  • A video I've been meaning to make for a while, as I've been meaning to change my coolant for a while! Now it is done :)
    I am not an expert and not every bike is the same but overall changing coolant is effectively the same, drain the coolant, the reservoir, refill.
    I didn't flush the cooling system in this video as the old coolant looked pretty clean, you on an older bike I would recommend that.
    If you enjoyed the video please hit the like button, it pleases the gods of TH-cam and then let my videos do well :D Also if you're new here please consider hitting that subscribe button for more bike related content :)

    For draining the coolant fully, you take the battery out and tucked in at the back is the tube that you separate in the middle and force it down past the swinging arm. Some people say to attach some string to it in order to pull back up due to lack of space but I got it back up no bother. That way you get rid of 100%.
    I also used a 1 inch plastic tube from up above the screen down to the thermostat housing to save getting in with a jug.
    Great video. Keep em coming.

    I didn't need to change my coolant on my CBF but I did need to check the level and top it up. Your video was very helpful to do this, so much appreciated.
    I also removed the restraining wire that runs from the tank to the frame. I couldn't really see a purpose for it and it's much easier to get the tank out of the way without it needing to be undone each time. I found I needed to fully release the rear tank mount too, and slide the tank back to clear the fairing sides, and then lift and prop it out of the way. I have the half faired version of the CBF (no lowers) so in some ways easier to do. The coolant level in the rad was fine, so that put my mind at rest. Just needed to top up the reservoir. Cheers :)

      @TheGorillaBiker  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Not at all, very glad it was helpful :) That's why I make them :)
      I must do the same and leave it off it's just a pain and not neccessary I don't think, in a baaaaaaaaaaad accident maybe but I mean, you probably don't need to worry about it then anyway.
      Yeah if you want to be gentler than me that's the way to do it, I just loosen them all and coax them to the side :P The lowers have to come off to allow it so definitely add some prep time too :) Good stuff :) Many more happy miles on the CBF then :)

    I change coolant on my Moto Guzzi bikes each time I ride them! :D
    I've done it on a couple of bikes over the years, probs the first was a Kawasaki AR125 back in my very early days of riding, and the last, am guessing was on the KTM 300 EXC that I rebuilt into a supermoto back in 2011... so not had to do it recently, or on more complicated motorcycles.

    Good things to know if I ever get a bike that has coolant. Mine is small enough displacement to only be oil cooled. I say "if" because I imagine any electric bikes of the future likely won't need coolant…but maybe to increase performance and range they will 🤔

    Does that process drain/fill the water jacket too? Thanks for sharing, I've never seen a Honda with the cap there. The Blackbird has a pressure cap on the radiator and the thermostat on the back of the engine with no cap.

    • @TheGorillaBiker
      @TheGorillaBiker  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      What do you mean by the water jacket? As in the channels? It does yes, they drain by gravity(not 100%, you have to flush with water etc to get 100% out) but enough that the fresh volume would cover any bits of old stuff.
      The amount of different routings and setups that bikes have is actually crazy, you'd think it'd be something that was a little more standard!

    i cant believe you used tinshears to cut off that ziptie
    also, do you use premixed coolant or do you use concentrate and than mix it yourself depending on type of riding and weather you expect to have in next couple of months?

    • @TheGorillaBiker
      @TheGorillaBiker  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Don't judge me, it was the closest cutting choppers I could get my hands on.
      Premixed, motul and stuff have good formulations readily available so it's just easier. Sad/good thing about Ireland is the weather doesn't change much, this coolant is good from -12 to 50 degrees....so I'm well covered!

      But it looks so delicious...it actually doesn't even as it's like greasy water really :/ But yes good shout, not something you want in you.
