As someone who’s had multiple miscarriages and done everything possible to make sure the pregnancy survives to hear someone “sell” a solution is just infuriating.
I'm so sorry you've gone through those struggles. The very first time I tried to get pregnant I had a "missed miscarriage" later diagnosed to be a molar pregnancy, which I had never heard of before. I was told it could be unhealthy eggs, or any number of things. But that really planted some fear in me, I wanted to do my best to improve my odds. Then of course all these "hun-bots" as they've been called, come slinging their MLM health bullshit trying to convince me I can save my next baby if I just do "Whatever Bullshit They're Peddling". It's sickening. And of course they go after vulnerable women fearful of the next try, they want you to waste your money. I wish they'd all go to jail.
"Don't release an egg if you don't want to get pregnant." 🤣🤣🤣That's my favorite! If someone had told me I could control that after my first menstruation, I might not have ever had another period. That would have made my life so much easier.
Right, don't they think we would control that shit if we could? So many women would just turn off that "feature" forever, or at least until if/when they decided they wanted to have kids.
Maybe we can control it ladies? We just were waiting for a man to explain it to us all these aeons? let's all just stop taking our scientifically proven birth control and give it a try eh? lol no but really I can see some of these policy makers be like I can control release of my sperm so you can control your egg. Clearly you are just being a difficult woman so you can keep the baby and be responsible for it.
"When you swallow a pill, it cannot end up in the vagina." "Fascinating." Yeah, remember, this is the 'august body' that spouted off about "legitimate rape" and "The female body can fight off unwanted sperm." May Todd Akin rest in pieces.
Wait he used words like legitimate rape? What the hell is that? And he believed that a woman's body could reject unwanted sperm seriously? That was a thing? Really?? I'm not misunderstanding what you just said am I?
Lady with bun, I ate dates, drank tea, worked out and walked every day, did yoga, took a class, saw a chiropractor, hired a doula... and I still ended up with an OP baby, 67 hours of labor, 4 hours of pushing, and an unplanned c-section with my first (and only) pregnancy. What I learned, there are some things you cannot control. Labor is one of these things.
BUT…because of all of that suffering, including the miserable hours exercising and eating and drinking gross stuff, giving up all the fun stuff (Like booze), etc, you were given a blessed and sacred gift!! I’m talking about the blessing of sooooooo many things to tell your kid about in the future when they’re acting a fool. “I did not suffer through nine miserable months and 67 hours of labor for you to be questioning the curfew I gave you” etc. lol
@@silviaomo15 lol I don’t have kids, but I totally encourage my friends to guilt trip theirs/use them for manual labor (Like raking leaves and emptying the dishwasher, I’m not a complete monster). I tried to get my SIL to make her son do one of those memed “teenager photo shoots” when my nephew was 14 bc he was acting like a lil shit and she could’ve used it as blackmail later. I stand by that recommendation. Once again, NOT A PARENT, everyone can rest easy tonight.
Yes 👏👏👏 There's another doctor I follow on Instagram who specializes in emergency medicine and she said this too. On contrast there's one I'm about to go unfollow because they started doing just that. Disguising a marketing post as medical information and a facade of caring for their follower's health. Guess who financially benefits from the product? Yup. I can't trust anything else coming from that person after seeing how shamelessly the product was being marketed and especially in the comment replies.
That's what most doctors do so not really great advice! Coming from experience from multiple doctors on my end and my husbands who just recommend the same things over and over and when they don't work, do so again because they forget what they recommended (yes this happens I work for a healthcare provider and their team does the same thing). Doctors gain financially as well, so while I can understand the sentiment, it's a bit bizarre seeing how doctors are not no profit.

When I was 15 years old, back in the very early 2000's, I wanted to do a copper IUD so I didn't have to deal with the horrible side effects that came from all the different types of hormonal birth control options I had already tried. My mother and I back then had a good open relationship about this subject and I asked her about her experience with the IUD since she had a copper one in the late 80's to early 90's. She told me that she experienced the toxic copper problem that was mentioned at the end of this video so I ended up not getting it and went for the hormonal method that has the least amount of side effects for me. Is it possible that the older original version of the copper IUD did have this issue but was fixed later on which is why the idea of copper poisoning from IUD still exists today?
I covered my mouth the exact same way when the senator asked if swallowing a pill could tell you the status of a pregnancy🤦♀️. They is an argument for sex Ed and biology classes if ever I’ve heard of one
This is an argument for these people in charge who have literally no clue about the biology of any of this shouldn’t be interfering in people’s medical decisions 😭
The only way I can deal with this is to assume that he had to pose the question that way because of some bureaucratical reason, for example how in court a question can't be posed "leading the witness" - and that the "that's fascinating" was more sarcastic than genuine.
Shouldn't have had to ask that. As the answer is obvious to anyone who knows about what a vagina is and where it leads. Same as you wouldn't have in something about idunno banning substances and then suddenly being asked about the toxicity of water.
I grew up in an all girls environment. It shocked me to find out that most guys aren’t familiar with the female anatomy. One guy thought periods were a myth, something that girls say to excuse their behaviour. Another thought we peed from the vagina. One even thought the uterus was in the chest. When they saw a pad on the ground (new one, someone dropped it), they didn’t know what it was. They thought it was a pack of tissue and was going to pick it up. When I told them it’s a pad they backed away like it’s contaminated with a plague. Guys are another breed
When I was in Junior High (7th and 8th grade), me and a group of girls were waiting for clubs to start after school and were at the school cafeteria waiting. We noticed a group of boys waiting for sports practice and thought it would funny (as 13 year olds would think) to drop a pad next to their table as we went to the bathroom. So we did. We took an UNOPENED STILL IN THE WRAPPER PAD and dropped it next to the table in a discreet way. We got to the bathroom and heard the screams of the young teen boys. We laughed of course, did our business and went back to our table. We were then approached by a duty aide (a woman btw) who told us we needed to apologize to the boys for being inappropriate. Yeah that pisses me off to this day.
They're in charge of everything, that's their role. That's why it's important to hold them accountable, and not just specifically about women's health, but about every thing they do, say and decide. Our whole lives are at stake.

