polpot killed my brother when he was only 7 years old. they cut off my brother's head and put it in a bucket full of mud. they are murderers. When the Vietnamese soldiers came to the rescue, I volunteered to join their army. Thank you to the Vietnamese soldiers who saved our country from the evil hands of polpot

I used to hate Viet Cong like the girl in the film because I lived through those wars in my early teenage years. After I went through the Khmer Rouge regime, I had every reason to thank the Vietnameses for ousting the Khmer Rouge. I lost many family members during the Khmer Rouge. I've been living in the USA since 1982 after going through multiple refugee camps in Thailand. I graduated from high school in 1985 and later graduated from Washington State University. I considered myself very blessed with all the help from different people everywhere, including the UNHCR. I don't have hate against anyone anymore. Instead, I'm doing my best to help the world a better place for everyone.

In 1979, my grandfather commanded a platoon from VietNam to go to Cambodia to destroy polpot. After that mission he can return to visit his family for the first time. But unfortunately, they sent us a picture of him, which means he died on the battlefield. He was too young at the time and he had never met my mother-his only 3 year old little daughter in hometown. We lost him forever, miss him really❤️‍🩹. So far our family has not received his remains. Therefore we are planning a trip to find his remains, wish us luck!!

This is propaganda, very untrue. These Khmer Rouge killed almost half of their own people and many innocent Vietnamese civilians in the bordering towns. They invaded 20 km into Southern Vietnamese soil. I’m not for communism in Vietnam but at this time Vietnam just completed the Vietnam War and didn’t want to get into another war. Vietnam tried many times to work this out peacefully with them, but they didn’t leave Vietnam alone. They thought that with the Chinese backing, they were strong enough to invade Vietnam. Vietnam did exactly what any country would have done. It defended itself and launched the war into their land and captured the whole Cambodia within 30 days. The Khmer Rouge ran with their tails in their pants into the jungle of Thailand. Just as Vietnam was ready to chase them out of the Thai jungle, their backers, the Chinese, invaded northern Vietnam in 1979. Vietnam fought multiple wars back to back up to this point and still able to whup the Chinese and pushed them back their land. Never invade Vietnam. Who taught who a lesson…:-))) lol

she wanted to kill vietcong because at that time cambodia was neutral and the vietcong intruded into our country without our permission. in conclusion the americans and vietcong brought the war to cambodia. the vietnamese and americans destabilised cambodia which opened the way for the khmer rouge to take power

Think bigger, China used Cambodia as a player to drag down Vietnam since they don't want Vietnam get out of control, they want atleast 2 things, keep Vietnam under their control as North Korea, weak and don't come closer with USSR, everything started since late 1960s and goes public at 1972 when Deng Xiao Ping met Nixon in Shanghai. The tragedy is both Vietnam and Cambodia is the price they paid to US to gain US's trust and support when they don't happy with USSR. They even reject the plan of Vietnam to get united, they want to maintain the divide of Vietnam. Small and weak countries alway used by big countries to serve their interest.

As a ethinc chinese child whos family all oringinated from cambodia for about 5-6 generations before me, my grandfather, my father, and my grandfather's father told me about stories of living under pol pot's rule. It was gruesome as they told me everynight they hear screams and howling of wolves who came to eat the corpse of people who were killed by the khmer rouge. During the vietnamese invasion of cambodia, the khmer rouge rounded up almost every man in the place where my grandfather, my father, and my great grandfather to fight the vietnamese. They were handed guns but they ran away when the khmer rouge leader wasn't looking. They ran for the vietnamese troop with a sort of white rag to avoid being shot, god bless the young vietnamese solider who didnt shoot my family and let them through. They gave my family food, water, which was little but better than whatever they've recieved. My family always spook highly of the vietnamese who invaded cambodia to overthrow the khmer rouge. But many other khmer families harbored hatred of the vietnamese because they think them of invaders who took our landed and kill our people. I don't see it as such because it was "our people (khmer rouge" who killed over 1 million of khmer people and when the vietnamese come they came to get rid of the killer of our kind. God bless every single family who went through this, the young men and women who fought and die who didn't have to die.

What you see on the media is a small group of middle class in the one famous big city in Vietnam - Ho Chi Minh City aka Saigon. People have to live with this state's oppression and get used to it because they cannot do anything about it. Systematic corruption from the political machine to the local government's office next door. It's horrible.

Cambodia's history today needs to be clearly written about the genocide that the Khmer Rouge have caused in Cambodia. America, China and some Southeast Asian countries have helped the genocides kill more than 2 million Cambodians. a shame they are trying to forget. At that time, Cambodia was like a hell, but no one, no country came to save this poor nation. only Vietnam, a country that has just escaped the war with the US. Vietnam saved this country. I think these journalists made this film to smear Vietnam. That's wrong, in 2018 the international court sentenced the killers in Cambodia. Young people need to be educated so that they understand who is the killer and who abets them, and they need to be grateful to those who have helped them in difficult times.

