  • Chidinma Adetshina, representing Taraba State, has been crowned Miss Universe Nigeria 2024, triumphing over 24 other contestants to win the prestigious title. She claimed the crown at the grand finale of the beauty pageant, held on Saturday night at Eko Hotel and Suites.
The 23-year-old beauty queen, who recently made headlines for her withdrawal from the Miss South Africa pageant due to a controversy surrounding her Nigerian heritage, emerged as a fan favorite by receiving the highest number of votes throughout the competition. As the newly crowned Miss Universe Nigeria, Chidinma will represent the country at the Miss Universe 2024 pageant, which is set to take place later this year in Mexico.
She succeeds last year's winner, Mitchell Ikachukwu, and will continue to uphold the legacy of Nigerian beauty and excellence on the global stage.
Other notable winners of the night included Miss Anambra, who was named the first runner-up and awarded the title of Miss Supranational, and Miss Ondo, who finished as the second runner-up and was crowned Miss Lush. Special awards went to Miss Rivers and Miss Kwara, while Miss Oyo took home the Top Model award, Miss Imo won Best Costume, and Miss Abuja received the Best Talent award.
The top 10 finalists included representatives from Kwara, Edo, Taraba, Anambra, Ogun, Plateau, Lagos, Rivers, Ekiti, and Ondo, with the top five being Taraba, Rivers, Edo, Ondo, and Anambra. Chidinma's victory was secured by her high scores from the judges and her position among the top three in votes.
Chidinma's withdrawal from the Miss South Africa pageant came just a day after the South African Home Affairs ministry accused her mother of fraud and identity theft. In a statement posted on Instagram, Adetshina wrote, "After much careful consideration, I have made the difficult decision to withdraw myself from the competition for the safety and well-being of my family and I."
A law student, Adetshina faced severe xenophobic attacks on social media after being named a finalist in July, with many, including cabinet ministers, questioning her qualifications due to her Nigerian descent.