@@StephALowry29 I honestly believe that if an individual has no medical knowledge, isn't a doctor of any kind, or had the advice or consultation of a medical professional, they have no business making laws and policies for the medical field. It should be illegal to do so until a doctor/medical professional reviews the proposed bill/law/whatever, and yays or nays it. I can't tell you how many people die or will die because of the utter stupidity of the government wanting to play doctor.
I had a severe reaction to hormonal birth controls and the copper IUD was the best thing that was ever offered to me! I had it in place for five years without a single issue from 19 to 24 before having it removed and getting my tubes tied. 35 now with no regrets❤ (yes, I know I was young when I had my tubes tied, but I was fully aware of what I was doing and knew that having children was not something I ever wanted in my future. Personal choice that was discussed with a physician and psychiatrist)
I was also 24 when I had my tubal ligation, followed one year later by removal of my uterus and cervix for medical reasons (kept my ovaries). I just turned 58; still no regrets. I got to live most of my reproductive life not having to worry about contraception, and not having to deal with a monthly cycle. Chef’s kiss perfection!
Fucking good for you. I'm 27 and only got an iud because my doctor rejected my request for sterilization when i was 23. I just got a referal to a new ob gyn to start the conversation again!
I'm jealous you were allowed to get your tubes tied so young, and happy for you. I am 36 and still can't find someone to let me get them tied as I don't have any kids.
Congratulations to you for taking proactive steps to avoid pregnancy when you were sure that wasn't what you wanted. This is a very responsible choice.
I cannot believe that watching a video debunking Tik Tok from an actual medical doctor is how I find out that I am not alone in my need to poop when I visit bookstores. I am never unsubscribing from this channel
This video was the first time I ever heard of this. I thought this was going to take a turn into being about drinking coffee at a café inside a bookstore.
As a medical lab scientist who is running these types of labs on the daily, THANK YOU for talking to your fellow doctors/residents/junior doctors about labs and when to order them!! We see waaay too much over testing and misuse of testing!!!
Me too! Except I'm in microbiology, so it's more 'the patient grew group B strep yesterday, yes they likely still have it today. Stop sending vaginal swabs daily, they're not even at 37 weeks yet'
People may also not be aware that if you use public insurance (Medicare or Medicaid) and order unnecessary tests, that you can be in trouble legally. My CME feed recently had an article about a practitioner who was convicted of ordering unnecessary tests on healthy individuals. I am very glad that my medical training did emphasize that you don't order a test unless you know all the things that Dr. Jones mentioned. It's expensive for the patient and can also be a problem in other ways for the patient. I still remember when I was doing my pediatric clerkship in medical school. We had a baby dying of renal failure due to a urologic malformation. The intern kept drawing blood from this poor newborn "to follow the electrolytes" even though they were not being used in his treatment. The intern was doing it "because it was interesting to see what was happening." He had not obtained permission from the parents for doing what essentially was an experiment, since it clearly didn't benefit the baby or the family. Even though I was a mere medical student, I still knew what he was doing was wrong (and did talk him out of it without having to report it to the attending.)
I have always eaten well, but I stepped it up before conception, exercised regularly, and took a prenatal for a year before conceiving my son. He had a spontaneous gene deletion and didn’t make it. I ate like crap leading up to my second pregnancy (It was a good day if I remembered to eat at all after losing my son), did no exercise until I got pregnant, and though I did keep taking prenatal, I did miss days here and there. My second child seems fine so far, and I definitely didn’t do things perfectly to “prep the egg that was selected 3 months prior”…Are there things that can lower pregnancy risks? Yes. But people can do everything right, and still have tragic outcomes. We need to stop with the mom shaming and early pregnancy fear mongering, and just support people with scientifically proven best practices in a less “if you don’t do this you’ll probably have a miscarriage” kind of way. 🤦♀️
Seriously! With my first baby, I was working retail before and during my pregnancy. I ate tons of candy and chips and starbucks and doughnuts because I was in the mall and had mall discounts and knew when stuff was on sale. Healthiest pregnancy and baby. Baby #3, I was working out, eating a balanced diet, staying active, not much snack foods or sugary drinks. Turns out I was diabetic regardless, placenta was effed, blood pressure was ridiculous, baby died at 24 weeks. If having a good lifestyle was a guarantee, he would be here.

On the topic of birth classes, my first pregnancy was in 2020. Due to everything being shut down it was difficult to find a birthing class. Your channel, along with a few others, were what prepared me for my labor. My labor nurses were very impressed with my knowledge and preparation, especially when I told them I didn't manage to take a class. Thank you Mama Doctor Jones for the information you provide!
I was never able to take a class before my first birth, mainly because I didn't have a car. I did, however, have access to my local library. Those books prepared me a lot more than TH-cam did. Most of those TH-cam videos were filled with misinformation. (This channel didn't exist then.)
I'm a dude that grew up in a nearly all woman household.(only me and my dad with four sisters and my mom. My dad was always gone working on the road.) It always confuses me when I hear other dudes talking about stuff like this and just getting it wildly wrong. Like I had to ask who taught my barracks roommate that women only get pregnant if they don't orgasm. He thought that if they did, it pushed everything out and the woman wouldn't get pregnant.
Sounds like an excuse to cover up the fact that he could never get a woman to finish 👀 👀 thank you for properly educating him. When I think I’ve heard it all, the comment section in these kinds of videos really reminds me I absolutely haven’t lol
that’s hilarious bc it’s actually sort of the opposite. i have no idea whether it actually impacts getting pregnant or not, but when a woman orgasms, the vaginal spasms/contractions happen in such a way that if there was anything in the vagina it would be pushed upwards and towards the cervix.
When I was explaining how women get pregnant and where babies come from to my 6 year old I left feeling good about the conversation. Fast forward a week or so and I’m at Costco with my son and as I’m putting eggs in the cart my son asks why I buy eggs when I can lay my own lol 😂 oh the looks I was getting 🤣😂
On the flip side the number of times I’ve had to explain to people that eggs-for-eating *generally* aren’t fertilized, and that yes, yes my female parrot does drop eggs on occasion NO I am NOT breeding her she just *does that* Like. I legit have to say “it’s a bird’s period” before people…get it. (And then get grossed out by eggs.) Your son is ahead of the class hahaha
I'm a guy, but I watch these videos because they're actually genuinely interesting. And, in the future, if I have a girlfriend or a daughter, I'd like to be at least somewhat educated in these matters. I love what you do MDJ! Love from Ireland 🇮🇪
The “egg quality” lady also felt….. weirdly related to eugenics. Of course, you want the best chance of well-being and health for yourself and your pregnancy, but it still skeeved me out.
See if you're worried about not being able to get pregnant or any medical issue you go see your doctor not take tictok advice... It amazes me how many people fall for that stuff if you have a question ask your doctor if your doctor thinks you need to make any changes they will tell you if they think if they you should stop a medication or switch a medication out for something else because it could affect a pregnancy they'll know if they think that you need to do something before you get pregnant like stop smoking etc they will tell you if you want them to run a couple tests to make sure that everything's okay before you get pregnant they will they are there for that specific reason and if you don't consult your doctor your doctor's not going to know. People play off of touchy subjects to profit... It's just sad the things that people will play off of to make money. The egg quality lady is just a Ponzi scheme.
LOVED the section on labs! As a Phlebotomist myself, these are all of the talking points I routinely share. In particular when people are convinced that they need frequent blood work to monitor health or to watch for changes in values. It's a shame that these folks have made people so anxious around their own health they don't trust themselves to notice changes in their body AND believe that a shift in values within the normal range could be cause for concern.
To add to this, people taking advice on labs to run from a person bouncing to up-tempo music in a 10-second video instead of, oh, I don’t know, TALKING TO THEIR DOCTOR is still mind-blowing to me.
I recently got the copper IUD, and it was debilitating at first, the cramping that it caused took me out for a while and made it nearly impossible to function. I personally (a senior in high school with limited knowledge of anatomy and medical science) chalk it up to my vagina being unfamiliar with the new presence and wanting to reject it, causing an inflammatory and defensive response. Thankfully it got better and has been pretty chill since, but I understand all the conflicting information surrounding it. I wish there was more information made public. Perhaps statements from actual patients with varying true responses present at the clinic so you have all the information. Not a tik tok making false claims, but something provable and real. This is a hot topic for me, as it caused me intense pain and upheaval for almost a month, and was largely shaken off by others around me as "just period cramps"
Every time I Am amazed by the stupidity among American politicians when it comes to female anatomy and physiology, I remind myself of Todd akin who claimed that in case of a “legitimate” rape , abortion is not needed, since the “body has a way to shut the whole thing down”!! Seriously there should be some kind of general knowledge test for politicians
I think the politicians who want to make laws regarding healthcare should be required to pass a test written by doctors in that field of study, have medical students on their intern staff, AND only be allowed to dictate law in up to 2 areas of medicine. If they elect general/family medicine law they get to be tested on their knowledge of everything from peds to geriatric care AND a separate reproductive care exam you ensure they understand the basics AND have been educated regarding LGBTQ+ healthcare. Then they also need to study for and pass the insurance producer for a health license licensing exam for their home State so they actually understand how health insurance works. I'd add in life insurance too, but there's already too many trying to scam people in that market and politicians know all about it, but haven't made those policies illegal.
The stress and worry over giving birth to one's rapist's baby can, and does, result in miscarriage, but it's by no means a universal phenomenon. For that politician to say such stupidity as fact should've had him barred from ever again holding office.
I understand that we want to be politic, but I think it's time to call a spade a spade. It's not being silly, it's being stupid - or a scam in the case of the woman trying to sell her plan to prepare your body for pregnancy. The level of shaming there with a sales pitch? That woman should be prosecuted!

