4:48 Somewhat true. According to Jason Rubin, Sony themselves had no issue with Tawna, but moreso Universal. Coco was a decision all on Naughty Dog’s accord with no say from anybody. They made her just cause.

At least I'm glad that the two are allowed to coexist nowadays. Tawna had weird sporadic cameos and appearances before that point.

I kind of get the sense that if Crash Bandicoot 1 came out today as part of a new franchise, rather than as part of a remake, Tawna's design & existence would cause people to cry "Furry!" Seriously, there's no way Tawna wouldn't be called "Furry porn" by today's standards, and everyone would FOR SURE call the devs at Naughty Dog a bunch of Furries.
I guess the 90's were just a more innocent time. At least in that regard.

People weren't calling them that before? And what of the Nitro Squad? I'm sure people had those comments in mind, it's just the internet wasn't like what it is now.

    • @aomregcik
      @aomregcik 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

Tawna made Crash 1 have a proven-effective goal of reaching the damsel, it made the first game what it is, but they decided to write her out in the bible and that gave the series room to breath. I think ND themselves wanted it this way but I don't really know, it might not have been their intention. It's cool to see Tawna reappear recently and I wonder if and how the next Crash project might implement Tawna.

    • @aomregcik
      @aomregcik 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

Crash 1 is amazing and despite being extremely unique, the people behind the game must have known that the specific scenario the first game was using is an overplayed one and wanted to try doing something more powerful (narratively) next time around. That probably included ditching Tawna.
(unrelated: The way some of the holograms' dialogue cuts off in Cortex Strikes Back is really funny)

Imagine that early Coco design finding its way into Nitro Fueled.
That game is already loaded with Crash's well known (and obscure) parts of his past, so, I'd say the sky's the limit.

There's also a few other gameplay differences in the Japanese version of Crash 1:
    - Papu Papu has two extra health points
    - The Green Gem is now in Hog Wild instead of The Lost City
    - The Red Gem is now in The Lost City instead of Slippery Climb, making it possible to get Road to Nowhere's Gem on the first visit
    - Sunset Vista and Slippery Climb have swapped locations on the map
    - The High Road has had the last portion of the level removed
    - All bosses except for Papu Papu and Ripper Roo have different music, though the Brio and Cortex Bonus Rounds are unaffected
    - Tawna's Bonus Rounds also have different music
    - Tawna Bonus Rounds were added to Castle Machinery, Cortex Power, Slippery Climb and Temple Ruins. This also means these levels have more boxes.
    - Tawna Bonus Rounds were removed from Road to Nowhere and Sunset Vista
    - The Bonus Round in The Lost City saves your level progress up to The Lost City instead of Temple Ruins
    - Passwords are no longer shown during the game. However, the player can still use the Password screen by pressing Up, Up, Down, Down, Left, Right, Left, Right, Left, Right, O on the title screen.
    - Menus use both X and O to confirm instead of just X
    - The camera on the Map can be rotated with the L1 and R1 buttons instead of Square and O

Excessive prologue part ended in BS part. Moreover BS about difficulty. Many ppl call NA versions of any game hardest and uncensored ones. Why they call it like that?
As result this video have 0 worthness of watching. Wasting time. Literally no comparison happened and only once in video when it going about difference is BS about difficulty.
NA versions since cartridges been in general more censored and even more easienest. Censority happened everywhere in general. But what happened in a mind of those who said american game going to PAL and NTSC-J/Asia get easiest difficulty? How you get to that idea? Japan versions of both Japan original and American localised games are most hardest ones in general.
And all Crash games are not exception here. PAL versions are unique situation: changing FPS affect everything. So games sometimes get balance changes, especially for such timings related games as platformers. Sometimes got balanced.Crash series got that rebalance too. Whatever balance it get - new timings probably cannot be properly rebalanced. And Crash series still become exceptional games in PAL. It got INCREASED difficulty, with increased Hitpoints of enemies, les masks and lives tokens. There even partially shown on video that Papu Papu boss fight in Cb1 are get increased difficulty (yes in 1.0 US ver he have only 3 HP).
And ofc usual glitches/tricks fixes since PAL is basically 2.0 of US release.
New balance probably, but mostly for impossible to balance new timings lead to excluding of Developers Records Time Trilas from Crash3 Warped in PAL release. Although every possible but one. There is one become impossible to achieve. All else ones obviously much harder to achieve, but possible.
And now come to NTSC-J releases of Crash series. They based on PAL versions balance. Increased difficulty for no timing reasons.
So. How. Just how??? Someone get to decide most hardcore players - @sians - got easiest difficulty? Even trying to find CB series as exceptions to usual situation its still have 0 sense to state that american version harder one.
Ofc someone @mericans are just egocentrics. But there is many ROW players who also spread that BS american versions are most "true" ones. Whatever game originally come from.
21 century become century for such ppl who thing they prefers, they vision of world are Fact-True. Most ppl today live in own self-reality. Whatever n@tion and age or whatever else.

Same BS happened for every details in video ("japan female issues") which already discussed in comments here. Not sure how sense that one in first place, at one point hey its Japan, at other - Japan are not exception of gaming industry who force idea games are for kids only
(which lead to AO games like Cyberpunk77 and GTA get M17+ in USA without supervising of ratings as it do in Japan where it is not game companies themself who make that rating).

You know I may sound rude but Western players especially American just suck at gaming at general, there's like 1 in 20-30 people who are actually good at games.
