Culture Quest: Ukraine, Chapter 2 - Mystetskyi Arsenal and Olesia Ostrovska-Liuta

I went into this interview expecting it to be a discussion about how Olesia - the director of Mystetskyi Arsenal - and her colleagues have been managing their personal lives and the museum during the war, especially at the beginning of the war when Russian tanks were on the doorstep of Kyiv, decimating suburban cities like Bucha and Irpin and targeting Ukrainian cultural sites including museums. What I got in addition was an incredible discussion of the war’s context with Ukrainian cultural history. For Ukrainians watching this, you know your history and will likely be nodding along, but to the rest of you watching this, much of that part of our talk will likely be a bit of a revelation. I know it was to me, which made it the perfect way to open up this episode.
