Your house could be on fire back then but you still had to use good etiquette and put on your slippers and robe before you ran out to save your life. Love it. lol.
The operator on the phone was none other than the lovable Bea Benaderet (Cousin Pearl from The Beverly Hillbillies and Kate Bradley from Petticoat Junction). She had several small roles on Jack's show. She was wonderful. Sadly, She passed away during the 6th season of Petticoat Junction. The show should have been canceled after her death but it went to finish season 6 and season 7 when CBS. Canceled all their rural shows. This act has been referred to as "The Rural Purge".
@9:10. In 1954, when this was filmed, the smog in LA was almost as bad as Pittsburgh's steel mill.pollution. it took until 1961 for California to mandate PCVs on all passenger cars. That kept things from getting even worse, but it took until the 1990s for the air to finally begin to clear. Now, the air's cleanee as it ever was any time in 20th century. Lesson: pollution controls wotk.
I love these old Jack Benny programs on TH-cam. There’s nothing to watch on television these days. It’s easy to see how much more effort was put into programming then today. Television entertained people back then.
I love these shows - but is Rochester an employee or a slave? What right has Benny asking a grown man what was he doing out at night? I know this is only a comedy and that is part of it - yet I can't help thinking that some bosses are truly like that - they think they have the right to know about a person's private life. I wish even in the show Rochester had said, "None of your business boss!"
One of the funniest ever. And yet no vulgarity. Just plain good humour. Regards to all Jack's fans. England, November, 2023.
The sleeping gag was great.

And Blanche Morton from Burns and Allen.
That is actually a good time to get up.
These are hilarious
It’s so comforting to laugh, isn’t it ? ⭐️

Thanx so much, Christine Callender, for sharing this little gem.
Keep 'em coming please.
Thanks for this I love Jack Benny.
This one of my favorite Jack Benny Show TV episodes. Evidently even back then, people were annoyed by unsolicited phone calls.

Agreed!!!!
You said it!
Agreed 💯!
There's a great episode where George and "Gracie" guest star- it is SO funny! 😄
My God, if Jack Benny was alive today to see what Los Angeles has turned into! 😒
You forgot “get off my lawn!”
I loved the radio version of this. It's great to see the TV version with added sight gags.
I like this a lot.
Benny was the perfect foil for Nelson's wit!
Jack Benny show could get pretty surreal at times (seees all the way to Paris when LA smog clears up/pretty extreme visual comedy-satire).
I used to watch these when l was a kid. Enjoying them again. They are better than some of the stuff on now!
Voice of Betty from The Flintstones as phone operator.
Why did Mary live in a different house?
Frank Nelson!!!!
Thanks for posting! One thing that I'm interested in, though, is the date that these shows aired.

He’s his butler ,but acts more like a close personal friend as a butler