Speaking of ludicrous questions related to child birth... I mentioned to a coworker that I discovered after my c-section that they "take out the intestines" during the procedure. It must have been how I phrased it that made her gasp and say "so you don't have intestines?!".
The irony of this is that my mother has Crohn's and has been under the knife so many times she literally has about 3 feet (about 1 meter) of intestines remaining. Too bad that didn't happen until after all her kids had long been born, eh? Lol
My first birth was 29 hours. And my second was 5 hours. I know in general second births are typically easy but the second time I was working out consistently jogging on the treadmill and weight lifting (I started working out regularly after my first baby) and I also did prenatal yoga every Saturday and sometimes on my own throughout the week. I think all of this helped my body to be strong and capable as the yoga was specifically designed for pregnancy not just a yoga class that’s modified to be safe for pregnancy. My hips were very loose and relaxed. Highly recommend staying active and doing prenatal yoga.
I had bed rest for 6 weeks while pregnant and only had a 2 hour delivery, without any pain killers… not sure you’re proving ‘evidence’ of anything. Yes stay active as it’s clearly better for you, but doing epic workouts are not healthy for everyone and just because you’re fit, that doesn’t mean that you’ll have an easier delivery.
I was very active my first pregnancy, because I had to work practically until labor started. With the second pregnancy, I was so crippled with pain, nausea, and migraines that I was very inactive for the latter half. My first L&D was 24 hours, with 30 minutes of pushing. My second was 12 hours, with 4 minutes of pushing. I think exercise is very helpful for getting you back to your full fighting form postpartum, but I don't think it has any (or little) effect on your L&D. Every pregnancy is different.
The "just don't release an egg" thing came from one of the anti abortion officials when Roe vs ade was overturned. Yes, he actually said that - that women can control the release of their eggs
If we could control our eggs like that we simply wouldn’t ovulate or have periods 🤣🤣🤣 …then again many of these assholes believe that we get aroused by tampons and pee out out period blood and can “control it”
Not release an egg? I wish those of us with ovaries could just halt our menses by sheer will alone! That would save us a fortune on birth control and feminine hygiene products! Not to mention be helpful to stop the period related disorders and give us back that week every month to be normal!
When I started on my 12th birthday (happy birthday to me), I told my family that I was never going to go through that again! It was gross, it hurt, and was not in my list of things to deal with at all PCOS laughed at my vow, and I had maybe 5 periods until my ablation at 39. Life is funny sometimes.

