this continuation were more than modest. And until 1944, the Froth line in this direction remained static. And on September 19, 1944, Finland, having learned that a powerful Red Army group was unfolding against it, decided to capitulate. And they began to accompany their German allies with pedals and bullets to Norway. Of course, I didn't do it so pretentiously. But it is historically true.😉
We all know your animation has been improving, but this video really set a new bar for you guys. The attention to detail on facial expressions, bodily movements, SFX, and all the other things that the animators and directors have improved upon really is incredible.
Almost night, a crimson horizon
Painting thousand lakes red
As your army approach form the east
A hunter is switching his prey
All alone, a man with his gun
Wanders into the wild
Tracks you down, you cannot hide
Once he is onto your tail
Enter the night
A flash in the darkness
White Death is heading your way
The fear of his foes
A hero at home
Hundreds will fall by his gun
You're in the sniper's sight
The first kill tonight
Time to die
You're in the bullet's way

He is steady at hand
Eye to eye, target in sight
The moment to fire has come
Hundreds of kills
A man and his rifle
Embody the sisu of Finns
Stay out of sight
And cover your head
When he pulls the trigger you're dead

What an interesting story I'm sure the animation is going to be great 😀
@Harupert Beagleton well, im eating so he is very nice
@Harupert Beagleton yarnhubs videos are usually aimed at a younger audience so this could be because it was too brutal.
Being a MN born man the snow I understand. The fact that this well disaplined man uses the snow perfectly to best advantage and then iron shots his rifle. There is much respect here this I can tell you. Great work and content. What a video. So well done by narration telling the story.
"We custom-designed this rifle for you!"
- literally has the single feature he said he prefers less
Bravo finland
@@janalimoff The last the video did mentioned it tho

'Scopes are for casuals'

Scopes are for 'targets'. No, seriously... Having a scope in a winter landscape is asking to be detected unless you have a very very substantial shield and filter.
*But Red Dot Sights and Ironsights are for Tryhards*
@@RealCadde The detection can be reduced/removed by a mesh/net. But the cold environment will likely cloud up on the scope and even cause ice crystals to form, reducing the accuracy of the scope and causing glare in scope

The pilot targets and trails another mustang another American plane is sent in flames to the ground. this particular pilot skill is noted by the Americans and eight mustangs team up to scream around him but the German is evading most of the fire with superb maneuvers and hard turns. but being chased in hard battle drinks fuel at an alarming rate .in the cockpit of the 109 a warning light has be going for some time now the german knows he won't make it back to base as the engine starts to splutter he bails out .one of the mustang pilot circles around on what looks like an attack run on the falling pilot but salutes and flashes past. the code of conduct among the knights of the air is not forgotten and in the receiving end of the salute is erich Hartmann the deadliest fighter ace of all time with 352 confirmed victories . He scored most of his victory against the Soviet.
