    The first vid and this update are still one of the cleanest and most effective examples of a budget build I've found. Bravo to you! Lots of simple, useful touches. Excellent. Having the 8ft bed is kinda the key it seems, but many of these ideas would be workable in a 6.5' bed too.

    One thing I noticed from the start is the tucked under fire extinguisher. If it were me I'd mount that up a little higher, same area is fine but above the bed in that rear corner. Nice job. Nice truck.

    Love this. Very comfy. Crack the window to the driver's area and a window in the cab if u are worried about gas at night. That way the cab gets cold and you stay warm. I also saw an alcohol heater that looks safe for the most part. It was on Bob Wells channel ( older van life hippy guy...I think that's his name) Great ideas: the slide lock for safety, plywood, the lamp, the carpet and the various sliding storage areas. Good job!

  • @LarryShinnEsq
    @LarryShinnEsq 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Great improvements. If you haven't already, I'd look for a 12V bulb for that lamp and replace the 120V plug with a cig lighter plug. Then you don't have to listen to the whine from the inverter. Trust me....it gets old after a while. That's why my tiny cabin is wired for 12V lights (RV lights) throughout and will have a 12V plug by the bed for the 12V TV and BluRay. Desk light is USB powered - I have USB ports built into the walls as well. I'll be installing a car stereo (with Android) into the wall also, so that I can stop using the 120V amplified speakers I have currently. Ultimately, I'll only need to turn the inverter on for charging the laptop or running the AC. With the AC on, I won't hear the inverter. lol
    You've utilized space very well. I like your setup much better than the ones that just raise the entire floor and cram everything underneath. Yours is more livable.

  • @kl0an

    An alternative solution for the plywood on the tailgate is to find some of those foam play mat squares people use in their kids rooms with letters, and animals and all other colors. I've seen then in 6"x6" (Which I have in the whole floor of my bed) and also 12"x12" which I had in my old stepvan.
    The foam will help deaden sounds and is way more comfortable that plywood or the standard bed flooring. They're about 1/2-3/4" thick and very dense foam.
    Then when you're studying for your Masters, you can use the letters and numbers to learn big words..

    Other than brighter more efficient LED lighting you could also purchase thin synthetic insulation to glue to the inside roof of the shell to help better hold in heat in the winter. It's thin enough to not really affect overall head room.
    You could also use Velcro to attach the same type of insulation to tailgate when you have it closed at night to help hold in heat. The Velcro would allow you to remove it whenever

    I'm currently in a position where I'm having to live full time in my truck and building a rack with rails to hold my solar panels and have been wondering how I was going to put my bed and other living comfort arranged and really liked yours. However, I'm going to insulate the inside of my camper shell despite it having a padding on the roof, walls, and floor. I was considering painting the side windows black from the inside and have enough light so that at night no light leaks and remain stealth. The outside rack is a must due to wanting water and storing other things. I'll be video taping the entire thing and a few other subjects with regards to how I became to live in the truck, things I've been through, my past, present, and the ultimate goal... move to Hawaii by October 2019 and buy a piece of land to live completely off the grid.

    Just watched your first video of it then came here, stained ply is looking good but you need to get rid of that lamp and put some LED's strips in there, takes up less room and far less power. Should mount the little carbon monoxide detector down near your solar setup, keep it lower than where you're sleeping. Nice setup though I like it!

    I think you should make your fire extinguisher a bit more accesible because opening the back in the event of a fire would make it worse as you're feeding it oxygen, so making your fire exinguisher accessible from the inside would be a life saver.