Also me: This woman really has a whole ass medical degree and has to use it to debunk/ try to save people from unalive-ing themselves and others in order to sell products on TikTok...? Thank you for your service.
One thing to note about chiropractors: in some countries - including my own, Denmark - you actually have to get a Master's degree in Clinical Biomechanics in order to become a chiropractor (meaning five years of university), and they attend a lot of classes alongside "regular" med students, so while I have heard a lot of people describe the chiropractor education in the U.S. as subpar, there are some places in the world I would maybe consider it at least safer to go to a chiropractor while pregnant. Always consult your GP and OBGYN beforehand though.
Really wish politicians had to pass sex ed classes before speaking on abortion. I really think it would cuange the climate around abortion. At the very least they couldn't claim they didn't know better.
That would be great but the real problem is that they don't want to know and they DON'T CARE. They just want people to live by their beliefs and no other way is acceptable to them.
The "prepare your eggs" lady is definitely helping you to have better eggs by relieving the weight you carry in your wallet. She does sell an egg preparation and selection system, presumably better than your mother's health care suggestions, she thinks.
@@MamaDoctorJones It is quite outstanding how this woman sells her program (that is the word that she uses) without even giving a hint of what it is or what it does or how much it costs, but implying that you must (presumably can) select or prepare the eggs at the precise time. While it’s nice to point and laugh at the second one, that person has the power to regulate the bodies of others. This is how we get states threatening to make “suspicious” miscarriages a felony, saying a baby has a “heartbeat” at 6 weeks, and that a woman’s (or AFAB to be more specific but using the politician’s wording) body will not conceive a child if she is “legitimately”raped.
Thanks for the AFAB shout out! I'm a trans man that has given birth twice, and we get left out of the conversation most of the time. I usually don't mind too much because women are the vast majority, but medicine and law should be trying to use inclusive language.
OH boy, the idea that a woman (AFAB person more specifically) could only get pregnant if she (or *insert other pronouns*) wanted a baby was a popular belief back in the medieval era, I never thought that there would still be people in the modern era that still believe this now that humanity has a better understanding of reproductive anatomy and processes but I'm honestly not surprised considering the state of education here.
@@peggedyourdad9560 in the middle ages people actually thought that for conceiving it is necessary that a woman has an orgasm. Imagine the marriage life of a woman who's husband doesn't want any more children but thinks he's entitled to have sex with his wife anytime he wants. Plus they didn't know anything about how to make it enjoyable for the women anyways as touching certain body parts was considered sinful (regardless who did it, so the "do it for yourself" wasn't an option). In those times men had absolute power over the body of women, and sadly I see in many countries we're heading that direction again 🫤
When I was 21 I told my doctor my cycle was off and something was wrong with my body (I was having hot flashes in the dead of winter wearing shorts and a tank top outside). She said I was exercising too much and that’s why my cycle was skipping around or being nonexistent. By the time she ordered the proper test and diagnosed me with perimenopause, my FSH and LH levels were that of a woman in her 60s. Ordering every test known to man, for your yearly check ups is ridiculous. Yet if I would of advocated for myself better or known to ask for certain tests, I wouldn’t of been told at 26 that there was little to no chance that I would ever be able to conceive my own children. So the idea that doctors won’t order a test because they are unsure of how they will interpret the results and they are unsure of the why, or where they will take those results is a bit disheartening. The ball was dropped with my overall care and I am well aware that it was most likely done with zero malice, yet the results are still the same and we still land wrong side up.
In your case, labs should have been ordered when you were 21 and still having issues with your cycle. A woman’s cycle should stabilize by the time they hit 20. Any issues with your cycle at that age are a good reason to draw reproductive hormone labs. On the other hand, my psychiatrist orders labs to check anemia and thyroid once a year to ensure there isn’t a physiological reason for my psychiatric symptoms. It is a balance.
But you had a legitimate complaint that is typically caused by a known disease/disorder/syndrome/etc for which we have a test to determine where your symptoms are coming from for sure. That's the doctor's fault for not really listening to your concerns.
Just want to say that your editor is amazing! I loved all the little add-ons and sound effects in this video. And the whole thing was well put together 😊
I just went and watched the Alaska videos. Let me just say that I didn’t trust the school to teach my son about sex ex or about things that happen to female bodies that are natural and normal. When you post a great video that is something that he definitely needs to know about, I send it to him and he watches it alone to avoid embarrassment and then we discuss. I tried the watching it together thing and his embarrassment caused him to miss important points. So, to sum it up…you’re a great doctor who gives factual information that teens need to know.
Parents should absolutely ask to see the teacher's curriculum before the Sex Ed unit, regardless of state laws or guidelines. An individual teacher may have better or worse curriculum and/or attitudes than their peers. I was always surprised that, out of 380-400 students, only 10-15 parents called me each year and only 1-2 ever came in to see the curriculum. In 15 years of classroom instruction, I had three parents opt their child out of instruction-with one only when Planned Parenthood came to talk about contraception.
@@macherie1234 I've never been concerned with the sex ed curriculum because my goal is to teach my children everything before they get to class so whatever the curriculum is ends up as review. I also talked to my daughter after her health classes (which is where sex ed was taught). We went over the conversation. As expected, nothing was interesting about the curriculum. Most of the conversation was my daughter lamenting how immature classmates were about the subject.
@@macherie1234 I do too. Especially as I live in a state where the education focuses on abstinence-only. Yes, I want my teen to be abstinent. I wasn't and it was a series of poor life decisions for me that eroded my self-esteem and happiness alone with myself. But I'll be damned if I'm going to leave her without accurate information about her options should she make a different choice than her current plan.
I went to a Christian school. sex ed was abstinence until marriage and that's it. we were never told anything more. i moved over to public school my junior year so i didn't have to take it and didn't nor did i take a proper anatomy or biology class. sadly I know more about it than a lot of people who went to public school and took sex ed and either anatomy, biology, or both. even more sad is that these people aren't just trolling, they fully believe what they say with every fiber of their being and will argue about it. it was once said, people are stupid because of lack of access to information... what is their excuse now?
When you think you already know that answer then why would you look for an answer? I think that explains a lot of it. Then, some people just will not ever take on new information and they keep passing on the false information.
Former Christian school kid too I would get banned for saying what they told me women are "made for" Other than that it was literally just a generic A&P class, girls got all the scare tactics
Considering the number of people I’ve met who think women pee out of their vaginas I fully believe there are plenty of people who think women choose to drop eggs. When I was in high school they separated us in health class to learn about sex ed; so any guys who went to my school around that time would have had to seek out knowledge about women’s reproductive health themselves. Plus they’re not likely to just run into this knowledge in conversation because so many people still consider these topics taboo.
Men's urethra goes through the pen1s which is where sem3n is released. If boys are not taught anything about female anatomy it may be how they think that women use the same for urine and babies.
We were separated at our Catholic HS too because it fell under health class and that was part of gym class. We all learned the same stuff about both sexes.
@@m_d1905 Mine was a public school. Health class was its own course and they didn’t separate us by gender for anything else. I remember it being very focused on female reproduction for us and I remember the guys telling us theirs was focused on males.
I have a lady friend whose doctor (GP) was supposed to be checking out her urethra & he was fiddling with her CLITORIS!!! A DOCTOR!!! My first time with a woman, I went straight to the clitoris when it was time -- no mistakes, because I used to read men's magazines that were more open(no pun intended) in their photographic representations of the vagina(they didn't call it that, for some reason) Yup, some people are boneheaded, INDEED! Thank you, MDJ, for publicising facts & truth on TH-cam, to offset all the misinformation out there
@@NatandGeorge There is a huge problem with lack of information and misinformation about female anatomy but I'm sure there's a different explanation for what happened with your friend's doctor. He went to med school. There's no way he could think that a raised bump at the top of the labia (the clitoris) was actually the flat urethral opening tucked between the labia. Maybe her doctor needed to push her clitoris out of the way to see the urethra or maybe he was "fiddling" with it because he noticed that something looked abnormal at first glance and he was inspecting it. One time when I was getting my toe examined my doctor stopped to inspect a rash on my leg. There's also another much worse explanation but I don't want to list that as a possibility when I have no reason to suspect it.
My daughter had Malcolm almost a month ago...she did yoga, learned and visualized what her body was going to do, took the birth classes with her husband. Her labor lasted about 18hours with just over an hour of pushing. I was there for the whole experience...stilthink She's is an absolute earth godess, and the staff of the Birthing Cottages were the right level of informative and supportive at every part. Remember labor is work, but the reward is wonderful. Positive vibes from New Hampshire, remember to be kind to each other and yourself during these trying times.
I actually sympathize with the post about the copper IUD being awful and thinking it might have an impact on my hormones/health. I had it placed in my late 20’s but then experienced my quality of life significantly deteriorate over the 8mo I had it in. I developed increasingly severe pain during sex (had not been an issue before and not due to an infection), subsequently low libido, mood swings, and troubling symptoms of depression. My first obgyn basically dismissed the idea that the copper IUD could be the cause and even scanned to make sure it was placed correctly but ultimately I decided to try having it removed to see if my symptoms would resolve. I went to a new doc to have it removed and mentioned my symptoms to her as well but I got the same dismissive/disinterested response “huh, I’ve never heard that could happen”. Long story short, within a week of having it removed (no other change in my life) I began to feel so much better both physically and mentally. Overall it took a few months to get back to 100%. Although I love your channel, and agree we should look at evidence-based recommendations, I have an issue with saying ‘there is no incidence/reporting’. I had personally talked to two different doctors and was met with disbelief and apathy both times. I’m sure neither felt the need to report anything.
I had a Copper IUD from 18-21 and I experienced severe pain during sex the entire time to the point of visiting my doctor multiple times to figure out what was happening(At the time I never even considered it could be in part the iud). I did feel brushed off and embarrassed I kept bringing it up which is crazy now that I think about it. Anyways I got it removed and since I’ve not had any pain during sex. I’m sorry for your experience, it’s unfortunate how women can sometimes be made to feel guilty, disruptive, or delusional for seeking help about typically feminine health concerns… I personally know many women who have had similar issues with the copper iud themselves and a part of me thinks it’s not as well reported because of a larger societal trend to write women off in these situations
Hi there! I have a copper IUD actually and thankfully I’ve been doing very well. Sorry to hear about your experience. I think every woman should totally listen to their body and if your body is reacting negatively to a certain birth control method, they should be able to do something about it. Like what you did, go you! That being said, doc Jones said there aren’t any reports of copper toxicity. What you’re talking about are adverse effects that can occur.
I was the same. I had severe brain fog and even worse periods on the copper IUD. I was brushed off by so many doctors. I thought I was crazy and or lazy because my energy levels dipped so low. I failed a semester at college and started losing my hair. I know how dangerous self diagnosis is but I had no choice. I couldn't even get private testing for copper toxicity
This is what I came to the comments looking for. I have read about copper toxicity and lots of issues with the copper iud. One specific article I remember about is this woman who started experiencing anxiety depression and started hearing voices. She didn’t know what was wrong. She later read online an article by a physician about the dangers of the copper iud/toxicity and got it removed and has now went back to normal. But her gyno did not believe her. The science on these birth controls unfortunately these doctors arent taught and there is not enough peer reviewed studies on it, no one is putting an effort towards it. Bc has now become a business. And doctors are trained to shove medications down our throat. “So you have anxiety and you think it’s your bc? no it’s not, why don’t you try Prozac to help with that. You’re just making it up. It’s in your head.” Makes me so mad. I had 2 friends that had significant issues with bleeding pain and mental health issues while on the copper. I’m glad you got it out and are doing better.
It might have been inserted in a way that was causing you harm. Your vagus nerve is nearby. I couldn't have one because I have a tilted uterus and the doctor could not get it in. If he managed, I would have had severe pain anyway from the weird angle it would have sat. If it's causing pain or weirdness have it taken out. It's probably not the copper but having a pokey hard thing not necessarily where it was supposed to be originally
I’m glad you mentioned Wilson’s Disease. I had never heard of it before I watched Untold Stories of the ER. Season 13 episode 1 deals with a case where a male teenager believes he is turning into a vampire because of light sensitivity, bleeding from the gums, and a goth girlfriend. He was diagnosed through presentation of Kayser-Fleischer Rings in his eyes.
I love the way you explain things in GREAT detail but put simply enough for people to understand. You are the kind of doctor I look for. My regular doctor moved from 20 minutes away to around 40-60 minutes away and I'm procrastinating but I've waited to see where she would end up to follow her to her new office if they still take my insurance because I just LOVE her. I wish I would have had an OB like you with my first! Keep being a great doctor and hilariously entertaining yet educating youtuber ❤️
That book glue effect is hilarious. I always have to go to the bathroom as soon as I get to a book store or library. I always thought I was just super excited for books! Lol.
I was thinking the same thing. Its not copper toxicity, she had the copper IUD and was exposed to more copper and developed an allergy - if I'm remembering correctly 🤔 while people can develop allergies in adulthood and metal allergies do exist, TV is not real life
As a lab scientist, if I saw that list of tests to run for a single patient I would probably burst out laughing. It's so massive and scattered! That's like looking at an entire 5000 piece puzzle but all of the pieces are scattered all over the floor. "Um...well, I know there's a tree in there somewhere."
I LOVED your philosophy on laboratory testing. I am a laboratory scientist and deal with improper and unnecessary laboratory orders every single day. I can't tell you how many phone calls we receive in the lab from clinicians who don't understand what to do with a particular result, and I so badly want to ask them why they ordered a test not knowing what to do with the result! Thank you for discussing this with your interns and residents - it's really important that they hear this and really understand how to use the laboratory effectively to care for their patients!
We had this dr that kept trying to order outpatient ammonias. Like a chem7 and an ammonia or a BMP and an ammonia. Lab director had to sit him down and explain that if he thinks someone’s organs are shutting down, he needs to admit them first. Because that’s the only reason to run an ammonia. I would not be surprised if I found out this wacko was out here 20 years later telling people to drink alkaline water.
CLS here too and I had to credit 2 rhogam evals the other day bc they were ordered for rh pos patients. I’ve had residents try to argue with me demanding rhogam for their rh pos patients. Lol
