I've had this bike for about 4 months now and really enjoy it. A few changes here and there to make it my own. It's a 62cm frame if anyone is wondering. #gravelbike #surlybikes #bicycle
I do think you're onto something with that statement. It is such a practical skill, and to make useful stuff with a sewing machine, doesn't require mastery. I quite enjoy it and find it satisfying (once my wife showed me how to do the things that were making me frustrated 😆👍)

I agree with what you are saying about single speed. You are fortunate to have found such an excellent bicycle that is a single speed. I am still riding my old cruiser bicycle...with a few mods.

Single speed simplicity... In addition to what you mentioned, they're really easy to clean! Hose pipe, bit of rag and some chain lube. Those Schwalbe tyres/tires are brilliant! I've been running them on my commuter for 10-11 years and never once had a puncture*. * I touched the wooden bookshelf to my left as I wrote this.

If you want an indestructible tire with super long tread life and high puncture resistance look into the Schwalbe Mondial, they are a world tourer tire that was designed to take tons of miles even with loaded packs. They work in dirt and pavement. Best wishes brother.

Surly makes the Hurdy Gurdy which they say is specifically designed for tensioning semi-horizontal forward facing dropouts (like on the Cross Check). Also it's got no bottle opener so it's likely to not interfere with your original fender stay mounting position.

@@Banggeek It's not a defect. The dropouts are an old design. Bikes had that kind of dropout for many years. The hub axle can pull forward if someone is just too strong and/or the quick release skewer is a weaker model. Shimano skewers, DT skewers, and Paul Comp skewers are generally thought to be very strong

I am 6’2” and generally I prefer my frames a little on the larger side. This one being a 60CM, I have a healthy fist full of seat post so there is certainly room to go down a bit if desired. That’s the real trouble these days isn’t it? Hard to find anything lately.
I'm 6 two on a 60 by Surly. Likely should have gone smaller myself. Though it might be a bit too big for 6 footer. Try a midnight special, it's fast in the rear, and stable in front. Best bike i've ever owned.
I don't think so. If you were doing a lot of gnarly trails and single track with his then it might be. But I think that if it don't kill an actual derailleur, it probably wouldn't harm the hanger. I have owned single speed bikes with derailleur hangers for years and not once have I damaged one. My two cents 👍
I'm also ordering me a bike stand, I'm tired of flipping the bike over, and I ordered me an affordable cyclist repair kit, comes with everything I'll need, I can true wheels with break pads, I can almost eye bent derailleur hanger.
Yeah it’s a cheap rack (used to sell them for $15) from Nashar. Sadly, they don’t make it anymore. I had two from about 15 years ago and I’d wished I bought 10 of them back in the day. Decent size, cheap and light 👍
I would certainly agree with you on that. We're not flat flat here but in most of my riding from home I only have one big hill. And I hate it. Brings me to a crawl, standing out of the saddle just to keep moving. Last about 6 minutes and feel like it almost kills me every time. I wish I could flatten that hill! 😆👍

Yeah I hear you. They look so sweet and the steel is able to flex and move a bit so the right is usually very comfortable on these steel frames

@@Banggeek It's not a defect. The dropouts are an old design. Bikes had that kind of dropout for many years. Just bought a 58 crosscheck, I'm 6'2" and the fit is spot on a 60 would be a stretch even for me
