I’m currently in high school and we have a program for future teachers. I’m actually going to a pumpkin patch this week with the second graders and I’m so excited.
Kudos for the Video! Forgive me for butting in, I would appreciate your opinion. Have you ever tried - Schallingora Font Storage Scheme (Sure I saw it on Google)? It is a good exclusive guide for finding teaching jobs online without the normal expense. Ive heard some unbelievable things about it and my friend Sam got great success with it.
I went back to school at 38 and started teaching at age 42! Hardest job I ever ever had (I’ve had many). But so rewarding. I feel like I can truly touch lives and make a difference in the world. Now in my 15th year!
Im 34 and still insecure about is it for me or not?🤕
This makes me feel good I’m almost 30 and thinking about it
I am a career changer. I was an engineer before I became a high school engineering teacher. Lol. I was fortunate to get my MAT and teaching license paid for by a fellowship. I will say this, teaching is tough but a rewarding job! This is my 2nd year teaching and it is better than my 1st. Hopefully, after year 3, I will be able to decide if I want to stick with is as a career! Teachers do God’s work and are under appreciated!
I'm in my last year, followed by one semester of student teaching. You inspired me a few years ago to become a teacher and this makes me so happy to see a few years down the road of being on this journey!
I'm in my freshman year of Childhood Education and I can't wait until I get to actually work with kids.
I mastered in early childhood too.
I remember when I was getting ready for my first teacher interview and I was binge-watching teacher interview videos and came across yours! I didn't get the job the first time but I did the second time and now 5 months later, I'm loving my life, teaching the coolest class of kiddos EVER!!
Just started watching your channel. I'm currently a junior, Early Ed (PreK-Grade 4) major with a double minor in Spanish Culture and African American Studies. I'm actually using your channel for a project I love it. Keep it up!!!
It is so cool living at a time when this type of sharing is available for free for kids interested in becoming an educator. It wasn't when I was taking my elem ed classes or interning or doing interviews. Your presentations are always so genuine and easy to watch. Thank you. I didn't actually student teach, but subbed for a year and a half (long-term 4th, then 5th, then RSP), and then got hired as an intern (with pay and sole responsibilities). Teaching is a very rewarding (and challenging) job.
I'm starting student teaching in spring and I am so excited! Thank you for sharing your experience, it's very helpful.
I’m in my last year I graduate with degree in elementary and special education in May!! Thank you for giving so much valuable information!!
I love your videos. I also love seeing professionals who have the level of passion for their craft as you do. It's people like you that really move professions forward by leaps and bounds!
Thank you for always inspiring me! Watching your videos gives me such peace of mind and I’ve taken so many pointers and tips from you to apply into my classroom. I hope all is going well with you and Billy! It’s so great to see you happy 😀💜
I spotted "fish in a tree" in the back!! A great book!!!!
I want to be a teacher and this vid was like a guide to what I will have to do. Thank you Michelle :)
It is definitely explaining without explaining requirements to become a teacher if that makes any sense
Yeah, totally!
I will graduate in May with an Elementary Education degree and will be doing part of student teaching in Kindergarten and part of it in either 4th or 5th grade. I’m stressed about finishing up and finding a job, but I am so excited to have a classroom of my own! Love this video! 💜
I just graduated in may with my Bachelors in Early Childhood Education last may ! I love your videos!
Thanks for the video. I love being around middle school teens. I know i always wanted to be a teacher at a young age. I'm doing Language Arts.💕💕💕
Loving Middle School too! I teach French.
I’m an Early Childhood/Elementary Ed major in college in Alabama. At my college, we do practicums for 3 semesters and then our last semester in the program, we do the internship. Each practicum, we change from a suburban to a rural to an urban school so we’ll be “well-rounded”.
