Also do some research into the “project” (not really a band) And you’ll see why BandWhore is the perfect name. Haha. It’s going to be a massive release. 🤟🏼🤟🏼🤟🏼
The reason the band is called Bandwhore is because there's gonna be like 60 different musicians involved in the project. Also Derek is THE MAN. Both his forum, and George Kollias' were the best back in the day. I miss those days
The better question is, if he’s still playing this way at his age, why can’t Lars properly play Dyers Eve. Also, new David Diepold: Obscura video out and new Chris Turner video, both of which you’re probably aware of, but…yeah. Best drummer reactor, btw. Too many people try too hard.
I remember seeing Hate Eternal videos back when TH-cam really got moving and it was absolutely a mindfuck to see Roddy just yeet the shit out of those drum parts casual Friday like.
Derek is and always will be the best. I bought Nile's "Black Seeds of Vengeance" in like, the 6th grade and had never heard anything like it. I had no clue about drumming and my tiny prebuscent brain imagined that he had to record every individual drum separately. I remember when those early Hate Eternal cams came out I'd skip class to go to the library to watch them. Thanks Derek, glad you're still killing it!
The first time I got angrily aroused by music and didn't know what to do besides punch a 5 gallon bucket of paint was when I heard Hate Eternal for the first time.
Derek Roddy is the shit!! Also, I will keep recommending James Stewart dude! He's natty af too! And something totally different, but Deafheaven's drummer, Daniel Tracy is an absolute beast too with insane stamina! OH, and Mike fuckin' Smith from Suffocation was also ridiculously good back in the day!
Another amazing view Craig thank you. I also love Derek and why I love his I love his style of playing because is blast are really hearable especially left-hand which is the biggest issue for most of the drummers. He definitely has this amazing sound because he plays with only his wrists
hate eternal- behold judas... thats the fucking song to react to. Derek has been a monster god in death metal drumming for like 25 years. One take... the legend.
@@DerekRoddyDrummer Wow, thank you Derek for explaining and taking the time to respond to comments! Now I remember what you told on Drumeo about putting your index finger on top of the stick to get a higher pitched snare sound. That Drumeo lesson has really benefited me in developing an effective practice regime by setting time limits for every excercise (something you told the audience). Massive thank you for the inspiration and everything you have done for extreme metal drumming. Looking forward to hear more Bandwhore stuff🤘
Derek Roddy has the claim to the greatest blast beat ever imo, about to minutes into The Victorious Reign by Hate Eternal he plays a genuinely breathtaking blast where he adds in a rimshot that totally changes the complexion of the song. Such an incredible drummer.
Even though all the goats have been mentioned, I still think the true blast apex is Hannes Grossmann. I mean just look at those old ass Necrophagist videos. Also around the same time, these were truly the goats haha
I was lucky enough to see hate eternal live in the early 2000's in Perth, Western Australia they ripped hard and I remember the venue was double booked with an electronic gig so they were denied an encore, on the way out there was some very angry and unimpressed metal heads taking it out on furniture glass doors and so on...the good old days 🤘
@@markcooperartcomofficial maybe so man. But the whole Machismo thing in metal is so tired and stale. You like what you like and I can see tons of folks loving this band but the name puts me off a bit.
All the new ‘popular’ death metal bands are terrible. It’s either super duper technical death core plastic sounding ish type stuff or the really bad bands with no chops trying to rip off bolt thrower and obituary stuff because they can’t play fast at all really or barely. The days of prime hate eternal are long gone.
Hahaha
Cheers Craig. 🤟🏼🤟🏼🤟🏼

Love seeing you here lol
Ohhh that makes sense, cool!
Yooo mike!
Those forums were so sick. That’s when I found out about George’s 16 week double Bass program

I Played bass on a couple tracks on this project. So many talented players involved, hence the name "bandwhore". Cheers from NC🤘🍻

Fantastic call back to the Some Kind Of Monster documentary. So glad you noticed the t shirt!
Derek is the man, i remember burning cds for a friend with his lessons... also thanks for the content man, really appreciate it
The most Based band on the planet. Over 60 different drummers in 1 band
The first time I got angrily aroused by music and didn't know what to do besides punch a 5 gallon bucket of paint was when I heard Hate Eternal for the first time.
He literally rehearses in a room filled with snakes
Derek Roddy is king
king of all kings

Derek also has an amazing collection of Black Head Pythons. Cool guy.
I think Derek, Pete Sandoval and George Kolias have the best claim to best blasters ever
Longstreth 🤘
Best DM drummers in general
The tempo changes in this song make me so happy, like twitch of the death nerve, if you havent checked them out you are missing out!!!
Derek Roddy, the OG! That shirt he is wearing though, damn....

Death Metal is very much alive.

It's interesting to see how Derek's left arm always seems to be kinda tense when blasting, but his power and consistency are unmatched.
Tension is where the “sound” is. No tension, no sound…. It’s a balance.

To me his blast beats always sounded more "in your face" than any other drummer, however fast and technical they be

Had it right the first time. Octopuses
Homie doing the solo has a defeated sanity shirt....only solidifies how good this band is LOL
a react to a drumplaythrough of them would be nice
Lille Gruber is fucking amazing. Ridiculously good drummer AND guitarist.

Not gonna lie, the Serpent Ride actually sounds wild when crashed in comparison to how heavy it is 👀
Little Johnny ass candle 🤘🥁🤘
Need to check out SAOR! Their live performance in lockdown was amazing! Natty as baws!
I have that same DW acrylic kit, but for some reason, I don't sound exactly like Dereck Roddy. I'm gonna call DW customer service.
Hell yeah!
the goats\m/
Craig, you heard of Serpents Rise - Dereks side project?
I would never ever see a band called BandWhore and go “oh yeah i should check that out” but it rips and i agree
"Derek Roddys Rod of Truth" :/
Roddy Roddy Vipers
5:32 lmao Craig :D
You should check out Fotis Benardo or some Ben Harclerode stuff..both nutty
Octopie
But the pink hair? How can you take anyone seriously with pink hair?
Want a Dankpods review
did derek make it over to twitch yet?