Vietnam planned to withdraw its troops in 1982 after helping the Cambodian government rebuild the country. but the Cambodian government asked Vietnam to keep its forces because they could not afford to run the country against the Khmer Rouge genocides who were gathering forces near the Thai border at that time. Vietnam then agreed to withdraw gradually and completely in 1989. During that time, Vietnam both helped Cambodia fight Polpot and helped them build a strong army. Vietnam has helped rebuild the houses of the people that have been destroyed, and supported Cambodia to rebuild its economy and operate the state. It can be said that everything Cambodia has today is thanks to Vietnam's help. If there was no Vietnam, only with genocide and its madness, today Cambodia would be zero. My parents ended up teaching at Kent State in the Fall of 1970 the US government bombed Cambodia Christmas time 1969. Students protested spring 1970. Thirteen were shot at Kent State.
A small sacrifice compared to the peoples of Southeast Asia but I grew up there among the reptiles of Ohio.
As Chomsky noted the mass murderer from the bombings in eastern Cambodia mass recruited the survivors to the Khmer Rouge. Caleb Maupin was pointing out that the CIA use the Khmer rouge against the Vietnamese government.

basically, this is not my data
The previous Cambodian regime hated Vietcong because they refused to leave their country. Therefore, their king allowed the US to bomb their country to drive Vietcong away, which made a part of the people angry and joined Polpot and took power from the king.
But Polpot hated Vietcong and wanted to take back southern Vietnam the clay of their once empire, that's why they invaded their former lands first and chased and killed the existing Vietnamese capitalists, which has been there from the early days of Indochina... or those who fled the Vietnamese communists. They also massacred intellectuals out of fear of potential subversion from Western intellectuals and opponents. In short, a great genocide...
The hate in this video came from the previous time where the king still remain there as described in the video's description
"Three months ago Cambodia was invaded by the American and Vietnamese armies" -> Bombing?

They lie in English that he is 14. If he said fourteen that would be "ayu buen dap", that is a very different sound, cannot be confused. I think this discredits the trustworthiness of this Thames TV documentary and Thames TV as a whole. I think they are trying to make it look like he is more minor than he actually is.

The holocaust they perpetrated came right out of Mao's book on revolution-empty the cities, kill all the educated, create a socialist hell and destroy a country. Other Khmer Rouge were trained by Ho Chi Minh's communist party in North Vietnam. They have no regrets for what they did. The leaders at the KR trial in Phnom Penh proved that. Place the blame where it belongs-on the communist policy of Mao, Pol Pot, and Ho Chi Minh. I was there in the Vietnam War-the communists ruled by terror, torture, and violent assassination of South Vietnamese school teachers, village , and SVN administrators. A revealing question .... Who supported Pol Pot and his Khmer Rouge to the bitter end ?
    # First, it's China - Directing, encouraging and supporting them to wipe Cambodia clean of Cambodians, making it ready for Chinese advisors, soldiers, workers, and settlers to flood in and turn it into another XinJiang (a China's conquered province)
    # Next, USA - Supporting and using Pol Pot and his Khmer Rouge (plus prodding Deng XiaoPing's China) to exact revenge on the Vietnamese who had dared to shoot down their B52s and kick the American new colonialists who were taking on the mantle of the French old colonialists, out of their country Vietnam
    # Then, Thailand, Singapore, .... - Lackeys following orders from the USA (and from China's in the case of Singapore)
    # Lastly, UK, Australia, .... - USA's vassals.