I'm a parent, I don't think I have the patience to teach but it's funny as a parent of a 5th grader EVERY year so far of his life I think to myself "this has to be the best year so far," seeing a fifth grader I can imagine fifth grade would be what I'd want to teach if I ever were to teach. Kids are so cool at this age. Old enough to be responsible and there's so many moments now where I see how good of a person my son is becoming, so cute! I feel like this is the proudest of him I've ever felt.
My niece Callie is 8 and she wants to also be a teacher. Every year for her birthday the only thing she wants is to be able to go to the teacher store and buy supplies. We all get her teacher supplies. She has a area in their playroom that is her classroom. She has all of her supplies organized. Her dream is to be a teacher.
I loved this video! Thank you for sharing on your personal teacher experience. I’m currently in HS, but I did know at a super young age that being a teacher, was my passion. Choosing the subject is kind of confusing, but English or FCSI is a go to for me!!
When you went in person to the schools, how did you do it? Did you ask to talk to the principal, give your folder to the secretary etc? I feel like my area is very flooded with applicants and really want to find a position for next school year!
Nicole Echelberger apply everywhere. Most applications are online
Nicole Echelberger The principal usually isn’t available to see as a walk-in. You can leave your resume. I put mine in a folder ( use a bright or noticeable color) which had my contact info on a label inside as well as the resume. I also mailed a resume and cover letter addressed to the principal of the schools you are interested in. Attend job fairs, sign up on the school district websites, and network. You would be surprised how word of mouth will get your foot in the door. Hiring starts around March because they try to fill positions before summer break.
Hi Michelle! I’m Sarah and I’m a freshman in college majoring in Elementary Education! I love watching your videos they are so helpful! I definitely agree that getting experience in the classroom or just getting experience within any major as soon as you can, is really helpful and allows you to actually experience a full day in the career you are going into. I actually go to community college currently and I’m taking Intro to Education. There is a 20 hour field experience requirement and my school offers this really cool program called Project Care where you get placed in a local school and you get the opportunity to volunteer and work one on one with students!! I absolutely love it. This semester I’m working with 3rd grade students during their reading block and 4th grade students during their writing block. I can’t wait to be a teacher! 😊 thank you for posting these amazing videos. I aspire to be a teacher like you! ❤️
This is soo helpful I have always wanted to be a teacher but never knew how!
Go gulls! I graduated in ‘09 with a degree in Journalism/Public Relations, then went to grad school at Loyola to get my Masters in Teaching ☺️
I love the book ‘fish in a tree’!! (Book in your background!). Love your channel!! You are so inspiring!
First comment. I love your videos. I am currently on my student teaching.
I’m excited for however you do your classroom tour
Andrew Moldey cat she can’t do it as her district won’t let her vlog in her classroom anymore
I just discovered your videos and i as a future preschool teacher, your videos are an inspiration. I will keep watching your videos!
I am in college to be an elementary teacher while working in a pre-k! Thanks for all the advice!
Meteorology was the only thing that tempted me away from education. I told myself I'd still get to do weather, just as I teach it in Elementary School. I did flirt with Secondary Education, but I look young for my age and I don't like high school drama. Plus I feel like elementary-age kids get all the fun/cutesy projects.
Currently doing my first semester with observations - 14 preschool and 46 lower elementary (K-2) hours are required. Next semester we'll observe higher elementary (3-5), and the third one will be at a middle school (6-8). Last semester is all about student teaching.
We have assignments we have to complete during our observation hours, and get reviews by the teachers we follow about our conduct and skills.
I'm loving the program I'm in here in Montana (UMT).
Neat that you have a math minor. I have a colleague with math licensure and kids rave about the mathy parts of her science courses - I suspect your students benefit greatly too.
Also… nice book stack!
You are such an inspiring person to me! ❤️
I'm a high school teacher, and in my opinion it is way better than elementary school, the kids are more indapendant, the content is more quick and fun, and there is barley any crying, I think dealing with disrespect and actual physical fights, is way better than crying and immature kids
I would love it if you would share reading ideas, information on if you are doing math stations again, and an update on flexible seating.
appreciate this video sm. i'm majoring in education, and i'm considering double majoring and also graduating early.
