James Fanshawe: Derby dreams with Ambiente Friendly and 35 years in the training ranks

We've finally managed to get trainer James Fanshawe on the Luck On Sunday sofa!
He has won Classics in several decades in the training ranks from Newmarket - as well as the Champion Hurdle - and he now has a Betfred Derby contender in Ambiente Friendly, who ran out a commanding winner of the Lingfield Derby Trial earlier this month after a good start for the stable to the new campaign.
Here, Fanshawe talks more about Ambiente Friendly and the journey for the Gleneagles colt so far and looks ahead to Epsom, while we're also afforded plenty of recollections and memories from so many successful years in the training ranks, including seven years as an assistant to Sir Michael Stoute and another when based with Josh Gifford when Aldaniti famously won the Grand National under Bob Champion. Fanshawe explains why he believes that was the greatest training performance he has ever seen.

I won a lot on Hors La Roi at 33 to 1 and Society Rock , extremely consistent sprinter , fine trainer , respect and good luck in the Derby .

Watched the trial he traveled supremely well put it to bed in the straight and quickened again inside last furlong while jockey was looking back over his shoulder only the very good ones are capable of quickening twice in a race run at Derby pace he wins for me😊

I think James Fanshawe knows that he has every chance of lifting the greatest prize in horse racing with Ambiente Friendly. There is no outstanding horse in the Derby this year after City of Troy bombed in the Two thousand Guineas, so the Lingfield Derby Trial winner must be there or thereabouts.
