Sauces and spices are what have enabled me to stay on this woe for almost 7 months. I hit 100 lbs of weight lost this morning when I stepped on the scale. Starting weight was 284. At 184 as of today.

G'day from Melbourne Australia. It's roughly 2am here and it took me roughly 6 weeks on carnivore to actually feel hunger. It was an hour ago after I woke to bathroom. I was astounded how it felt. I made a fatty coffee with cream and salt, and promised myself some scrambled eggs later when I again felt hungry. In the past I would have reached for crackers or a low carb keto bar. I threw that all out and cleaned my pantry and fridge and overnight went carnivore omad (I was already used to one meal). You, Amanda have been my greatest motivator and inspiration as you are on the journey with me.

Hey Barb, also from Victoria 😊Well done! I have majority meat, dairy. only 2 weeks in. No difference yet on the scale but I feel good. Mother's day afternoon tea will be intermission. Haven't told any of the family I am doing this.Less fuss is best.

You nailed it. I give people the same advice. The tiny bit of wiggle that gets the meat down (especially in the beginning) is worth it. Eating meat is what’s important here. Every step towards carnivore is a step in the right direction. If you need diet pop, if you need sweetened LMNT or “sugar free” coffees, do it. If it means you’re eating meat meals, or even meat based keto meals and you keep going, you’re good. Trend forward, trend towards goals. You don’t have to achieve immediately.

Val Kyrie as soon as you said, diet soda and sugar, free coffee you helped me make up my mind. I’ve been debating on doing this diet because I’m not a big meat eater. I usually do the hCG diet. In fact I have some in my fridge but I am not looking forward to the withdraws. I’ve been having major issues with low sodium headaches and leg cramps, so I was scared to go through withdraws. My family is doing the carnivore diet and their withdraws were not as intense and with me having a hard time giving up a diet soda and sugar, free coffee, that is what’s held me back along with eating meat fat. So thank you for advice

I will never give up spices but I use "whole spices" not spice blends as those are full of crap. We like making a roast so we can quickly eat it during the week. Warm it up, eat. Simple. In that we put some sage, rosemary, a little rainbow pepper and of course, redmond salt. He likes to add a splash of balsamic vinegar - Ok, so we bought a pure one without a pile of other random ingredients added to it like literally everything in the grocery store. It works for us. I tried cutting out spices/herbs one at a time and I did not notice any improvement in how I feel. On my steak, I prefer just salt and butter anyway. I'm not eating a pack of oreos in one day anymore, I am not getting 4 treats with my weekend coffee at the local café anymore. I am not sneaking into my room to eat a hidden chocolate bar anymore. So I'll keep those spices, a tiny amount of balsamic vinegar and the occasional dash of no sugar hot sauce and not feel badly about it.

I’ve been carnivore a few times. Around 5 years ago we started carnivore for the first time, did it for around two years. Tried again recently and failed. Just started back up a month or so ago and doing great.
It wasn’t until this past month that I didn’t want spices or even onion and garlic. I completely stopped having a desire for them. It’s taken a very long time to get to that point. The only thing I like now is buffalo sauce (franks and butter) with chicken wings 😂 haven’t used spices in weeks.
One day you might want to stop using spices, but for a lot of people it seems to be an eventual thing. Don’t sweat the small stuff. It just kinda happened for us. Didn’t make an attempt or force it, just didn’t want it one day. Then another day. Then weeks.

Although I'd love to lose a good deal of weight, my main focus is healing from my autoimmune condition which has gotten incredibly worse over the last couple of years. I tend to lose focus if I don't see improvement "now" and then drift away from eating this way. Thank you for reminding me that this is a journey and I can't get to the end of it by skipping any of the steps between where I am now and where I need to be eventually.

It's wonderful that you give "permission" to not be 100% perfect, especially at the start but even on the entire journey. That seems like something that could be easily missed by individuals in general, and perfectionists in particular, which may make it easier to give up early on, stay off once they've had an off meal (day, week, month...), or not even start at all.

Its excellent for them and YOU, not that they need to be carnivore but eliminating the flours, sugars etc. Willpower is a difficult thing to constantly rely on specifically when we are feeling stressed or emotionally upset. We want to jump right into those carbs to feel better (even though it does the opposite!)

I have spices, artificial sweeteners (coffee), onions, and mushrooms to flavor the sauces I make for some of my meals. I have maybe 10 grams of them in a sauce and 1 cup of shrooms is something like 2.3 grams of carbs so my sauce likely has a gram of carbs in total.
We have a shelf in the pantry with all the things that other people eat and I have hung a towel in front of that shelf so I don't have to look at all the stuff on that shelf. At this point, it doesn't faze me, I don't crave those things anymore but in the past it was rough.
A trick you can do with dried mushrooms is to powderize them in a blender or spice grinder to use in a sauce and that will create a lot of flavor with using even less of them.

When I ate I ate high carbs and very little meat and especially ate hardly any fat because I was brain washed that makes you fat. Keeping things out of sight was what I did to quit smoking. I made my husband smoke outside, and he was not allowed to have his cigarettes, lighter or ashtray anywhere near me. I've been smoke free almost 15 years. I can totally see how this would work!

I have been on carnivore since February 7th. I can honestly say that I have not cheated once. I have gained 10 pounds and I'm not happy about that at all. I have not lost and inches in my waist. I have Ehlers-Danlos syndrome type 2 which has made this carnivore journey extremely difficult and frustrating! My anxiety that comes from being in pain, almost all the time, has gone down and I'm not in stomach pain every time I eat. Other than those two things, nothing else has changed! I eat more, I eat less, nothing changes. I eat more fat, I eat less fat, nothing changes. This has not been a very good journey for me. I'm not stopping this way of eating but it's been a nothing burger! I had such high hopes of something grand happening but gained 10 pounds, less anxiety and less stomach pain, not that grand. I wish I had something great to say about this way of eating but it comes back to the same thing, I eat because I have to.

Suggestion I have (if you already have not), take a week at a time a journal your food. I have done this a handful of times and am ALWAYS surprised at the end of the week the amount I have consumed or the small things that have slipped in. I know you said you have tried more and less , id be very interested to know the amount of energy you are consuming as well as the frequency at which you eat? Also do you have quite a bit to lose or just a tad?

    • @susang5445

Some people say your body composition changes- ratio of fat to muscle, with fat decreasing and muscle increasing. Muscle weighs 2x the amount of the same volume of fat. 1 cup of muscle is heavier than 1 cup of fat. There are scales which tell you the ratio via barefoot sensors. If you don't have 1, measure with a measuring tape. Waist, hips, thighs. Thighs inches might go up if you are able to do resistance exercise, as quadriceps often respond well to exercise. Waist might reduce with less carbs due to bloating going down. Feeling better though is worth it. Remember non scale victories 🌾❤👍

I do not have any advice but I wanted you to know I think your courageous to share your struggles & it is very generous because I am having struggles with binging & anxiety right now because of a family issue that is not my story to tell, but your example helped me say “I’m struggling “ Thank you

@@Linda-zv8ky Thank you🥰. Everyone wants to talk about how great this way of eating is but that is not the truth or reality! Maybe for a small few but that is not the many. All the people I know personally that are doing this way of eating are struggling about one thing or another. If we can get through the day, on the carnivore diet, without killing anyone, we are doing pretty grand!😆