I was in 4th grade when I knew I wanted to be a teacher, and I want to be a fourth grade teacher!
This works so perfectly since I’m in Maryland! I’m on the pathway right now or becoming a teacher, I’m currently in high school.
not even going to be a teacher when i'm older, but i love these videos! how is your school year so far?
Thank you for sharing so many tips! I am a new sub teacher. Could you also do a video about what is a teacher’s expectation to a sub teacher? When I go to a class, I always try to keep work organized and neat with as detailed as possible notes. However, I also would like to know what can I do better.
I am also having hard time to get connected to teachers, because everyone in school looks so busy. I don’t know when is the best time to chat and how to start a conversation.
Could you help me with that too?
Many thanks!
I love your videos so much and I'm not even a teacher! Keep making amazing videos!!
Is there a way you can show us how you do your PowerPoints or Google slides? How long does it typically take you to make one for a lesson? I am currently in my first year teaching elementary music. It has been a rollercoaster as you well know lol. I don't have a smartboard which kinda sucks, but I'm thinking about using my projector screen to do the same thing. Hope this school year is going awesome for you and keep filming!! You have helped me on my hard days and inspired me to keep moving. Thank you for what you do for students and the teaching community! Keep it up Michelle!! 🤜💥🤛
Same! I have wanted to be a teacher since I was 10 years old! I played schools with my neighbour and made my siblings have workbooks. (!) I made them do homework 😂 It was really interesting to hear your answers to the questions :) 🌸🌸🌸
Currently a freshman in college and I’m just so excited lollll

Michelle ,
You are a living example of what can happen when you are willing to endure things to end up living your dreams in reality .
Thank you for sharing your teaching journey story .

oh my gosh I've known I want to be a teacher since I was in second grade too!!!!!! I've never wavered since my mom is a teacher and I've been exposed to teaching my whole life!!
I came here because I am a new teacher and I feel so unmotivated and overwhelmed...
Shay 101: I know this probably won't help, but I am right there with you... it is my first year and I already think I am done after this year
Brenna Lill I swear it's like you're reading my mind :( I genuinely hope I change my mind later.
Shay 101,
I am sending you all the positive vibes I can!! I know they say that the first year is the hardest, but... at only 1/4 the way done, I am personally tapped. There are too many expectations of a first year teacher now. As we are "young" we are supposed to be super tech savvy (I, for one, am not). We also are expected to be these genius innovators and curriculum makers (yes, I know the math, but I have never taught it before!!) and there is so much more... sleep is now a foreign word to me. I just don't want to wake up every single day questioning my choices... I hope things are better on your end. :')
I am in my second year of teaching and it can be tough. I felt that way through my first year and I am at a new school where everything is being established still. I realized that personally the school I am at is not the place for me and I’m hoping a change will give me my motivation back. Keep going and stay positive. Also give yourself a break. It’s your first year and new to you. Everything is new. You have to give yourself room to grow and forgive yourself for any mistakes and learning. I hope this helps in someway.
Shay 101, try to focus on what went well during the day. That is the advice that my third grade teacher gave to me in my first year 27 years ago. Do not be afraid to ask questions and look to veteran teachers when you need support. Best of luck to you.
Love this video because it's great listening to all the different answers. 😊 I need to do this tag. :)
It sounds like your college did the same as mine. The set up of getting you into the classroom as soon as possible. I went to school in West Virginia.
Can you talk a little bit about positive reinforcements you do for your kids? Also, how do you deal with behaviors that students exhibit when they are in special classes like technology or gym (your prep periods)?
i love this because im a sophomore in college majoring in elementary education. im jealous that you were able to get into classrooms your first year! i wont be able to until next semester or even next year. i still have to take stupid gen eds with like one or two education classes >,< i am getting my certification in reading but i think i want to change to special education certification. hopefully theres more jobs for that? haha
I see fish in a tree
Which I'm reading in my class
I'm a student and I love this channel
I'm getting ready to start a combined major in Early Childhood Education combined with Early Childhood Special Education
I love your videos!!♥️♥️🌸🌸🌸
I saw the book fish in a tree I I'm reading that book right now 😁😆😂
Imagine being nine , dong home work then gong to your friends to play JUST TO DO MORE HOMEWORK 😂😂❤️ only Michelle could get away with that 😂💕
Who else loves her background
How is your year going? I know you can’t vlog but I’m just curious!
