Great idea for a series of videos David. Well done. That tankard was a real stunner. I really found it interesting and am looking forward to the next one. Cheers,
The teapot, oh how adore this, its fluidity of form, and subtle grace! An honest quality to it, and beautifully engraved. I am not as familiar with York silver so thank you for the information! Will definitely do more study on it. From what I have learned from you today, I gathered about 1,800,-2,000-I was definitely off!
How intricate the tankard, looks pristine, and love the gilding. What does it weigh? I estimated 4500 😊 I would not buy it, a little too busy for me. But if it were gifted would put it on the mantlepiece.
I guessed £2.5k for the teapot, a bit off, £1800 for the badge/medal, not far, then before the valuation I guessed £8k for the tankard, so pretty pleased with the guess even though the final hammer price was quite a bit lower.
Lovely tankard. I have a matching pair of silver goblets that were made to commemorate the 350th anniversary of The Company of Master Cutlers. Perhaps I should get them valued.
Love the concept. As far as my skill in valuation of the items is concerned, all I’ll say is that I’m glad I’m not a dealer; would have been broke and starving years ago. Good fun though. What might be a good idea is to split the video into two parts, the description and auction house estimates in part 1 - with hopefully a good number of people commenting on their valuations. Then in part 2 the auctioning and hammer price. Leave it for you to decide when to upload part 2 . Stops people just scrolling to end and makes it a little more challenging. Just a thought I’ll shut up now !
If you continue these shows, might I suggest to mention or show on the screen what the current gold or silver weight price of the item being valued. Perhaps that would help us in our guessing of the auction price. Also, these items are mostly for collectors. The average "Joe" would normally be interested in such items. Am I correct in that assumption?
Thanks Bill. With items of this quality, the silver value doesn’t really matter a great deal, but a good point when it comes to cheaper pieces. I’m keen to show higher value items and would love it if someone watched the video and it helped them discover something of great value of their own!
Dear David Harper, you two antique STARS are the best items in the video. Thanks to you two David's for the countless hours of antique entertainment you guys provide.
York silver? Never seen any here in the USA at all. I guessed 1700, dead bang on. I did score a Sheffield plate teapot two years ago for... 2 quid... in a charity shop. It was a friend's Chanukka gift. The elephant livery badge. You're going to have badge collectors, knife guys, elephant lovers and ...call it 700 in my neck of the woods. In yours... no idea. I had that tankard figured for the thick end of 5000 pounds if it was silver, no matter who made it, without knowing anything about it. - it has to be 500 in metal alone. I was only off by 10%.(LOL)
I did not not to guess the price on the teapot, but I think it is much too expensive, I will never giver anything higher than 50 ! The badge max 5 for my money ! The Elephant in the room thing should be melted, so max the silver value, VERY ugly and BORING, snobbery !

Cheers Doug, some cracking items to come too!!
Dear David Harper, keep up the good work! Come skiing in Colorado this year? Bring your friends. Thanks for making fun entertainment! !
I’ll be uploading another quiz on Wednesday at 6pm amd then another on Friday at 6pm. Some seriously good items coming your way!
i overprized everything, the story sells it. Love your energy David H
Thanks David. Very enjoyable. Please keep doing these. You're the best!
Cheers Tim
I know David from Thomas Watsons. Great auctioneer.
Thank you D&D, informative and fun!,
Wellcome back.
Wellcome back. Exiting. Love the auctioneer
He’s great isn’t he. A proper expert too!
The only one I took a guess on was the silver tankard - £3,000 , so I was a bit out. Thanks David.
David, really like the actions.
Cheers Cody. Some mega pieces on Wednesday and then another one on Friday!
Wow ! Can't believe that tankard, i've never seen anything like it.

Fun - I like these vids. Got the tanker right on.
Lovely tankard.

Just a thought
I’ll shut up now !
Thanks Pale, some good ideas there. Cheers, David
I guessed 6000 on the silver tankard. All 3 objects were amazing, I’d be happy to own any of them.

The livery badge is fascinating, I wouldn’t buy it but thought more along the lines of 950 😬
I thought that Sheffield was the main place for cutlery in the UK
I wouldn't mind having a few pints out of the tankard
Which is your favourite item? …it’s tankard for me!
Dear David Harper, you two antique STARS are the best items in the video. Thanks to you two David's for the countless hours of antique entertainment you guys provide.
@@skiracer thanks so much Ski, I’ll be making some more shows with David Elstob soon!
All mine were far too optimistic. Good thing that I Am not in the trade.
Oh my, I was sure the tankard would go for 10k! What a great lump of silver, and definitely not for use. Someone picked up a bargain there
Rare thing for sure!

Yes, York silver is very rare. One to keep an eye out for!
Nowhere near with my valuations on these items. :-(
Wow I'm £700 out, I definitely don't know anything about antiques
sadly i was thinking 1800. i would use it anyways
Me too!
I've often wondered how some silver goes black and yet others stay like they were just made
I loved all three pieces, but was so off the mark price wise. The tankard should have gone for twice the price.
It was my favourite
Georgian silver teapot could be worth £1000
Medal,£900
£6000 for the tankard
£500 out, at least I tried
£700 out again

Why don't you wear gloves for holding silver?