You are wrong!!!!!!!! the bombing in Cambodia was not in 1975!!!!! it was in 1969 or 70, i don't remember. The ousting of Sihanouk was the best thing that the Cambodians did at that time. You are either too young or hasn't borne yet. His Royals entourages were so corrupted, money was the only thing they think of. He was ready to sell his country to China, luckily we kicked him out in time. Did you Know that we lost the war to Pop Pot because of him? at first Lon Nol's army won lots of battles, but Lon Nol party also had lots of bad people that stole soldier's money. so the morals were low, then Sihanouk broad casts from N. Vietnam & Peking to have all youths raised against Lon Nol. That was how we lost the war to POl Pot. Later Sihanouk shamelessly returned to Cambodia but Hun Sen he was & still is a KR. only give him his title as the Puppet King!!!!!!!!! i never forgive Sihanouk for this, may all the suffering and deaths of all Cambodians haunt his soul to Eternity, may he never rest in peace or reborn to any human!!!!. I, personally, don't think so.
Cambodia cannot afford a stable and independent politics position.
Cambodian governments ( Pol pot, Sihanouk and now Hunsen) are easily provoked by ultranationalism about Khmer Empire and manipulated due to its over-dependence on other countries, specifically China.
Now they have multiple parties, surely the situation would get worse. Foreign forces would use parties to affect Cambodia politics. The ultranationalism and over-dependence mentality of Khmer would be exploited to destabilize Cambodia in domestic society and provoke conflicts in foreign affairs.
China did use Khmer wisely under Pol pot regime to befriend with America, destabilize Vietnam and confront with the Soviet. Deng Xiaoping successfully made the relationship with America by helping Pol Pot.
No wonder China will use Cambodia again in the near future for its plan to replace America as world super power. But Vietnam that time surely will not help, and watch China turn you guys into hell for its benefit
Vietnam is not alone now, and would only defense ourselves, not intervine into Cambodia whatsoever
Hunsen has betrayed Vietnam and followed China as Pol Pot did, sold Sihanoukville, Ream base and coast line to China.
Singapore and many other countries have proposed to kick Cambodia out Asean as it is easily manipulated by foreign forces against the whole community benefits.

An impressive and intelligent young Khmer girl joined the Army to help defend the Khmer motherland. We had the courage and ability among the populace, even back then, but lack the competent leadership at the top to lead them. Shame. Hopefully that we will never be put in this position ever again.

Hi Boran, this is Sithanary Kim, the girl in the interview. We were not forced to join the army, we were just training the Commando tactics that the leader of our country implement to all the high schooler in Cambodia to practice to prepare themselves in case we were needed to recruit to the army. This is the first time that i really saw the video of my self after being recorded since 1970. Thank you for your support and peace to you , your family and our country Cambodia.

That 19 year old girl encapsulates the tragedy and horror of it all. What a waste ! How such an idealistic, intelligent person was dragged into the quagmire of the Indochinese conflict. Her naivety is also a reflection of the typical attitude of well to do Khmers of the time. 1970 was the year when Lon Nol's coup d'etat began Cambodia's tragic decline into destruction and misery. If only they'd known at the time that the real villains who would eventually bring them hell were not the Vietcong but their own radicalized compatriots, the Khmer Rouge.

I think the date is wrong or something... The Vietnamese didn't actually go into Cambodia until 1978, so idk who are the enemies they are talking about??

    • @Monatio79
      @Monatio79 ปีที่แล้ว +2

@@alexfriedman2047 No, you are wrong. The Vietnamese- both the US backed South and the North- did indeed invade Cambodia after the 1970 Lon Nol coup. The US bombing and brief incursion of ground troops into Cambodia led to the North Vietnamese/Vietcong, who up until then were only in the border areas, to push further into the country. It was these North Vietnamese who aided the Khmer Rouge and did the majority of the fighting in the early phases of the war in Cambodia.
The Vietnamese (by then unified under the north) invaded Cambodia again in 1979 to overthrow Pol Pot and remained for the next ten years.

@@Monatio79 On second thought you might be right. They are not dressed in the uniforms that the Khemer Rouge wore. Very interesting. It was just minor skermishes though. It wasn't a full scale ground invasion by any side, although we did bomb the f outa cambodia because of the HoChiMin trail.

@@Monatio79 The Khmer Rouge were originally communist and were allies of Vietnam at that time. They allowed Vietnam to use Cambodian land to move called the Ho Chi Minh trail. But after internal conflicts The party's soldier, Polpot, destroys those who think against him , Since then, the Khmer Rouge became 1 organization according to sterilityism with the ideology of Mao Zedong. 1974-1978 Red Khome was pulled by China and the US behind the strings to destroy the border and kill hundreds of thousands of Vietnamese people. 1978 Vietnam was forced to attack again and destroy Ponpot 1979. the killing is read. The question is who created pol pot is it Sihanouk?or the enemy we hate the most? And why are we lost so much live and destructive?

    • @kanarykim352

Who created P Pot? . It was Sihanouk that made this group formed in order to fight against him. There were so much corruptions and un fairness in societies that these K.R ware formed. Lon Nol just going up against the damp that is already broken. Sihanouk? at the time, he is in big China, with 4 chefs, house with a swimming pool, a tennis court & all the luxuries you can think of, while his million's people suffered under the cruelty of P.Pot's. So Cambodia lost the war to P.Pot because Sihanouk wants the power back & conspired with the K Rouge & broadcasted days & nights with Peking radio stations and the N. Vietnamese stations, creating chaos & have children argue with parents, create distrust between the Khmers themselves. That is when soldiers left Lon Nol's troops & join the K Rouge & won that damned war. May both P.Pot & Sihanouk's souls MAY NOT REST IN PEACE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! This is the very girl in this footage, i was there, flesh & blood & witness the whole charade.