Thank you so much for taking the time to explain what the diagnostic tests are for and when you might need them. I found that information both very helpful and terrifically interesting!
Can confirm about the chiropractor! I went in while pregnant because my ribs were killing me and when I told him I was fascinated that your rib cage expands 6-8 cm in pregnancy he was fascinated as well... Because he didn't know... Yikes
@@y_fam_goeglyd he's actually like a magician when it comes to getting you back in alignment. He doesn't use the "cracking" technique he is more like a DO that way. He's actually very well educated. But it just shows how many docs don't know anything about pregnancy. I went to a primary care office once who didn't have a Doppler in their office. Like come on guys 50% of the population has the ability to get pregnant how about you guys learn how to treat them!
I actually had to go to a chiropractor a lot while pregnant (pre-existing hip and neck injury) and he helped me keep my hips as loose as possible for birth. Of course I wasn't expecting a baby with a 13 cm head so all the chiropractic's and yoga in the world couldn't have prepared me for that. Regardless, it was very helpful in keeping me feeling relatively alright up until the little stinker debuted. It's definitely not for everyone, but it does have value for those that need it. I also didn't realize ribs can expand in pregnancy! And I was pregnant!
I just associate chiropractors with baloney pseudo science now, recommending chiropractic care feels like a big red flag to me. I feel bad for the legit ones.
Omg i didn't even think about that. So not only do so many men think we pee out of our vaginas, but if they think you can diagnose a pregnancy via the digestive tract, it stands to reason we poop out of there too. I can't with this nonsense.
Video idea: could you talk about hormonal changes and symptoms that occur with perimenopause? It’s something that people don’t know or talk about much, and many doctors are not very knowledgeable or sympathetic. Thanks!
BIRTH CLASS: When I was 8 years old my mother told me about her pregnancy and birth with me. She was very, maybe too, informative with the details. She said she was educating me for when I had a child/children. Plus a video I saw at school when I was 13 years old of a woman giving birth 'naturally'. Freaked me out so much I left the class room. When my teacher called me back into the class and as I was walking to my desk she said to me "I have no idea why you left because ONE day that WILL happen to you". I turned to her and said "No it f**king won't" and I was given detention for swearing at a teacher. My mother's talk and the video put me off getting and being pregnant and I have never had children. Some times it is best to live in ignorance with some things.
Also you know some things should be age appropriate and not used to scare kids. Like I could have done without the live birth video in high school at 15 but uni I was cool with watching all the human anatomy things and by med school assisting caesareans literally my favourite thing. Still had 2 of my own despite seeing some pretty scary outcomes.
We saw live-birth videos in our health class too. Definitely yikes. However, I definitely do not agree with living in ignorance especially in the matter of having children or being childfree. People are going into that whole process woefully unprepared because they've only been told the sunshine and rainbows bit of childbirth and childrearing and it causes a good deal of regret later on down the line. What if you had never learned any of it until after you've gotten pregnant? Now, if you choose to want to raise a child without doing that to your body you can look into adoption or fostering or if you just want to be a pet or plant mom that's absolutely ok too.
I love your response to the teacher. You might have even given the other kids that heard you the idea that you could have a choice in the matter. Some kids are raised not to even question that "fate".
My 3-year-old son knows more about menstruation, ovulation, gestation, and birth than a lot of these videos. Just yesterday I said the word "wound" and he said, "Mommy, you have a womb!" I had to explain the difference in the two words, but he knew right away what a womb is and even pointed to my lower abdomen.
When my son was a toddler, I read him a toddler anatomy book. He has known what a uterus was since he was 2 or 3. He has also always known the correct terms for his private parts.
For the blood test tiktok: that is so many vials. I had a blood draw that took 24 vials and still didnt include everything the person listed. However, if there is a reason to have that many, I would suggest it once (not every year).
Yes! I recently had a hefty bout of blood tests for an autoimmune diagnostic. "Only" twelve vials for that draw. Before the insurance adjustment it cost $9,000. Along with all the other reasons, can't imagine the cost of doing what that tiktok suggested.
I had to get 7 vials done for something while I was pregnant and that was a nightmare (It's hard to get a good vein on me and I dont bleed very well.) I cant imagine doing as many as all those tests would take all at once.
One of those had 5 good tips, 1 plausible but unconvincing and has a small risk so not worth doing, and 1 that is crap pseudoscience but generally not harmful. That's much better than I expected.
I'd personally advice people to get tested/more informed on GBS as well, especially if you're home birthing or when it's the first child. It's a bacterial infection which can be easily treated when in hospital, but so many children have died because of insufficient information. My oldest brother was on the verge of death and is now majorly disabled because his infection wasn't recognized. Granted, it was a homebirth, but that's really normal in the Netherlands (decent socialized healthcare at home and quicker access to hospital if needed) and healthcare givers dismissed the worries of my mom because it was her first baby. My mom has always said everyone who is birthing should get tested for it; it's so easy to treat, but you have to know!
@@tinkeramma it's not a common test in the UK though. I found out I had GBS infection by pure accident after going to a gynaecologist appointment after having some health problems. Thankfully though, I tested negative when I was pregnant a year or so later
The risk versus benefit of being tested for this depends on where you live and the incidence of it. Countries like the US backed themselves into a corner by testing ever woman in pregnancy and then giving her IV antibiotics in labour. Why!? Because GBS became resistant to all the antibiotics given prophylactically, which meant the antibiotics didn't work as well for the babies that got GBS.
Also, 1/4 of women have GBS at any time, yet approx only 1/200 babies born vaginallywill get GBS, bit only a small percentage (10% or so from memory) of that small percentage of babies will get sick from GBS. And about the same again - 10% of the 10% of the 1/200, born vaginally to 1/4 women with GBS) will be severely ill from it. SO, you can see givingb1/4 women antibiotics, poses far more risk if antibiotic resistance. In many countries, they use a risk factor screening process - and only give antibiotics to those 2omen (Eg prem, prolonged rupture of membranes, etc)
MLT here. The list of labs at 9:30 nearly gave me a stroke. So much of it was unnecessary unless the patient has very specific conditions and insurance will not pay for it (in the US) so the patient ends up with $1000+ bill. Guess who they call and yell at when that happens? 😓
Gosh, I remember when people's advice to "speed up" labor was to drink a glass of castor oil. Doctors back then STILL had fits over that ridiculous malarkey.
Goodness! The girl trying to sell her "3 month egg prep" ended every sentence as if asking a question. I feel like her speech pattern was the first indication that it's a scam.
This is a pretty common speech variation used by a lot of people. Sadly, it draws a lot of stigma, especially when the speaker is a young woman. However, just speaking with this intonation is not an indication of intelligence or being a scammer. That TikTok was awful and obviously scammy but I'd ask politely that you not assume that the woman's uptalk is related to her scamminess! (Source: I'm a linguist)
@@telpewen Thank you! Uptalk is very common in women of all levels of intelligence, and is often used as an excuse to not treat women with respect. There are legitimate indicators of that TikTok being scammy, but this isn't one of them.
Or canadian. In some parts in canada it's a common 'accent'. As long as you're still talking, you end in a rise, then when it's time for the other person to talk, you in in a fall.
The bookstore thing! Oh my gosh! I thought it was just me 😅 Also, thank you for mentioning the labs and rationale behind them. Our attendings are always saying not to go looking for problems when there is no evidence to support it.
Yes! I kind of wonder if it's just because people that love books relax at the smell and maybe a change has something in her hormones that allows us to relax enough to poop!
I had a horrid reaction to all kinds of hormonal birth control. I went with a copper IUD and I love it so much! It’s not for everyone but it was a mega blessing for me. Please don’t let the horror stories scare you
ohh my gosh i just found you recently but i'm already in love with your channel and how you advocate for education, informed consent, not to mention your use of inclusive language in a field that's generally considered to be ""only relevant to women"". thank you so much for debunking the misinformation that's out there. on a slightly different note--i'm not sure if you get suggestions on what to react to from your youtube comments or if you get them from somewhere else, but i do think that it'd be interesting to hear your perspective on an episode from the show "tuca and bertie"--specifically episode 2 of season 3, called "the pain garden"--it's an adult animated show made by one of the people who worked on bojack horseman if you've ever watched that or at least know of it. the show "tuca and bertie" is excellent by itself too, so if nothing else then at least i hope my comment gave you a new show to watch in your spare time.
Hey Mama Dr. Jones, I’m an MDPhD student working on the PhD right now, but I wanted to say thanks for the reminder to only order labs when needed. It’s one of the first things I was taught in med school, but it’s so easy to forget, esp when we see so many lab values in uworld and other practice questions! Thanks for making great content. You’re helping me feel connected to medicine, and I really miss it!
I did go to a chiropractor when pregnant because my left SI joint was displaced and I was in agony! That said, I specifically went to a pregnancy chiropractor offered by my delivering hospital. She popped it back into place, gave me a hip stabilizer band, and the pain relief was blissful!
same..my boys were in my hips..daughter stuck her feet in my ribs. I was taking a taxi during my first pregnancy and we hit a bump..I thought I was going to die..got home and asked my friend the name of her chiropractor. . wanna laugh? hips kept shooting pain for years, enough to make me collapse...until I quit putting my ankles behind my ears!! LOL! My new chiropractor called me flexible and It Was Not A Compliment..just means I pop out easily 😜 XooX
@@veronikavysoudilova9697 Just another vote from a hypermobile person…I have subluxed SI joints all the time and a Webster-certified chiro was actually the one who identified my EDS and helped me cope with the rest of my pregnancy
I got to a point where I felt like my chiropractic care while I was pregnant was just making things worst, so I stopped going and it seemed to relieve a lot of the pain I was in 🤷♀️
Everything is loosening up during pregnancy from the relaxin hormone. I could see how chiropractic care could do more harm than good during pregnancy because of that.
Oh, HUGE THANK YOU for teaching about labs like this!!! I work in clinical chemistry, and it drives me crazy, when a doctor asks me "I get the result, what does it mean", while I've never seen the patient and only now sex, age and lab data 🤯
Hi MDJ enjoyed this video, thank you. I was watching a really powerful story on the channel "the Patient Story" today about self advocacy and wondered if you'd be able to create a video in that space for pregnancy or medical as a whole. I'm a nurse and have a bit more of an understanding for what you can and can't ask for/how to be treated but I think for most people it can still be a really scary/intimidating space to stand up to your doctor and tell them you need to be heard. I think that you might address it really well. Cheers,
I remember I went to a clinic to an obgyn to basically check why my periods were irregular, and they gave me a list of labs i had to do which basically consisted of the majority of the things that were listed on that tiktok and i guess i see that some of those were useful (cause eventually i was diagnosed with pcos based on this data (testosterone levels specifically) and ultrasound) but some of it was totally unnecessary imo...
Just a testament to your content: My partner and I have made the decision to remain childfree because neither of us deals well with stress and I'm in treatment for multiple psychiatric conditions, at least one of which has some evidence of being hereditary, but I still love to watch your content for the entertainment factor and information.
Childfree solidarity, whoo! And I'm premed, but I definitely DON'T want to go into OBGYN. I love public health so that's part of my interest but MDJ just makes content so informative & worthwhile that I can't help but love every video even though the topics are generally only adjacent to my special interests & rarely intersect with them 😆
I'm 25 and made the decision to be child free when I was still very much a child myself. Never had an inkling of "maybe one day"; no version of "happiness" for me ever included motherhood. And while it is a dream for many people to have children one day, I desperately wish society would jump off the "You might change your mind" "you're still young" "What if you meet the right person?" bandwagon.
Same here, my partner and I both have hereditary adhd. I have several more genetic mental health conditions and my partner had a hereditary cancer. We’re both young but we’ve decided that as long as we’re together we’re not having genetically related children. We will probably adopt when we’re more settled.
Me too. 36 years old now so my ship is starting to sail into the sunset. I also have a long family history of depression and have no interest in passing that on. Also no kids so I have manageable bills, big holidays and lots of peace and quiet. Never been happier.
As a nurse of 37 years, taking about labs - if you don’t plan on treating the condition (such as at end of life), don’t check the labs for it. Fortunately for you, I’d say, end of life isn’t what you see all the time.
Taking a birth class was honestly the WORST thing for my anxiety, I regretted it sooo much! And wouldn't ya know it...the class I went to (which was highly recommended by tons and tons of people in the local Mom's group on fb 🤦♀️ I didn't know anything about Mom's groups yet lol) was run by this woman who was also a Doula who was I guess we'll say crunchy?/hippie/anti-science. It was like a 4 week long propaganda series on why all OBs are like part of big pharma and don't want the best for you, how horrible all medications are for you, how basically any medical intervention will cause nothing but problems for you and your baby and you'll need a c-section etc etc Oh and by the way having a Doula attend your birth is basically the ONLY way you can have a safe hospital birth, you NEED one there to advocate for you and keep you and your baby safe, here's my card and my website 🙄🙄🙄 As a non pregnant woman I am very rational, logical and strongly trust science over any of that stuff, but pregnant I was a trainwreck. I wasn't thinking clearly at all, was so sick all the time and my depression and anxiety were at peak levels so all critical thinking went right out the window and I was hysterical when the dr and nurses rushed in quickly to tell me my daughter's heart rate was dropping and I needed a c-section immediately, I was just positive we would both not make it... She's 6, and we're both good 😂 My 2nd pregnancy and labour went much smoother, despite having a toddler, hypermesis gravardium (I can't spell that word lol) and a ridiculously long labour...I was so much calmer and more level headed. Birth is by far one of those things that you shouldn't risk trusting some random person with zero education trying to teach you something. Science > BS
That actually sounds absolutely horrible and I guess comes back to the point on looking at peoples agendas. In that instance she was drumming up business. We recently attended a birth-class (2 day sessions) run by a midwife and it was quite good. I did go into it having done a lot of research before hand. Im also a nurse so there was no way i wasn’t going to do that. Got my husband to read up as well (reputable sources). Prior to being pregnant and in early pregnancy, the biggest hurdle in my mind was the labour. But having empowered myself with knowledge I’m more concerned about how we keep a newborn alive lol and configurations of change table and bassinet in our room.
AMA and Medical school is not the only education out there though. Many people mistake dogma for science. That is the problem is that people with power misuse the word science and call theories that benefit them science and everything else that isn't in their scope of profit non-science. Science is about being open to many ideas, not just one dogmatic way. People in modern times have turned their science into a religion. Science in today's world is no longer science with the misuse of the word.
@@novellahickmannh thank you for your perspective! Both of you really ! I’m currently 25+5 and started thinking about birthing classes. Being diagnosed with anxiety and depression, it made me worried if the classes would make the situation worse. The ads pop up alll the time in the BabyCenter app. I love the app in general but I’m not too keen on clicking ads for services. Looks like ima have to do a lot more research before deciding if I want to take classes or just go with the process and enjoy it as much as possible