Thanks for sharing your experience. Great videos!!!
I wish this is how it worked in Toronto! Our process is quite extensive and you must supply before you get a long term sub and then years before permanent :( Your interview questions are great help though thank you!
I’m surprised you were able to do self contained! If I want to do that I need to have a special education certification.
Michelle, I am like you I want to work with older elementary when I grow up. I DEFINITELY dont want to work with small small kids and I am not super into wanting to be a older kids teacher.
I’m not teacher but have a friend who is a teacher. Maybe you could do a video about how non teachers can help teachers
I’m that one 6th grader that wants to be a teacher 😂 4th grade seems like so much fun!
Hi, so I saw your video about leaving the substitute a binder of all the things to do and was just wondering how did you create the paper formatting and made the paper look so nice?
Hi, you're vlogs are AMAZING
Hi Mrs.Ferre you miss me?? 6th grade is sooo boring can you come teach here?
I’m currently going to Salisbury
Have you ever had a type one diabetic in your class? And if you had how do you handle it?
You should read Fish In a Tree it is really good
I love this video ❤️ Thank you for sharing
I loved this video !
tyy, i was just about to ask you to make a video on thiss
How do you volunteer in a classroom? Would you just ask the front desk if any teachers wanted help?
I hope you are still a teacher in the near future
I live in Maryland too but in Bethesda so witch part to you live
I just got hired as a middle school special education teacher (mid-life career change). I start next week. I'm very excited and nervous. Any advice??
packing up my classroom, second grade teacher 1:43
Hey love it l! So inspirational
Can you please do a video on advice about the GACE exam
where do you film, micelle in your classroom?
Do you teach at Crofton elementary? If so, I went to Crofton in 4th grade.
Hey, I’m confused as to how to view the “How I Became a Teacher” playlist. When I click it, it says private. Maybe I’m doing something wrong...
I found the same thing.
They haven't published their videos yet
Megan creates the playlist and I think the videos are all going up at different times! You can check back later today 👍🏼
It's up now
Do u think associate degree worth it before bachelor's degree?
OMG I'm early ♥
Your amazing
i trust me i played school every day after school
If you pick to teach like higher grades in elementary school, could you still teach kindergarten?
Edit: by the way I love your videos!!
Can I become a substitute teacher if I just stated college to become an elementary teacher? In California:)
I have a questions for you, how do you deal with stressful situations.
Is it possible to switch from teaching middle school to elementary school and vise-versa?
Most of the time no. There two different licensures. If you want to teach elementary education you get a K-6 license and with middle school or high school you’re a secondary education major and you focus on one subject area
It depends on the state and school district. I moved from elementary to middle school and love it! I have a multiple subject credential.
Very nice
Your reasoning for how you became a teacher is literally identical to mine! I figured it out in 6th grade officially and I’m about to major in social sciences education
Have you had the chance to get in touch with your second grade teacher to let her know how she influenced and inspired you? Enjoy your week, Michelle.
John Lopez Yes, I have been in contact with him since!
@@PocketfulofPrimary I bet that he is mighty proud of you.
I want to become a high school biology teacher, any tips??
A J major in biology
Try to get a license in chemistry or physics in addition to bio. It helps you get a job.
I love you ❤️
I started to pretend to be a teacher
When I was in reception
I love ur vids
Love the video!
I’m majoring in Early childhood education and will be licensed to teach Pre-K through 3rd grade. I’m also considering getting my masters in early childhood special education later on.
First 😃
