1:46 It is such a delight to see a well made sailboat just... take off in the wind, just like that.

Nice video. How many more degrees upwind do you think you can get with a dagger/centerboard compared to the pixie/quattro hulls? Is it substantial or just a small difference? Thanks!

Thank you for watching. Well, as you can see it sails well in flat water and light winds. Better than I expected. In waves then yes a skeg on the hulls will help. I have drawn a main hull daggerboard and centreboard versions for those who want to fit them. The board is offset so doesn't really interfere with the space in the hull and can be retrofitted if you wish

would love to see it out on the ocean

yes so would I! But of course I can only upload videos that owners send
me. There are several Strike 16's that do sail on the sea. In the UK,
Peru and USA for sure. I have also sold some in Australia so I guess
some sail on the sea there as well

What's the point of building a boat with back support if you sit up on the gunwale where you don't get any back support? Are there any videos of people sailing these little trimarans while sitting on the seat?

      Thank you for watching.
Where you sit to steer is a matter of personal preference. If you look at the videos of me sailing our Strike 18 you will see I always sail from the trampolines as I find that gives me the best feel for the boat. However, as you can see here, for example, when Jetti sails the same boat she does so from the cockpit.
      th-cam.com/video/a7ArEJGNGGY/w-d-xo.html
and this one with three men in the cockpit
      th-cam.com/video/bN0hz_gElxU/w-d-xo.html
As I say, unlike many similar trimarans, you have a choice. And also the cockpit is big enough to take the whole family sitting in the cockpit rather than either not having space or requiring everyone to be on the tramps. Of course I can only post videos that I have, no doubt many people do indeed sail only from the cockpit, as I know people have said they like the Strike designs because they offer so much protection and are dry to sail.
I hope that answers your questions, if you have more please email me.

Do you have a centerboard or dagger boards or leeboards?

    • @WoodsDesigns
      @WoodsDesigns  9 ปีที่แล้ว

+TheSilentgrayfellow Thank you for your comment and for watching the video. A daggerboard is an option in the main hull, but this boat just relied on the deep V Pixie hulls for leeway prevention

use Hobie cat outriggers, their asymetrical design give lift in the upwind direction, that's their genius, no dagger boards necessary !!!!