@@Sienisota A lot of food chemicals and harmful pharmaceutical studies are designed to be the length cut short before the side effects to take place. So for example it might take 6 months of drinking high fructose corn syrup to show signs of diabetes and non alcoholic fatty liver. Coca cola and Pepsi will make their studies 5 months and "prove" that high fructose corn syrup doesn't harmfully affect health again and again. Pharmaceutical studies do the same thing and throw millions at studies designed to get the results they need. A natural common sense homeopathic cure that people say is "unscientific" more than often means nobody had to throw thousands of dollars to "prove" to people it's effective. You can't blindly take anything, even if it's "science" for face value. People do, and then science becomes like religious dogma. As long as there are people who want more money and power, they will uses whatever people believe in to manipulate them. Sadly that is the case with AMA, food industry and pharmaceuticals, which is why doctors are seeing non-alcoholic fatty liver in more and more people. We are being lied to and manipulated...but keep following your "science" in the name of "science". Don't ask questions if "science" says so...
Thank you so much for these videos. Also from my own “research” of talking to randos on Facebook unfortunately I think there is a scary high number of people who actually believe these inaccuracies about women, pregnancies, hormones etc… lack of medically accurate sex education classes in the US are definitely to blame for this. I will now go share this video in Facebook in hopes that someone who needs this information will find it, and also for those of us who do have a basic understanding of these things can enjoy a giggle or two.
My mom is a pretty smart woman who has had three children. When I went through infertility and IVF she got such an education every time I talked to her about it. She had just never been taught how things work. Sex education just isn’t great and it was worse when she was in school.
I think a major difference between now&then is that women/afabs actually talk to eachother about this stuff + actual professionals like Mama Doctor Jones working to fill in the gaps …I didn’t even know what my own parts were called until I overheard a random conversation in a public high school (which was still incorrect anatomy lol) ‘cause my “sex ed” was Abstinence ONLY!! fear mongering to “prevent pregnancy and stds” + spreading misinformation that condoms didn’t work ever-not that they could break, but flatout never worked anyway. (Oh…and in one case? “Kissing is oral sex.” Yeahhhhh… it’s just. Not good. Maybe it’s gotten better in the last decade or so. IF the state + parents + school board are all relatively progressive…but there’s too many horror stories about these boards wanting to make sex ed even WORSE than what I got.)

