Funny story. Saw X with a buddy back in 2013 in Atlantic City, they opened up for Blondie. It was the same time as the Miss American Pageant, and they thought it would be good to usher all the contestants in to see Blondie, but they came in during X, sat in front of us, and lasted only 10 minutes, and back out they went, guess X was too much for them. 😂
Just had a listen to "With or Without You" from Rick White & The Sadies & was struck by the chorus line "Oh what a state I am in". It reminded me that the song The State I Am In" was the sole reason that Belle & Sebastian were chosen by the student run label A&R team at Stow College in Glasgow. The team were struck by the similarity between Stuart Murdoch's voice & Donovan. As the label (Electric Honey) normally produced 1,000 3 track CDs it became clear that Stuart had sufficient material to produce a full album which he insisted was on vinyl & so "Tigermilk" was recorded in one week. The group were signed to Jeepster Records where they delivered further B&S albums & offshoots such as Isobel Campbell. More recently Belle & Sebastian signed to Matador which has benefitted them greatly. I have also found out that they are very popular in South America which is surprising to me for a band that started off in Glasgow, Scotland. Hope you are keeping well Mazzy.✌️🏴
New music,.new release last week. I received my preorder of the newest LP of an Indie band I follow,.Lake Street Dive,.Good Together. Rachel Price is the lead singer, what a voice.
Early Daze is a gem! One of the best NYA releases overall. The tracks that Whitten wrote, especially Look At All The Things, sound amazing here and better than the Crazy Horse album to me. Birds with the vibes! And nice to hear the alternate vocal take of Down By the River. Love the Shellac album, lean and mean and a sad but amazing record for Albini to leave us with. Will have to hear the Rick White (Eric's Trip / Elevator) with Sadies as I did dig them. Need to give the Pratt a listen, dig her as well. Nice to see the new music stuff!
Enjoyed your new music video! I’m really enjoying the McCartney One Hand Clapping 👏 Good live performance and the drumming on this makes the album for me! McCartney should have kept him!!
I'm seeing The Sadies on Thursday. Really looking forward to seeing them again, but it'll be weird seeing them without Dallas. I'll probably pick up that Rick White album at the gig, if they have it there. I was listening to the new Hermanos Gutierrez album the other day. Unfortunately, like there last album, it doesn't have a UK or European release, so it costs a fortune on import. Great stuff though. I played it back to back with their last album, and they sound very similar. But if it's not broke, don't fix it. I got the Beth Gibbons album. It sounds lovely, if rather bleak. I suppose there are bright spots of strength amongst the pain and loss. Cheers - Hed
Hell Yeah, Neil Young! I literally do not know any of the other Albums. Its getting harder and harder coming up with cool albums to talk about and show. Do best albums from 74' Albums turning 50. 50th Anniversary type videos. Awesome Video Mazzy!!!
I disagree. There are so many albums that I don’t know about. Mazzy showed some here. Also channels like Vinyl Richie, Psychederek, and Cosmic Vinyl show a great range of albums. Many that are not common at all. If you want a 1974 list, check out Vinyl Richies.
I enjoyed the descriptions of the new records and seeing the colorful vinyl. I remember the first time I heard Seal "Crazy " from his first album. I wanted to hear the song again because it was a new creative sound.
Apropos LA punk bands, I've recently bought an album of the Minutemen recorded live at San Francisco's "legendary" [per the sleeve] Mabuhay Gardens. I don't recollect this being a venue in the city which you have ever previously mentioned, and was wondering about the place and how it derives the legendary status.
The Rick White Sadies album sounds almost exactly like most Jonathan Wilson albums. Especially check out Jonathans 'Dixie Blur' album. Psychedelic music by a very talented musician.
I loved The Sadies - Colder Streams but I was not aware of the recent Rick White And The Sadies release. I'll be checking it out. You're at least the second person to feature that Hermanos Gutiérrez - Sonido Cósmico album (Bob Bradley may have as well)...so now I'm curious. At the halfway point of the year, my favorite album of 2024 is King Hannah - Big Swimmer. Cheers!
Ah, It's a bummer that I haven't been able to find that Rick White and the Sadies record anywhere here in the Netherlands. I think that Hermanos Gutierrez album is quite good, but their previous album was more impressive: El Bueno Y El Malo. My opinion is that The Black Keys record is quite okay, but here too it sounds heavily compressed.
I bought the Hermanos Gutierrez album too, should be here soon. I listened to it after watching their What’s In My Bag video actually. Their sound reminds me a bit of Khruangbin 👍🏻 And Beth Gibbons… hmmm indeed one of the best albums of the year so far! Speaking of which, have you heard the new album from Pakistani singer Arooj Aftab?
The cover album of the Sadies is quite nice. If there are 500 it isn’t a test pressing. However cool that it is a signed version. Of all these the Neil Young seems the most interesting. I by no means want all the Neil Young releases but this one sounds great.
I have often felt that McCartney never releases his best stuff, e.g. the extra tracks on the Ram extended, that stuff kicked. The "One Hand Clapping" is the same. A kick ass Paulthat should have been released long ago. Neil is the same.this new /old Crazy Horse stuff is flat out a brilliant release. I hope they both have stuff like this "lying around".
One Hand Clapping has, for me, the definitive version of Live And Let Die. And the studio version of Soily sounds so much better than my bootleg. Thanks Mazzy!! And I haven't thought about Black Keys in years...think I may need to check out that new one.

Thank you very much from New Delhi India
Thanks for the Rick White and the Sadie’s album tip, loving it and just ordered my copy 🎧❤🔊

The Beth Gibbons album is one of my all time favorites
It’s very good
Some great stuff! It's so good you remind us there is more than just another reissue. Some really excellent releases

Thanks Mazzy. I've been on the fence about the Neil Young.

You need to check out the Spanish band Guadalupe Plata. You will absolutely love them!

‘All Trains’ is amazing. The clarity and precision is remarkable. Hoping more of their albums get as they are scarce on Discogs.
Black Keys from beautiful Akron. The cover of their album Ohio Players is fantastic! Thanks Mazzy!
I would strongly recommend checking out the new Felice Brothers album, Valley of Abandoned Songs. Clever songwriting and stellar musicianship.
Thx for that tip, they are great❤
Black Keys from Beautiful Akron with a great cover on their Ohio Players Album Thanks Mazzy for this Video!
Mazzy, really enjoyed this! I do ENVY your “X” test pressing! Love that band but zI missed out on that one! #mazzylovesus🙏🏻❤️🎧

You should check out swedish psych band Dungen 🎵
”Dina ögon” means ”Your eyes” in swedish and ”Oas” means ”Oasis”
Really interesting music.

If you haven’t heard the cutworms check out their album nobody lives here anymore. I think you enjoy it.😮
first impression, with the thumbnail, was of an Ozric Tentacles album i don't own 🤭
VC Little Feet ban…ignored again 😢
Mazzy in colour🤣 I've really been enjoying the Neil record. What a loss Danny Whitten was😢
Mazzy, I need your help to find a genuine abbey road half speed master which I own but seems to have no trace on the internet, I need your expertise