I went to see mommas Chiro in hunting ton beach ca. and actually was able to walk out and drive home. Amazing. I wish more women knew about this. Hip pain is so terrible during labor.
@@engineergirl6869 I’ve been to a chiropractor for all four of my babies and it’s helpful! Those who knock it just must not visit actual prenatal certified ones. Anything deemed “alternative” is frowned upon by most in the medical field unfortunately. Including the red raspberry tea….

The copper IUD can affect how much you bleed and cause spotting in between, but it’s just not doing it *hormonally*. There’s an inflammatory reaction to the copper that can alter your period. If your period is too heavy or has severe cramps, consider talking to your GYN.
I love your videos. Growing up, my mom and I had the "period talk." We never really had the "sex talk." I had to watch some sex education videos in school but still didn't know much about it. I didn't even know what contraception was until I met with my OBYN. Now, when I talk to people, I can cite information that I've learned from your videos. There's still a lot I don't know, and simply don't understand things at times. However, this is getting a lot better and is mostly because of your videos. Thank you for making sure future generations are educated about sex ed and are free and open to talk about sex.
Yes!! I had no clue that the egg only “hangs out” for 12-24 hrs. I thought it was released and stayed until the next period. I believed that an embarrassingly long time…well into adulthood 😬 Common misconception in encounter a lot is that the first two weeks of pregnancy aren’t even pregnancy and a menstruating peoples basically experience those first two weeks every month (egg then implants or is reabsorbed depending on if sperm was involved and successful). I kept telling my hubby (we just went through a two week wait) that pms symptoms are EXTREMELY similar to early pregnancy (sore boobs, had that in august so bad I took a test, cramps (implantation?), fatigue, mood swings, bloating, food cravings even!!) I don’t think he believes me because I actually am pregnant this time! Lol

There’s no end to it. I transcribed a woman’s binder into an electronic format and it was about healing horses using essential oils and chakras. The crazy exists everywhere
Sadly, it's not only linked to the uterus and the vagina, it's female bodies in general that are not understood by many. You should check out the "men writing women" videos here on TH-cam. It's basically male authors (and some female authors too) writing about women and female anatomy and getting it hilariously wrong. Someone wrote how the female lead in their book was so sad that her nipples retracted into her own body and that her breasts sagged even more than normal, out of pure despair (no, seriously!). It's both hilarious and sad how they think the female body works.
@@TheEmeraldLady My favorite will always be the one about a woman keeping a tiny purse, just big enough for a credit card, ID, and some cash in her vagina.
Ugh, I hear you about the test ordering - often I get normally menstruating patients coming to me saying "I want my hormones tested - just test everything...." Sigh.....
Who'd have thought that my love of dates might be why I had an easy time in labour (if we ignore the pre-eclampsia, baby turning breech at 39 weeks etc)
As a medical lab technologist, I'm a little surprised that you didn't mention a blood group & screen in the lab portion. Of course you'll know this as an Ob/Gyn but if anyone else is wondering, having a previous blood group & antibody screen on hand makes it much easier for the blood bank to issue units of blood if things go south during delivery. It's also important to know whether you've developed an antibody during your pregnancy against your baby. The more you know 🌈
In England, we are not allowed to have a blood test that tells us what our blood group is unless you're donating blood, you're pregnant, or you need an emergency blood transfusion. Edit: you can only find out if the baby is Rhd positive or negative, not the mother's blood type.
@@TheYNirvana - Sorry but that's nuts. Nono , don't tell Mr . Smith what his blood type is UNLESS ... reads list .... or his body will magically ... EXPLODD !!!
As a donor, I wonder if I needed a transfusion if I might end up with my own blood. What’s the likelihood lol. I’m up to 2+ gallons, I’m O+ (my mom was O-), and I’ve donated double red, plasma, and whole blood. I like donating everything except whole blood. I always feel so lethargic and sleepy and icky after whole blood.
Having to poop in the bookstore, lol, I've noticed this in any space like attics, storage rooms, anywhere like that with old things to pillage through. Always seems to have that affect. My wife and I laugh about this whenever we go anywhere like that because we both get "that feeling"!
I’m never having kids(husband had vasectomy) but I love watching your videos to learn more about my own body. It’s just sad to me that I’m almost 30 and there’s so much I was never taught. It shouldn’t be too taboo to talk about this.
@@erinsolomon7774 They're not THAT reversible. Vasectomy reversals often fail. The success rate of reversal is lower than you'd think. My dad had one after his divorce from his first wife. Then he met my mum. Reversal failed. I am donor conceived instead (which has been very traumatic for me but that's another story) so I have a different biological father.
@@Marzi29 I'm sorry you're going through some stuff with the trauma. But vasectomies have a pretty good rate of success, but they do go down the longer you wait after the vasectomy. Stay strong 💪 and keep your chin up. Hope things work out for you.
It's not really taboo, so much as people just hate learning boring nerdy topics like anatomy, geography or zoology, and they refuse to pick up a nonfiction book because it reminds them of school.
I was lazy and ate as I always do and had a baby in a 2 hour labour naturally with no drugs, while friends of mine who did everything right including maternity yoga had 36 hour labours. Sometimes it’s just genetics. My mum had me in 2 hours naturally too.
I did dates every day for three months, and drank the tea, and I was in labor for 3.5 days. Still did them both again the next pregnancy. I just grow big babies that don't want to come out. 🤷 (Possibly related: my chiropractor is the only reason I could move during my second pregnancy. I was already waddling when I hit second trimester and there was an immediate, visible difference in my mobility after my first visit.)
question for MDJ: US vs NZ: when you were practicing in the US, did you ever hold off on recommending a test/procedure because the patient couldn't afford it / insurance wouldn't approve/pay? Likewise has that changed in NZ where healthcare is more affordable?
I was watching this mostly to see how you'd react (it is a reaction video after all), and your reaction at the 9:33 mark made the entire video worth it. Don't worry, I also consider you worth watching for the more educational videos, even if I have the wrong equipment to make use of most of them and don't expect to have a girlfriend anytime this side of the grave.
As someone who’s had multiple miscarriages and done everything possible to make sure the pregnancy survives to hear someone “sell” a solution is just infuriating.
I think it's disturbing that they're kind of preying on people who have had or are fearful of having a miscarriage
Maybe they mixed up actual human women with Tolkien elves
Maybe we can control it ladies? My mother and I back then had a good open relationship about this subject and I asked her about her experience with the IUD since she had a copper one in the late 80's to early 90's. She told me that she experienced the toxic copper problem that was mentioned at the end of this video so I ended up not getting it and went for the hormonal method that has the least amount of side effects for me. Is it possible that the older original version of the copper IUD did have this issue but was fixed later on which is why the idea of copper poisoning from IUD still exists today?

Where does he think the poop goes? 13 year olds in Australia would have a better understanding of anatomy than that man.
How old were these guys?!

Hello fellow Medical Lab Scientist!!!

I agree. The amount of politicians who think like him is shocking.
The problem with a general knowledge test is who would be making the test? Those same ignorant af politicians.
Anyone with so little understanding of how the female reproductive track works should NOT be making ANY laws about that reproductive track!

“Nah, they just toss them over my shoulder and stuff them back in.”
Bladder, too.
So sorry for your loss, RIP intestines.
The irony of this is that my mother has Crohn's and has been under the knife so many times she literally has about 3 feet (about 1 meter) of intestines remaining. Too bad that didn't happen until after all her kids had long been born, eh? Lol
Not gonna lie, that would have been the first place my brain went too 😅
My first birth was 29 hours.
I was active til 39 weeks walking my xl dog etc. I didn't do the others.. 4 hour labour

Almost got a whiplash when I heard "Wilson's Disease" in a video about reproductive health. 😂 I had to teach my own OB/GYN about the disease (she did her own research before the next appointment, though), and the fact that you are aware of it even though your country is less affected by this desease than mine, is heartwarming in a strange way. :) Also, I never even realized that copper IUD could be a problem, and now I feel dumb. 😅

I think it's so sad that this person has that kind of power that all we can do is laugh.
Thanks for the AFAB shout out! I'm a trans man that has given birth twice, and we get left out of the conversation most of the time. I usually don't mind too much because women are the vast majority, but medicine and law should be trying to use inclusive language.
Also, screw that guy for working to legislate the healthcare of others.
Thank you, I agree they did a great job with this one!
I watch with my daughters. My teen also watches on her own.
@@tinkeramma I wish more parents had the same involvement with their children as you did. Yes, I taught health classes (and in other years science).

It’s most likely ignorance
This is why you leave religion out of sex ed
When you think you already know that answer then why would you look for an answer? I think that explains a lot of it. Then, some people just will not ever take on new information and they keep passing on the false information.
there ain't no excuse. they just stupid

I would get banned for saying what they told me women are "made for"
Other than that it was literally just a generic A&P class, girls got all the scare tactics
A DOCTOR!!! My first time with a woman, I went straight to the clitoris when it was time -- no mistakes, because I used to read men's magazines that were more open(no pun intended) in their photographic representations of the vagina(they didn't call it that, for some reason)
Yup, some people are boneheaded, INDEED!

Wow. Your child is very smart. Whatever your showing your child on TH-cam or another website, I want to show it to my future child.
Yeah that’s such a good point it would be!! That’s crazy!
Yes! I recently had a hefty bout of blood tests for an autoimmune diagnostic. "Only" twelve vials for that draw. Before the insurance adjustment it cost $9,000. Along with all the other reasons, can't imagine the cost of doing what that tiktok suggested.
In the US it would also be ridiculously expensive.
My mum had cancer more than once - not once had she had that much blood tests done.
Same
I'd personally advice people to get tested/more informed on GBS as well, especially if you're home birthing or when it's the first child.
I believe this is a standard test in the US for obstetrics care, typically around the 8th month of pregnancy.
@@tinkeramma it's not a common test in the UK though. I found out I had GBS infection by pure accident after going to a gynaecologist appointment after having some health problems. Thankfully though, I tested negative when I was pregnant a year or so later
Yes, I had this and they just added antibiotics into my iv during labor....super easy to take care of!
My bad copper IUD experience was finding it between the bedroom floorboards a few months after a surprise pregnancy lol
Hun-bots all tend to sound the same after a while.
@@telpewen Thank you! Uptalk is very common in women of all levels of intelligence, and is often used as an excuse to not treat women with respect. There are legitimate indicators of that TikTok being scammy, but this isn't one of them.
I can’t handle up talk. Ugh irritating to the max? Lol
Or canadian. In some parts in canada it's a common 'accent'. As long as you're still talking, you end in a rise, then when it's time for the other person to talk, you in in a fall.
The bookstore thing! Oh my gosh! I thought it was just me 😅
Also, thank you for mentioning the labs and rationale behind them.
Your lab techs will thank you too!

Cheers,
I remember I went to a clinic to an obgyn to basically check why my periods were irregular, and they gave me a list of labs i had to do which basically consisted of the majority of the things that were listed on that tiktok
and i guess i see that some of those were useful (cause eventually i was diagnosed with pcos based on this data (testosterone levels specifically) and ultrasound) but some of it was totally unnecessary imo...
Yikes, you'd think they would start with the top 10 most likely, and only expand the search if that doesn't turn up the problem?
Just a testament to your content: My partner and I have made the decision to remain childfree because neither of us deals well with stress and I'm in treatment for multiple psychiatric conditions, at least one of which has some evidence of being hereditary, but I still love to watch your content for the entertainment factor and information.
Am also child free and love channels like this to learn about what problems affect other women and uterus-owners. It always helps to be informed. 😊
It was like a 4 week long propaganda series on why all OBs are like part of big pharma and don't want the best for you, how horrible all medications are for you, how basically any medical intervention will cause nothing but problems for you and your baby and you'll need a c-section etc etc
Oh and by the way having a Doula attend your birth is basically the ONLY way you can have a safe hospital birth, you NEED one there to advocate for you and keep you and your baby safe, here's my card and my website 🙄🙄🙄
As a non pregnant woman I am very rational, logical and strongly trust science over any of that stuff, but pregnant I was a trainwreck.
@@humwishdom Science is just a way to collect information from any subject: With tests that can be repeated by anyone and get the same results, we can believe the results are correct. Adding and removing variables from the test to see if we get the same result, we can get information on what causes the result.
It's called Scientific Method. It can no way be called a religion, it's just a way we can try collect reliable information about our surroundings, while making the chance for human error as small as possible.
I think a major difference between now&then is that women/afabs actually talk to eachother about this stuff + actual professionals like Mama Doctor Jones working to fill in the gaps
…I didn’t even know what my own parts were called until I overheard a random conversation in a public high school (which was still incorrect anatomy lol) ‘cause my “sex ed” was Abstinence ONLY!! fear mongering to “prevent pregnancy and stds” + spreading misinformation that condoms didn’t work ever-not that they could break, but flatout never worked anyway. Thank you for debunking the copper IUD one. I have one and my cycle changed a lot after I got it, but I guess it's really just my cycle changing.
I believed that an embarrassingly long time…well into adulthood 😬
Common misconception in encounter a lot is that the first two weeks of pregnancy aren’t even pregnancy and a menstruating peoples basically experience those first two weeks every month (egg then implants or is reabsorbed depending on if sperm was involved and successful).
I kept telling my hubby (we just went through a two week wait) that pms symptoms are EXTREMELY similar to early pregnancy (sore boobs, had that in august so bad I took a test, cramps (implantation?), fatigue, mood swings, bloating, food cravings even!!) I don't know what they teach boys in Sex Ed, but it sure doesn't cover female-or anyone's-anatomy.
I had to know how to put a comdom on masterbate and clean the sheets after wards and consent is key.
